I'm still surprised we are favorites for the title with tab but what are your thoughts on who will be the dominant force in 2012.
It's hard to go past Melbourne as always and I see manly really fighting to prove DES wasn't the reason they are so good.
So for me once again it's manly and Melbourne in 2012 with the tigers making a late charge.
What are your thoughts? As we know with the McIntyre system anyone can win the comp, I'm asking who is going to be the team to beat through the regular season?
(glad to say can't see stmerge being a threat this year)

I agree with you Melbourne will be the biggest threat

The only other team we need to worry about is ourselves As we have seen in the past , we can be our own biggest nightmare

I'd agree with all that BT… I in no way think the Tigers should be favourites considering we have no recognised Halfback and such young Frontrowers (Galloway Excl.). I'll be happy at being 3 from 6 in the first weeks of the comp and I feel we have enough talent to come home once the season gets into the closing rounds.

Melbourne have been a bench mark for a while now and I believe they will still be there at the end of the year. I'm expecting Souths to be big improvers in discipline and become a way better defensive unit under Macguire. Something they have lacked throughout the past 3 years.

Bring on March!

Not being biased towards him but Adam Blair will be a huge loss for the storm, not just his playing ability but the influence and leadership on others!

I think the Cowboys and the Warriors will be big threats. Coaches speak about spines and the Cowboys will have a spine of 1.Bowen 6\. Thurston/Lui 7\. Lui/Thurston 9\. Tsegiaro (sorry bout the spelling). Add to this Matt Scott and Tariq Sims and I think they will be a threat along with the Warriors.

But watch out for those TIGERS!!!

Can't agree with that Happy, they over-acheived last year, and they will be weakened even more with the loss of Blair. Top 4 maybe, but can't see them winning it

GNR I have 4 names in the spine Slater ,Cronk ,Widdup and Smith and are coached by Bellamy

Trust me they will still be thereabouts come the last 2 weeks of the season

Cowboys will be tough, Storm will be tough, Knights will be tough and I think the Bulldogs and Manly will also be tough, along with the Warriors. I'll reserve judgement on Souths - they have talent, but injuries have hurt them in previous seasons and their halfback is relatively untested.

Parra and souffs are more often a threat than not to the WTs so whilst I agree that the Storms and Broncs of the comp are a threat, we have to beat the bogey teams just as importantly for a host of reasons like, the points from them to make the finals, beating them gives an indication of how positive WTs are going generally speaking, beating teams that often give us trouble should do heaps for the team's confidence.

The Wests Tigers will be our biggest threat.
How we handle the ball, how we play for field possession, how we react to a ridiculous call or penalty, how we respond to a try scored against us, how we respond when we score a try, how well we kick for goal and how we make decisions on the field in the run of play will all determine the success of our season.
The only thing stopping us from winning the competition is ourselves.

Apart from us I think the big movers from last year will be Cronulla and the Gold Coast having both recruited quite well. Canterbury will be better under Hasler. At this stage you would have to say Melbourne. Manly should suffer with the mass dramas in the off season, Brisbane will struggle without Locky and St George without Bennett. Melbourne are the only team that aren't really affected by offseason changes. Except for us pinching their best forward

Cows will leak way too many points straight through Thursty and Lui, you cant hide them both and especially on their own line .
Souths the big improvers with their huge pack, halves will still be a problem but fitness wont be .
Its a pretty even comp but if we stay fit we will give it a huge shake .

I think the Sharks will be our biggest worry, they will be under the radar, they have Carney who tends to carve us up plus Fefita will want to play well against us. We have also set some records against them so i feel they will give us a very hard time! I wont take round 1 too seriously as i predict we will get a bit of a touch up but will come back like we always do.
Go You Tigers!!!

I can see the knights up there, but I think it may be a few years until they get the big one. They have an excellent spine of Boyd, Mullen, Gidley and Buderus. As well as the likes of Uate out wider, and Snowden in the forwards. Theyve also recruited arguably the games best coach. The Warriors will be up there with their huge amount of 20's talent coming through, a good pack and great halves. Melbourne will again be probably the team to beat in terms of consistency over the past few seasons.

All of them are a threat. Any team can beat us, any week, if we're not on our game. As far as a consistent threat in the overall comp goes, it has to be Melbourne, once again. Bellamy's ability to turn average first graders into really good ones that can play as a cohesive team unit, week in, week out, is unparalleled - (Bennett has always had more 'stars' to work with in his teams than Bellamy has). I mean look at the way guys like Woolnough, Quinn, Champion, Norrie, Proctor and Manu have aimed up each week and they also still have their great 'spine' intact. All that said, I reckon we are actually Melbourne's bogey team :stuck_out_tongue:

Others I think will go well are Manly, Brisbane, Canterbury (ow! that hurts to type that), Newcastle and Penrith are my smokey tip to improve big time.

Flip and the Broncos again :unamused:

In terms of who to beat, like most I think Melbourne is the benchmark. Knights will be dangerous this year while Manly and NZ will feature in the final series again.

I don't think souffs or sharks will go the distance and make the 8 but Canberra is my roughie.

I love our chances this year.
Last year was the first time in my life i went into a season confident, this year Im more confident.

If Melbourne's big 3 stay fit they are the biggest danger, if they lose one they will struggle. This lot of juniors is the last lot they will bring thru their cheque book junior development.

I like Brisbane, despite losing Lockyer.
