To highlight how bad our roster and depth is, how many players in our current squad would make a new club.
The only Wests Tigers I would choose are Stefano and possibly AD.
That sound pretty dramatic but if you went through every position, there are better players out their.
In essence, apart from Stef, we do not have any marquee players.
Next year we get 2 in Kori and Papa, that will make 3 top players.
Practically every other club has us covered in this scenario.
The reason we are struggling atm is because of our poor roster imo.

None of our players would be picked in your scenario. It would basically be the Kangaroos with a couple of other internationals.

AD was a bench player at his previous club and Stef too only managed 11min of game time in the whole season.
How did we get to this?
I mean before Sheens returned to give us some kudos, the only players we could sign were not nrl regulars.

That's not in the spirit of the question, there are heaps of marque players at other clubs that arent kangaroos.
Stef made SOO train on squad so he could be one player that would fit into a top side. So that indicates a lack of marque players in our squad.
How many top players do the Storm, Roosters, Panthers, and Sharks have.

Thats right. Stef really is the only one atm.
He was progressing well until injured.
So where is our quota?
We may as well mute the tv during NRL shows and WT games because they'll keep bagging us until things change.
They keep saying, 'the noise will stop when the WT start winning'.
Well I'm afraid the noise is gunna continue. 😫

Other than Luciano and Kelma honestly feel Madden, Liddle (both for depth), Doueihi and Talau would definitely get offers elsewhere. Perhaps Garner, Hastings and Mikaele.
I'm sure Maumalo would be another potentially looked at. Then again the game's moving on/evolving and speedy wingers are more sought after.

Edit: probably should have read your post properly 😂
But yeah agree there's really not anyone who'd be considered marquee.

There's definately some players like those you mentioned that clubs would pick the eyes out of like Kelma and Lucy but still they would be benchies.
A mate of mine once said that no Wallaby would make the All Black side.
I told him that he was a bit arrogant, but when you think of their success and culture he's not far off the truth. Hooper for would make it, but the culture thing stands true.
Our team culture is $hit.
That's the main reason imo why we can't attract quality players.
You can pride yourselves on a hard work ethic, the extra effort plays.
An improved work ethic is what's needed now.

You said they could choose any player they want. JFH and Paulo, Papali’i at Raiders. Addin Fonua Blake. Stef is good but wouldn’t be picked.

We've lost some top players in recent years. They've been replaced with subpar and average guys. Struggled to attract big name signing or anyone significant when they come to market. Until we pickup couple marquee players and some workhorse experienced players we'll be where we're at for very long time.

Brooks, Liddle, Ofa, Simpkin, Mikaele, Garner, Laurie, Talau, Seyfarth, Leilua, Tuilagi would easily make the squads of other teams. There are probably others I have overlooked and I apologise. to those players. Our squad is not as bad as you and others are making it out to be.

While their performances have not always been ideal, the reason we are struggling is due to poor coaching. We've gone backwards over the last three and a bit years. No re-writing of history will get around that fact.

Tragic, you write with the tone of an angry school child. Hartigan was recruitment unless you know more. Some of the names you mentioned have recently joined WTs. I did write over three years. Love your work Tragic.

We have had marquee players in the likes Tedesco and Moses who played well but we still didn't get into the top 8.
What's the reason for that? Bad coaching? Not enough top players to support them? Team culture?
Probably a bit of everything. I lean on not enough.
I still maintain that only Stef would be viable to build another team.
IMO, in a top side you need at least 4 top forwads and 4 backs min. The rest to be above average and have a huge work ethic.
I believe that players who make it into NRL should not need coaching in the fundamentals of the game.
We still have players who lack in this area.
The min traits for players would be:
Fulback needs to be quick and good under pressure.
Wingers need to have lightning speed or fast steam rollers.
Centres need to be strong and elusive.
Halves need to be able to manage the game and have excellent kicking ability.
Forwards need to be tough and uncompromising.
Our team really don't tick all those boxes.
You can't coach too many players who don't have natural ability at this level and gel as a team. You must have a spread if marquee players right across the park.

Cobar it’s part of a longer term strategy built around a new team requiring a truck load of players. We run the team down over the last few years, making sure not to have star players we need to pay overs to retain. First off Bennet is looking for current maroons, then he’ll come looking for ex maroons. Other clubs have lost players and unbalanced their cap, while we remain safe and ready to pounce in 23/24.
Seriously, I think the spreading of top tier talent and the cost of saving them benefits us more than any other club.
