Why are we premiership favourites?

I hate the hype about us being premiership favourites. We are a good side, but have done nothing to deserve any of those accolades. Im not even sure our side is that much better than it was last year. I guess we will find out later whether Blair makes a difference, but the losses of Dwyer, Fafita, Gibbs and maybe Lui make me think at best we are of the same standard, a team who came fifth.

There is also no way we have the best roster in the NRL. As a squad of 17, Manly for example have it over us in every area almost, and the ones we may nudge them out, is only marginal. Our back three (for the time being anyway) is close to the worst going around.

I agree. Going into rd 1 We have an unproven fullback,2 Good/ok wingers but not superstars, a 7 who hasn't spent a whole season there, No spark on the bench… And a cover player who will see 5 mins max
But can we win it and what we offer is it more then other teams... I'd say yes

To answer your question, it's the bookies who have installed the Tigers as favorites. Not the players, not the coach, not the fans, but the bookies. It means stuff all at the end of the day unless you like gambling and fancy a bet.

A lot of pundits have put us there, haven't they? I think part of it would have something to do with the amount of depth we have this year.

I think it is predominately on the basis of the Blair signing. I think he is considered one of the top players in the game. If you add a great player to a pretty good team that has looked like being able to win it all for the past 2 seasons I get it.

The problem is that I am not sold on Blair at all at the moment. He might be good but he hasn't shown it yet.

On the basis of today's game it's a bit ridiculous. During the off season, any time I've seen players from other teams asked who they think will win the comp, none of them have replied 'the tigers'. So whilst the bookies think we're favourites, opposition players don't

Some of the pressure should be off after today, hoping the bookies and others go looking somewhere else.

When I herd favorite tags I was like Wat the. We're do they come up with this jibber. It's not like we destroyed teams in the trials ways the thinking behind it ?

its a process… even if we finish 4th... we should still rightfully be considered up there as/with premiership favourites... bookies know our potential.. there is no way you'd offer the tigers at $15-1... because we could win it from 8th...

as for the roster.. we are up there with the best.... how many current and former internationals? marshall lawrence galloway farah blair ellis heighington tuqiri....

im suprised that people are suprised we are favourites (or up there around abouts)... especially if u r a tigers fan!

what hype? most league commentators have us up there in the top quartile (rightly so)… but arent neccesarily predicting us to win it... its the bookies that have us as odds on favourite.. they are smart businessmen... as i said in my other post, why would they offer us at high odds when they know we can win it from everywherE?

At this point I dont think we should be favourites. On first round form there were quite a few sides that deserve to be ahead of us. i was impressed by the Melbourne v Canberra game as well as Saints, Manly & NZ.

honestly I don't think we will now, I think Manly and Storm will be now after round 1 I would NOT be impressed with the dragons it was identical to our game, they dominated and should have won by 20 like us they let the knights hang around just like we let the sharks hang around

4 of the captains nominated us as the team to beat at the captains launch.

we have a very good side we will be right in the mix

I think they have the odds about right ($6) if we have this team run around for 6 years in a row, id like to think we would win at least 1 comp.

I have heard people saying if we dont make the grand final it is a bad season, given that we would go into a grand final at even money, if these odds are right we are roughly a 1 in chance of making the GF.

Some one has to be favourite and I think we are rightfully in the mix

Wests Tigers 6.00 $
Melbourne 7.00 $
Brisbane 9.00 $
Newcastle 9.00 $
Manly 10.00

We're favourites because there's more money going on us to win than the other teams. It's not magic.

After watching the Foundation Cup against the chooks, and this game agaisnt the Sharks, its obvious our defence is lacking (or even non existent).

I would say our attacking style cannot be rated (some weeks crazy good, other weeks appalling) but our defence is bad on a weekly basis.

Attacking wise, we are probably in the top 3 teams, but defensively, I would say we are in the bottom 3 (Cowboys have to be at the bottom - cos we offloaded Lui to them LOL)
