Why Sheens has shed his stars.

Have to question some of the responses on here. You can't constantly plead for some kind of explanation for what is going on with the transfers then doubt the veracity of said response when it comes. Let's give Sheens the benefit of the doubt and trust his word.
Would still love to hear of a signing or two for next season though.

Even with the players that have signed elsewhere leaving, if the Tigers can actually bring in Blair & say, Reddy/Cross or Vidot as has been rumoured, I can't see why 2012 is a "Write Off" year.

The fullback position, for me, is the one area that still has a lot of question marks- but potentially you could have Brown, Lote, Lawrence, Reddy or even Beau Ryan (if he doesn't leave) all with 1st grade experience in the mix for the position, along with the youngsters coming through. Getting the right player in the #1 is important though.

Have not seen anywhere other than here that Lui is leaving, so I'm assuming he'll be the #7 next season- probably with a view to Miller pushing him through the course of next season. I actually wonder if removing Moltzen might improve Lui's confidence & allow him to play more his own game.

The back row could potentially lose Heighington & even Dwyer, depending on the severity of his injury. But adding Blair, keeping Fulton & having Murdoch-Masilla & the Shirnack's still leaves the Tigers back row in good shape. If Heighington stays, having him at lock, Blair & Ellis is an outstanding (if costly) back row. But I'll be happy with Ellis at lock, Blair & Dwyer- that's a really good bunch of players there.

Prop is the position we'll really require the youth to step up- with only Galloway being a tried & tested option. Woods looks the most likely to fill the other starting role, and Groat & Begovich are no doubt lined up to compete & fill the bench roles. Again, there is no confirmation outside of this forum to indicate this player is leaving, so I'm going to assume that Moors is still in the running for a bench spot.

In the end, if the team looks vaguely like this-
1\. Lawrence
2\. Lote
3\. Reddy
4\. Ayshford
5\. Vidot
6\. Marshall
7\. Lui
13\. Ellis
12\. Dwyer
11\. Blair
10\. Galloway
9\. Farah
8\. Woods

I can't see how that isn't a competitive side. You still have Fulton, the Shirnack's, Groat, Begovich, Simona, Utai, and the other youngsters to add into the mix.

I think Blair will be played as a prop and you'll see Heino and BMM take up the other spot and the bench.

Good to get some news out of the club, hard to tell if its gospel or spin, or a combination of both. You cant expect team harmony when half have been shown the door or a least told their not in the big picture for 2012, but as Sheen's eluded to, its all about getting the right balance and looking to the future.

I think what is hard to understand is why half the players shown the door had recently signed contract extension, surely the club knew about all this talent they had to secure and what direction they wanted to go in 2012.

Anyway lets hope things do turn around and while Iam no a Sheens fan, I dont disagree with the direction he is headed for 2012 and beyond

Maybe they did not realize how much attention these NYC blokes were going to attract at the time SC .Form wise at the time they were going like busteds . And now they have seen what Grant Jones has got out of them (and every other team in the NRL ) They have had tp spend a lot more than they expected to at the time . It does make sense when you think about it Supercoach . Could be the truth that our NYC signings for the future have affected the salary cap for next year and beyond .

the coach has given us some insight as to what is going on.
the only thing that will be able to show us if these changes provides the result we desire, is time. :sign:
.
now move on to securing a spot in this year finals. 😛ray:

I hope the Fonz is Correct.

**And if they get it right and set the club up for the next 5-10 years** Bug will you cut him and Humprey's some slack ??

Would love to see that, but they better do something different this time because 25% semi finals rate is not ''gettin it right'' in my books.

This is part of the story, its convenient for the club though. Nice of the club to give this hack Rothfield the big scoop.

It's a classic fishing technique - berley the water so get the fish excited so it will take the bait without thinking. (Rothfield does tend to look like a tuna.)

I think some of you have to look back to the salary cap dramas we've had of late, especially in regards to our long term juniors like fulton and gibbs. I think the club was banking on having that chunk of their salaries being outside of the cap, but when it was ruled that flegg didn't count as being a junior to the club (which is rediculous) i think the club was suddenly left with certain players' values being higher under the cap than had been intended when their contracts were signed.

This would mean that instead of say fulton being on 200k in the cap and 50k outside suddenly he was 250k in the cap. Do this for a few more players and suddenly things become too tight. Suddenly the club didnt fel these players were worth as much as they were forced to be valued at in the cap and couldn't re-sign its more promising young players without freeing up some space.

But surely there's plenty of space to manouevre now!

I think our current batch of youngsters have much more potential than any other group of WT, Balmain or Wests juniors for about 20 years and we rightly need to secure them now. But which ones have been secured for how long??

This is all very positive Mr Sheens, but what about our terrible kicking lately, surely that shows lack of confidence amongst the players, although we have never been that spot on with the kicking game. I am still tossing up whether to attend the match against the Cowboys - I am afraid of coming away dissapointed. I am hoping though that we can still pull things together this season.

Anyway Bug I thought we had agreed to rename him from The Fonz to Vinnie Barbarino a while ago . Post match interviews would be so much more fun with him going "What ' Where' "Who" :roll

With respect, we haven't lost any Stars yet. Gibbs, Fafita and Moltzen are standard first grade players at this stage of their careers.

Our Stars are Benji, Robbie, Ellis, Galloway, Lawrence, Lote.

We are yet to lose a Star and potentially are signing another one in Blair.

Let's hope that the players coming through the 20's reach the potential they have.

Once again I live in hope that there is more substance than spin in this story. Time will tell.
If this is all spin however will it be too late by the time we find out? Probably.

One really good thing from the article though is the flat out statement "we'll make the semi-finals i'm very confident about that". Not often does sheens give definites. This is about as close as it gets.

IF this is all about signing the great young guys rather than managing a salary cap disaster and IF the players that stay can be hosed down from their high dudgeon then I think we will be in very good shape in the next few years.

Finally a statement of soughts always a good idea to tye up some young lower graders but in all honestly only a few will turn into regular 1st grades thats about the percentage you will get . At least there is a plan the players being cleared out not a real issue IMO even Hieno pretty ineffective these days, but there will be a few more signings one would think and hopefully a bit better calbire than whats been mention (Blair the exceptiom).Hopefully the club will announce some signings shortly as this will settle the place down. So no more hassles from me only if we don't make the 8 as this would be unaceptable.

So that he or Humphreys can then come out with something completely different in a week or so ?

He said players (u20s) have gone from $5,000 to $150,000 surely all this is going to do is make them think "well If I can get that much of a raise here what if I go to another club" ?

Even if they sign up to a 3 year contract, it doesn't mean that much as the club just gives them the flick to try and hold on to the younger talent. Just look at Gibbs, Fifita, Moltzen etc etc.

Would have been good to read and know this a few months ago before all the dramas and rumours began.

Good to see Dwyers name mentioned in there. Lets hope he can get back to bigger and better things next year.
