Why Sheens has shed his stars.

With respect, we haven't lost any Stars yet. Gibbs, Fafita and Moltzen are standard first grade players at this stage of their careers.

And yet Sheens stated that they are all going to be on better deals than they are Tigers, which would imply that other clubs can see they are worth the money ?

As Robbie Farah said,we should judge them at the end of the season. However, there would need to be a major turn around just to make the eight. I hope they can do it but I wont be putting any money on it. Not at this stage at least!

I'm not convinced there is trouble in the club you know. The team maybe just in a form slump so everyone summises all isn't well in the place. We thought the same last year when Souths thrashed us at the SCG but then the season turned around just as quickly as it appeared to be heading south. Don't give up yet WT fans ….... still a long way to go yet ....... there arent that many teams around us who are going much better.

I don't think that getting paid more money than their current contract implies that. The Sharks have lost Snowden and Douglas. Both on huge money at the Sharks. They where desperate for two props and had the money available. I think it is more a reflection on the Sharks that they need to pay 'overs' and do not have the junior players in their system.

These youngsters need to show that they are ready to make the step up.
Apparently, if all the rumours are confirmed,
then they are basically assured of a spot in the 17.

I don't want that,
if they know they are here forever, there will be no hunger or competition for spots.
Old fashioned, but competition makes you work at your best,
for e.g. Groat, Woods, BMM etc have bascially been guaranteed a spot,
it won't make them work harder, but will only get them to be lazy IMO

The club has no obligation to tell the fans what is really happening behind closed doors, but this article at least paints some of the picture, and those who follow the Tigers NYC team closely will know how much talent is brewing in that side. They currently have four 17 year olds running around who are handling it with ease and have an excellent balance in the forwards and backs.

We've been talking up Aaron Woods for the last couple of years and he's handling FG quite well. Simona also looked comfortable and some of the other players such as Groat, Tedesco, Sirro, Miller all have big wraps on them and would be targeted by other clubs. I think the club is doing the right thing by investing in these juniors as they should all kick on and have excellent FG careers.

We've been crying out for change for some time now. This method may appear harsh and reactionary in some respects, but I also feel the Tigers are making the right move in securing the talent they have produced and wish to keep.

I for one at least applaud that we have FINALLY been giving some inkling (however accurate it may be) as to the managements reasons behind the player exodus. In theory it sounds fine to me. Lets be honest, only Fifita (maybe) will be a rep player - even then i am doubtful - gibbs, moltzen, mckinnon, ryan et al are good first gragers at best - no superstars unlike potential the NYC kids - good call I think but geez it really coulda shoulda been handled much better.

"Some of these people can go from five grand to 150 grand straight away or we'd lose them to other clubs who have made massive offers knowing how good they are.

No player has gone from $5,000 to $150,000 ! The top player will go from $55,000 to $110,000.

The top 8 NYC players next year wouldn't be getting in total what Benji gets a year.

Iam afraid 2011 is gone, they will not get enough wins up between now and the end of the season. With so many players departing on not so good terms it will be impossible to turn things around. So its time to bite the bullet and give some of these young guys a crack and see what they are made even if its only the odd match so they can still play in the u20's final series

What a load of gibberish!!!

I'm willing to take Sheens' comments at face value, and I hope his assessment of the youngsters is at least half right. I'm glad someone has stood up and made a statement. Should have been done a month or two back.

I'll even concede he's axed the right players, as long as Heighington stays.

The only downside is I can no longer daydream about having Dugan in theside next year.

so if that's not true then is Sheens telling porkies again ?

Finally some sort of explanation.

Wish it had of came a month or so back but all the same it will help stop all the rumors and innuendo.

This explanation will suffice for me for the moment.

I can understand why the club was keeping quiet. All this does is put the spotlight onto our juniors and drive the price up even more! I just hope that their contracts are signed and sealed with this article coming out.

The salary cap for under 20's is $250,000 and they have 35-40 players … so the average NYC player would be on $5,000 - so that technically is what most NYC players would be getting paid.

The full time NRL squad eligible under 20's players Miller, BMM and Woods would be on $55,000 - $85,000 upgrade to $110,000 - $150,000\. - 2 or 3 years ago Yes they would have been like the others probably on only $5,000.
No player goes from $5,000 to $150,000 straight away as quoted in the article.
Unless Mr Sheens means straight away = 2-3 years.

Talk about damage control… And if sheens and co are offering that kinda money to 17 year olds then it really does show how poor this club is managed

because there are 25 men in the top squad. Your suggesting everyone in the top squad are guaranteed a spot in the team. Gibberish was putting it nicely.
