Why talau

Surely Matamua on the bench instead of Talau would be better for the future .Matamua can cover 13 second row and as someone said used to be a 6 in lower grades and I think he's part of our future whereas Talau is not

I think we all want Matamua to come good at 13. Pole is playing great but he is basically just and up and down prop. We would like some more attack.

One poster who I think is in the know stated that Matamua didn't look ready in the pre-season and that Bula was looking good.

Maybe we just need to give him time to develop. I'd rather play whoever we have right now than rush a kid who may just need some more time to develop his game and body.

Matumua isn't ready. Next year maybe. Needs to bulk up

Matamua needs game time at 13. I don't mind what the club are doing with him atm.

He's still only 19 and needs a year playing the one position. He's already taken big steps from last year where he struggled at NSW Cup level. If he can take the same steps forward this year there is no reason why he can't be starting lock in 2024.

I couldn't care less if we stuff Talau by playing him 15 minutes a week this year.

Depending on the stats site you look at Asu Kepoea in 24mins ran for more or just less metres than Talau in 56 mins and Asu looked like he wanted to be involved in the collisions. I am not sure what Tommy is doing out there coz he’s getting shown up by Star and the benchy, and it can’t continue.

I agree, not performing well. I’m also of the opinion that he’s talented, so we need to give him time. He’s done an ACL. One big game and a boost of confidence and we could have a weapon on our hands.

I’d still pick Naden first, but while he’s a good attacking player, his discipline lets the team down. So I’m not sure Naden is the solution either.

I always rated Toa and knew he’d come good. If he plays like he did last night regularly he’d be in origin talks.

Of course he needs time, he’s not even 20 years old! Give the poor kid some time.
Matamua might play this year, but I don’t think he will be a regular until next season.

Completely agree, the kid needs time.Far too often people expect consistent performances from young players which very few of them can do,time and experience will get some of them to the level we need and want.Give him time and have patience

Why Talau indeed. 6 missed tackles and 3 errors. Dropped the ball cold without any real pressure on him. Killed any attacking moves whenever he got the ball. He is slow and doesn't have fancy footwork to get him past a defender.
On top of the missed tackles, choking Tupou of ball and his errors, his defensive reads and ability to stick were (are) woeful.

His deficiencies are not a product of his injury history either. That's the major concern.

I'm disappointed to say that there have been fewer junior-star myths poorer than Tommy Talau.

Persisting with this type of player in the hope of development would be a giant mistake in my opinion.

Ron Massey Cup standard.

He jams in when not required and creates an overlap that otherwise wouldn’t exist. Does it all the time.

Last week it was wet so the ball is slow to the edges and the play is slower around the edges. That hid his deficiencies and he looked ok.

Last night, pretty dry, he looked horrible. Which will be normal on dry tracks.

I cannot believe that Naden was not rushed back in as soon as he was available . The best players in their respective positions are known at other clubs & are rush back as soon as available. It seems our Coaches simply do not know our best 13. The other issue of concern is was it Scott Fulton who signed Talau for Manly??

Also yesterday on the Klese Haas try, Brooks jammed in and he didn't tell Brooks what he was doing. So Brooks had no idea what to do once he made the mistake. Poor centre play that. You have to be telling your inside man what to do when he makes a mistake.
