Mbye as a 14 is terrific. It says a lot about the improved team and depth. Anybody who can’t appreciate that is kidding themselves,

Not a matter of not appreciating that - it's a matter of better options.

I really like Mbye, he has great utility value.

In truth the best both paryies could hope for is the no 14 ro cover for Hooker and injuries.

We need the other 3x spots for our forward rotations.

So in essence there is som positively here.

Ps. Thx Ivan, you're recruitment was terrible

For mine, I’d play Talau at 6 and move him to 14 for round 2. Just needs to get some miles up in the middle and some dummy half practice and he becomes our perfect super sub.

And AD plays where Round 2?

AD will walk straight into the 6 jersey and rightly so. Talau will either end up on the wing or State Cup. There is an argument Talau could be the utility as he can play wing/centre/6 and he's big enough to slot into the backrow at a pinch, but I think Mbye offers more utility value at this stage.

People let the hate cloud their judgement. How often did we get an injury and have players out of position last year? Happened almost every game. He's also a very good support player with real pace and could easily come into the middle of the field late and play a role.

4 forwards just isn't the way to go with these new rules and most utilities can cover more than one position, the two grand finalists both carried players on the bench who can cover multiple spots.

I don't hate Mbye at all. I think he has been much better than he is given credit for and some of the criticisms against him I just don't get.

I still feel that it's better to have 3 forwards and a 2nd hooker on the bench than 4 forwards or three forwards and a utility player. I just think over the course of the season we will get much better value out of that option.

Jake Simpkin is a better hooker than Mbye therefore to me he gets the spot.

I think Madge will go with Mbye at 14 and he is a really good utility player. I think he is good at hooker as well. It's a good option. I just think that Simpkin is a better option.

AD will be 6 Round 2. Mbye to be 14 to cover any backline injuries. There will be three forwards on the bench for rotation and cover for forward injuries.

What the rest said. Straight at 6. As Willow mentioned if Talau was decent in round one he would be my utility player.
Not too many sleeps yet to see which way Madge goes.

Start season likely Jake Simpkin misses out and Mmbye on bench. Doubt Liddle will play a whole season uninjured so Jake Simpkin will get a shot and Mmbye will keep the 14

I think so too Willow - I was asking the question of Needaname due to his post saying:

Latest post Jake Simpkin's insta is getting heaps of teammates commenting congratulations for his debut.

I believe they're talking about the fact he's showing his girlfriend off on Instagram - although Billy Walters said 'that'll be two debuts in one week'.

Moses’ hamstrings are becoming a serious issue.... if he’s not 97-100% fit we have to go with someone else
1 Laurie
6 Madden/ Talau
14 Simpkin
For mine at present

Let’s be honest. The only thing keeping him in the 17 is his price tag and name. There are better options in every role he offers. This team has passed him by. Not that he’s ever fit anyway.

How is that true?
At this stage both Laurie and Simpkins are unproven at first grade.
At present he has to be above both.

I've been saying that mybe deserves first crack at 1 and Laurie should earn the spot with amazing form.

But this interview slightly changes my mind. Mybe should be showing more fight to play top grade. He can still be a team player and do what's best for the team, but you need to put your case forward and show some confidence in your abilities

With the speed of the game this year 2 hookers of quality may be a tactical advantage likely to mean Liddle and Simpkin are in the17.

Laurie looks the best fullback and either Douihei or Madden partnering Brooks in the halves. Apart from injury I can’t see a spot for Mbye in the 17.

If Laurie is fit all season and lives up to the hype we are solid in the positions Mbye plays.

Centres: BJ, Jet, Talau
Hooker: Liddle, Simpkin
Halves: Brooks, Madeen, Douihei
Fullback: Laurie, Douihei

14 bench utility or reserve for Laurie is the only option. 900k a season for a reserve role is not going to last very long.

REynolds was getting paid more than Mbye and his name is twice as long, didnt keep him in first grade?

Hmmm...yet more of your predictable and boring Simpkin over Liddle comment (which I completely disagree with ....who'd have thought it??). You don't need to keep reminding us of your love for Simpkin. We get it. In fact, we probably got it about 38 posts ago.

thanks for responding though champ
Team Liddle for you got it

Don't agree much with 4life but I probably wouldn't have Mmbye in 17 as a 6 or a sub
