List grows as Tigers turn down Mason

January 14, 2010

Any move to the Tigers might be scuppered by Mason's poor relationship with Steve Folkes, who is an assistant at the club. Mason cited Folkes as the main reason he walked out on the Bulldogs mid-contract before the two had an ugly public falling out.

No Chance…

I think the roosters will have to pay some of his salary where ever he goes. If he plays for Newtown the roosters will still have to pay him his $450K pay packet (i think it's around that figure), so as much as $250K i think they are willing to pay. I think who ever gets him will have him for cheap for the 1st year but after that, depending on how he goes of course, he could take a bit of the cap!

Yeah…...so does that mean we may have some coin for someone else.........

I would have hated to see big Willie holding back one of our young guns. I just think it would have sent out a bad message to the whole playing roster. Anyway sanity prevails

Forget him going overseas. Let the git waste a large chunk of the rorters salary cap for the year playing for newtown.

Hey Dude….get real...Tigergran IS always right...The Guy is not West Tigers Material....Period!!!
Even if the White Rake played for us this year and helped us win a premeirship......the guy is a LOSER

Agreed. I was so thankful to read that we weren't interested. This guy is just a trouble spreading virus and needs to wake up…he isn't as good as he thinks he is. Wasn't he voted most over-rated player the past few years?
Good move Tigers! I hope these rumours are true.

Relief…..

Keep the Dollars for our youngsters and Players like Galloway who we have persisted with and finally coming good.

A Big Willie would've been fantastic to have IMO, but i think Little Willie will grow to be bigger and better this year anyway. His off-season international rep duties would have done plenty for his confidence. Expect BIG things from LITTLE Willie in 2010!! He will become one of the favourites for the girls out there.

I cannot believe everyone on here saying he is a 'loser', 'crap player', 'virus' among others. How many of you people have spent any time with Willie Mason or had a conversation with him to make this judgement. I would call most of the comments in this thread 'judging a book by its cover'. I love how everyone is an expert on players we should sign, probably why we are on here in the first place our judgements are not sound nor have we had any experience in selecting players. In essence we speak too much from EMOTION over logic and reseached evaluations.

I am not saying i would be desperate to sign Willie Mason, however i live by the motto that you give everyone a chance - who knows if we could have picked him up cheap, who is to say he couldn't prove to fit into our culture and may just be a good human being. Remember he would be the last player to join the group so the culture would have been set and he would have to gel with our club culture, not set it.

Who is it to say that it wasn't others at the Bulldogs who set the bad example and Willie followed? Remember that at the Roosters there were many Bulldogs at the club too and the Eastern Suburbs culture has always been the "party culture". Maybe our club would have been the right fit for him and brought out the best in him. We have an experienced coaching team unlike the Roosters that could have fostered his involvement and influence.

doesnt matter if we have spent time with him.. 99.9% of the fans wont and dont get to spend time with any players. the whole image is based on what we see in the news, papers, games and reputation… that is what counts. He is a VIRUS when you look at every aspect of the game.. Simple.. no iffs or buts
