Woods

I like him but how many penalties does he give away?

It's becoming a joke and needs to stop. It's at least two or three every week and they are killing us.

Woods was fine last night in that regard. That ridiculous leg holding penalty was all on Groat. If Woods was penalised it was one of those "what was that for? oh ref is bored" type penalties.

yeh woods only gave away a couple last night, and it's to be expected when a big part of his job is to slow the play the ball down.

I think he had, broadly speaking, an "alright" game.

Woods will get better when he adapts fully to the pace of the game .Saints were too fast for our back pedalling forwards
like somebody else said ,he is still a junior forward and he needs the guidance of a senior prop .
Groat on the other hand has been thrown in the deep end .Moors would have to be a better starting option at this stage .

I never watched the game live on Channel 9 but taped the Fox 2 replay at 11.30am last night and watched it this morning. All of that said I had the luxury of knowing the Tigers got cleaned up on the scoreboard yet watched with intent individual performances and I believe Aaron Wood's performance particularly in attack was very good!

He has NO fear in taking the hit-ups and constantly drives forward with a few tacklers trying to bring him to ground. I can see why Ricky Stuart put him in his State of Origin Train on squad in 2011 and at this early stage of his career (injuries being kind) he is headed for representative football. Groat has a lot to learn and his defence is inconsistent and from my observation I don't believe he has mentally accepted he is good enough to mix it with the best in first grade.

I am sure it will come but at times he seems to be like a fish out of water when it comes to positional play and his timing in defence? **But for me Aaron Woods is already one very special player and he is only going to get better and better!**

I agree with most opinions on this thread regarding our young props, but believe their inexperience was totally exposed by the more experienced Dragons forwards and coach. Woods and Groat played to the very best of their ability last night, but the Dragons ran rings around the two of them. They are both very good young players and will continue to develop, but we have to be patient with their development. Go Weststigers!

Both Woods and Groat have a fair bit to learn about ruck defence at this level, and I guess that's to be expected.

There has been criticism today about them being 'soft'. Well they are not soft - the opposite in fact. There is a difference between defending soft and defending loose, and at the moment Woods is defending a bit loose around the ruck and is not laterally getting into position quickly enough when the opposition attacks the ruck. Hence whan the line is broken he tends to be a close on-looker instead of being defensively involved.

Otherwise he is/they are going okay, especially Woods who will be a fine player sooner rather than later.

our key players need to wake up and start playing better footy…thats the problem....benji, robbie, ayshford, lawrence, heino.

I thought reddy was good hybrid what you reckon

Woods is already a better front rower than Gibbs ever was/will be. If he gets a good run with injury, he will play 15 Origins and as many test matches. (and 3 Grand Finals would be nice too)

I believe he is that special.

Bigdamo - "both woods and groat are crap"

I bet your old English teacher reads your posts with pride whilst relaxing in retirement.
Apparently the time you spent in year 6 were the best three years of his career!
