Workhorses Eisenhuth, Jackson set for Friday night face off
Tanisha Stanton Timestamp Wed 25 Jul 2018, 11:43 AM

Matthew Eisenhuth and Josh Jackson are two players who embody what it means to be a tireless worker but only one will come way victorious on Friday night as they go head-to-head at ANZ Stadium.

It's the Wests Tigers who have the upper hand coming into the match, with an abundance of confidence after defeating two top-of-the-table teams in the Dragons and Rabbitohs, and they also prevailed against Jackson's Bulldogs 14-10 when the teams met back in round 12.

Eisenhuth leads the tackle count at the Wests Tigers this season with 704, well clear of Elijah Taylor who is the club's next best on 549.

The 25-year-old also leads the team for decoy runs (112), while ranking second for support plays (199) behind Corey Thompson's 221.

Rival second-rower Jackson has been a workhorse for years at the Bulldogs, with the skipper leading him team in defence this season with 633 tackles, with Michael Lichaa's 500 the next best at Canterbury.

The powerhouse forward has also cranked up the most decoy runs at the club (111) and is ranked fourth for supports plays (165).

On the VB Hard-Earned season leaderboard Eisenhuth holds the sixth spot with 1320 index points, while Jackson is ranked 10th with 1260 index points.

Manly lock Jake Trbojevic is still at the top of the leaderboard on 1481, while Titans captain Ryan James has worked his way into second place, just 81 behind Trbojevic and level with Eels prop Daniel Alvaro (1400). Newcastle Knight Aidan Guerra (1378) has since shuttle down to fourth place.

Each week the VB Hard-Earned Award Index is calculated by doubling the amount of runs a player makes, plus adding in the amount of tackles, support plays and decoys, along with offloads, tackles breaks and charge downs.

A point can be lost for each missed tackle, four points for each error or penalty they concede and a sin bin will cost them eight points.

Wow

So many people look at the stats (metres) of our forwards after a loss. Watching the games its clear our game plan is to use our backs as much as possible to get up the field to keep our middle fresh for defence.

It is clear they work in defence and off the ball but our backs don't combine much with the forwards running lines but it seems with the injection on Farah better combinations are starting to appear as they are getting quicker and better service.

I'm with you , our back 5 does the majority of our hit ups to try and keep our forwards fresh to defend their butts off

Must admit, I've sometimes been one to focus on metres gained, but they are very strong stats. I guess that's why Ivan doesn't think he's a plodder.

The Hooth gets a bad rap on here. One of those players who isn’t a star so he cops it for being average. As if there is no inbetween.
