Worrying Times At Channel Nine for NRL?

With Nine struggling to keep itself afloat the new T.V rights deal it made with Rugby League is starting to look a little bit shaky, with so many NRL Clubs relying on that extra cash to keep them selves going. The Wests Tigers being one of the Clubs finding it hard financially plus the internal problems with Wests and Balmain don’t help.
So as a fan I’m more than a bit worried and bit p@#4$d off that the deal was done with channel nine in the first place by John Grant and the so called Independent commission as far as I know Nine has had financial issues for quite sometime now.
:astonished: 😛ray:

First thing to keep in mind is that, as part of the deal, Ch 9 had to pay a pretty hefty downpayment.
Secondly, the NRL rights are probably the best asset ch 9 has (apart from the license itself) - they're not going to part with that easily.
Thirdly, the other big bidder was Ch 10 - it's not like they're a picture of financial health.

I wouldn't get too concerned yet. Someone will buy 9 if the current owners go into receivership.

Yeah the down the payment was 90 million. Personally I could care less if the deal with 9 goes belly up. There are/were 2 other channels competing for the rights as well. Both of them couldn't treat the game any worse than 9 has - repeatedly. One live a game week - JOKE!

They said on MMM news this morning that clubs would have to wait for their "advanced" grants until the television deal with 9 is signed sealed and delivered. I'm not 100% sure what to make of that. But as Yoss said, I find it hard to see the league rights leaving 9 regardless of the financial position.

Thats what you get for resurrecting a trailer trash show like big brother

:righton: Yes and then tell us all it will be a different show to the old one!

Iam afraid all the networks like the print media are in big trouble. The dollars are not their anymore. Advertisers are spreading theirs dollars a lot wider and smarter. Its going to take a smart operator to survive long term in the tv game
