Your favorite games since 2000

After watching tonight's Chooseday night football, it brought back some good old memories.
There have been some real good games over the past 10 years, especially recently.
What are your top 10?

My 10 favourite Wests Tigers games excluding the past couple of years:

1. St George Illawarra vs. Wests Tigers (Preliminary Final, 2005)
This game beats any other game by a million, billion miles. This was our Grand Final and against all the odds we not only beat the red-hot premiership favourites (ex Parra), but we did it in style. I personally can’t see this game ever being topped and I hope it doesn’t. This game was the culmination of decades of pain, loss and hurt from the failures of the foundation clubs and the forced Joint Venture. Never again should us fans have to endure that kind of hardship; this game was bitter sweet. Not only did this game seal the premiership, but it sealed the Joint Venture and did so in a way that has never before been seen in Australian sporting history.
2. The Comeback (Round 23, 2001)
Kevvy McGuinness’ comeback game in more ways that one. I remember listening to this one on the radio and turning it off in disgust as the Knights ran in another try just after halftime to make it 32-12 (from memory)… thank Christ I turned in back on a few minutes later. Who could forget that amazing comeback to make it 36-32.
3. 37-36 – need I say any more?
4. Parra at Leichhardt (Round 2, 2002)
There was no way we were going to beat red-hot Parra even if we were playing at Leichhard… no way at all! Enter Terry Hill, the 2 foot hole in the turf and an intercept in the final minutes. Pure Leichhardt Bliss!
5. Bulldogs at Campbelltown on Friday Night (Round 20, 2004)
A blockbuster crowd saw the club fall just short of beating the Bulldogs. The 24-20 scoreline was tight and the atmosphere was insane! More Friday night’s at Cambo!
6. Bulldogs at Gosford (Round 11, 2004)
With Prince on QLD duty, Fitzy (in the 7) lead the Wests Tigers (with the help of Kieran Kerr) to victory over the premiership favourites the Bulldogs. Elford’s intercept sealed a gutsy, gutsy win.
7. The first Prince and Benji show (Round 12, 2004)
A packed Leichhardt Oval witnessed the club register three wins on the trot for the first time. The most exciting thing about this game for me was the fact that Leichhardt drew a crowd of 18,883 to watch Benji and Prince rip open a pretty poor Parramatta.
8. The beginning – Benji’s debut (Round 20, 2003)
I think most fans knew that something special was happening during this game. It wasn’t anything amazing (even though we beat the knights 52-12), but there was an almost universal understanding amongst Tigers fans that the kid in the number 14 jersey was going to one day change the fortunes of this club.
9. Bronco Busters (Round 23, 2003)
The Broncos were well and truly gunning, but in the rain Benji was able to rip them apart to grind out a gutsy 12-10 win. This was a cracker of a game and whilst it wasn’t pretty football, it still sticks out in that amazing period when Benji was just being unleashed and we’d signed soo many good players.
10. Satler doesn’t make it (Round 8, 2004)
Yes, it was a loss, but the 22-20 loss against the Panthers on Friday night at Penrith was another game that showed us fans that the team was really started to turn a corner. I remember Satler failing to chase down Amos Roberts, then afterwards a Penrith fan saying to me “you guys will win the comp in a year or two, just watch”

Honourable mention:
• The World 7’s
• Tigers v Rabbitohs at Leichhard in ’04 when the ground smashed 19k!

My top 10 would have to be
1 - St George Semi Final
2- Broncos Semi Final
3- Grand Final
4- Cowboys Semi Final
5- The 2001 Knights 24 pt comeback win at Campbelltown
6- Round 1 2006 beating Dragons again.
7- The 46-6 Benji show at Shark Park in 05
8- Round 2 2002 beating Eels on a hot day at Leichhardt
9- Beating Parramatta at Parra Stadium 18-16 in 2000 when the Tigers chant went up around the ground.
10- This year Melbourne at Leichhardt Oval on wet Monday night.

You guys have pretty much taken the great one's….

2 off the top off my head.....

'05 v Manly Scum Friday night at Leichhardt smashed them 49...something.....the whatever you score we will score more style was in full sing..Benji two tries I think....and Liam scored a classic...

07 V Melbourne Bluetounge..30 to 12...No Hodgo..Fitzy at fullback...Marshall goes down....CRAP.....Enter CHRIS LAWRENCE.....and still plays some of his best games against the Storm.>>>>>>>Leichhardt '09

'

The game against melboring early in the season in 08(?) when Benji went off injured early and Lawrence carved them up.

Some great games there and your right the prelim final against the Dragons was amazing and easily our best victory. I have never experienced anything like it.

Another game was when we beat the Dragons at Kogarah against all odds in 2005\. It was to start our great run of victories. I think we were struggling early in that game and I thought another season gone, then it all just clicked for the next three months.

1.vs dragons 05 Prelim Final
2.vs raiders 05 (Fitzhenry try to keep us in it, come from behind win).
3.vs Cowboys 05 Grand Final
4\. vs melbourne 09 (Chris Lawrence run away try).
5.vs melbourne 07 (No one saw it coming, especially after Benji got injured).
6.vs brisbane 2000 (Good to see some fight in the joint venture).
7.vs manly 09 (Unbelieve we held on to this one).
8.vs dragons 06 (Great to prove we were no fluke).
9.vs dogs 05 (The first time we showed real signs of greatness in 05).
10\. vs saints 08 (Beau and Benji combine to pull of a spectacular match winning try).

1\. Dragons Prelim
2\. Grand Final
3\. Beating Parra at Parra in 00\. A big middle finger to the tosser Fitzgerald, who rubbished the joint venture because he was bitter we didn't merge with the Eels
4\. Beating the Dogs, round 1, 2002\. Beat the cheats, felt good, and every week after felt even better.
5\. Beating Parra this year, felt good to get that monkey off our back, and I got to laugh at some Parra 'fans'
6\. Beating Cronulla in Cronulla 2005, really turned it on that day
7-10\. All the games we put 50 on Souffs, nothings better than wiping the floor with Souffs.

You guys pretty much mentioned all of my favs.

One game that I dont think was mentioned was in 03 against the Dogs at the Showground. They hammered us at Campbelltown earlier in the year, and we were coming off a 5 or 6 game losing streak and yet we beat them on their turf. I cant remember the exact score (16-10?) but I remember Terry Hill having a big game, his first at lock from memory.

Another favourite was when we played the Warriors in 04 at Jade Stadium, I think we were up 40-0 at halftime with Halatau, Mears, and Kerr having big games through the middle… Sadly that game was followed by 50-0 and 56-0 losses and a 5 game losing streak.

The Roosters in 05 to back up our win against the Dogs, it was tit for tat all game until some individual brilliance by Prince won it.

Also Brisbane at Suncorp in 06, Lawrence and Jeffrey having big games on debut with Elford playing at 5/8 yet we ran away with it.

That was a belter of a game, especially at the end I remember we were desperately throwing the ball around and then Payten died with the ball only about 7 metres from the line on fulltime. I also remember Beuttner getting tackled one on one in a try saver just metres from the tryline by the fullback. Ever since that game I have not liked Tony Archer, I remember he missed a blatant knock-on in the in goal by Utai from the 2nd half kick off, later in that set Hazem scored. And then later in the game we made a line break and instead of playing an advantage where wouldve scored for sure, he blew a penalty instead, luckily boof scored off the tap restart lol.

I had that same feeling after that game, I remember Hodgo sliced a couple of relatively easy conversions, and then when we were on top, Galovau carried a bunch of tigers for 10 metres for a try. Heartbreaking loss but at the same time it left me feeling optimistic.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned 2005, Tigers vs Souths at the Den.

Crowd record, standing room only, awesome atmosphere, 3 meat pies for the Rob-dog and we smacked them.

I always remember the game at Kograh that year too. It was the day I broke the hoodoo of attending Tigers games and us losing. We could have put 50+ on them if we didn't put the cue in the rack. Patty Richards smashed one of their players when he was scoring a try.

I think that you are thinking about the game in 2007 that was at Gosford

Hmmm. Memory is rather poor concerning some of the older games. One of the more recent ones that stands out is the game against the Broncos up at Suncorp in 06 when Lawrie made his debut, the week after Hodgo broke his face and nobody gave us a chance. Broncos were at full strength, I think we were at the peak of our injury toll.

Laurie made his debut in 2008, when Broncos were not close to full strength.

I also remember in the last minute we had a good backline move going, when Pritchard knocked the ball on going for an intercept which was somehow deemed not played at.

Was that the game where O'Halloran scored a length of the field intercept try? I remember we were huge underdogs, but all day i just felt we'd win. I remember my wife saying i was off my head, but u know how sometimes u just get that feeling of confidence and cant shake. I loved that game.

Round 2 in 05 againstthe Dogs was a good one too.
