So Brad Arthur, the assistant at Manly when they had that massive finals run. The person who then coached Parramatta to a grand final and from memory a few finals appearances is "unproven"?

Look Andrew Webster was here. Now, he is in New Zealand. Would I like him as coach, Sure... but I would also like Bellamy, Bennett and I will throw in Ricky Stewart...

Brad Arthur is the only experienced coach without a club at the moment.

I think he's past his used by date. If he was that great he'd already have another job.

I have been a Benji fan and happy to see how it all goes but for some reason it just feels like we need an experienced coach that knows how to coach the team and not just play what you see.
I hope he watched how the Panthers played us as that is a professional team with a coach who knows how to dismantle teams.
We just look totally lost in most games and opponents know it.

I was concerned that if we left Benji go that the players like Laui would go but starting to think if we let him go and let Laui have input into a new coach it will work.

The problem we have is if we leave this too long it will limit the coaches available and end up with the dreads again.
Coaches like Michael Cheika would be ideal or Payten if he is let go.

I remember that that experienced coach had a philosophy of letting his first team the warriors play what they see and just promote / move the ball utilising their strengths.
I also remember when he came to us, he seemed to have us very well prepped with a game plan that he felt could best beat the opposition but struggled to provide any options in game when it didn’t go as planned.
I guess what I’m saying is Ivan has evolved, you’d think Benji will to over his career but the warriors took a chance on young Ivan and he got them to the finals a few times and finished his time as a runner up with them.

So it's Arthur..Holbrook or Cheika..none of which are terrible

Over 15 years as an NRL coach he evolved. He's also done 3 years as an assistant at the Roosters and Warriors. Do we have 15 years to wait for Benji to evolve?

Yep. And that is the problem. Everyone knows we are.
I think that is why lockie and TDS left.
Fans see us as the battlers. But why would you play for a team seen as that. Not the 1980's anymore. Everyone wants the big next thing.

Not at all random. Our finances will attract certain kind of coaches.

Every team is given $20m by the NRL and $14m in the cap. We won't be broke because of the NRL grant, but we will always be scraping the bottom for coaches, support staff, facilities, rehab, head of performance etc and since we have a big Junior base, the talent will keep coming, but the amount spent on training them per player will be nowhere near what other clubs spend.

We need a head coach who is willing to take all this on. Guys like Hannay, Ciraldo, Ryles etc are the next big thing but they come from big systems with lots of funding and very good support network.

We need someone who can run a one man show and has nothing to lose. Even if we had Ciraldo here this year, we may have gotten a win or two more, but he won't be able to set us up for the future because he'd get no support.

I don't think Benji is a good coach, but with what we have, he is probably one of the better options available. We aren't going to attract a Bennett or Bellamy etc and out of the inexperienced coaches, I don't mind Justin Holbrook. He's from a big system but he's worked in dire circumstances at Titans but did well enough. He's got a soft, caring personality that resonates with players more.
