Your most unpopular opinion about league

Wayne Bennett is not the super coach everyone thinks he is.. He is good, but every team he has coached has had great players.. Had the pick of a state at Brisbane for years!

Then at st George he came into a team that had great players who had been threatening for years and who back ended contracts to ensure everything aligned for a premiership (even if it meant they were stuffed afterwards). It is no coincidence he left the club after the premiership and didn't hang around to attempt to defend it!

Now to Newcastle and last year he struggled with the team, this year they are looking better ATM but how long till Gidley gets injured again and their season is over?

The man obviously can coach but if he hadn't of been coaching at a super power such as the broncos at the beginning and for so long, would he still be be held in high regard?

The War should always be referred to as the ARL War, as Authurson & Quayle were responsible for tearing the game of Rugby League apart!

This is going to be biggy Watto ,but how can you say that when it was Super League who attacked the NRL first by creating Super League

I know this is similiar to the Packer War and the players reaped the benefits in the long run , but they were the aggressors in the War and they forced the ARL into responding the way they did

If an external force came in and tried to destroy your business and take all of your staff what would you do ??

I think parra would manage

Yeah I thought about us and Parra and think Parra financially might be more stable but I could be wrong and also think the NRL if push came to shove would prefer them to survive than us

I say it was the ARL War too. I look at it like a trade union dispute. There is countless negotiations before the union calls a strike - this is what happened with Super League.

Arko and Quayle were too slow with rationalising the game due to their own club self interests, particularly Arthurson. Super League, whilst being all about tv rights, moved the game forward from the starting point of the Bradley Report (1992).

I would pay money to see John Ribot drawn and quartered in my backyeard.

However it was as much about the backwards operating of the ARL as anything else.

I still laugh when I remember Daley talking about how he would be big in China

Brisbane Broncos playing every Firday night. How can that be fair.

Don't know how Easts afford all their players.

Cam Smith and Cooper Cronk are brillant players and their results speak for themselves. Can't believe some peoples comments.

I cannot stand the Melbourne Storm and think they are cheaters. And that the last 5-6 years of league has been unfair on many teams.

(I usually cop a lot of sh* when I raise these argument with my mates - so feel free to disagree, it won't change my outlook.)

I think that would be considered a popular opinion on league, kh.

QLD have rode to a record winning streak on the back on Storm cheating.

There are many factors involved including NSW ineptitude, but massively overlooked and never spoken about is the fact that many of QLDs top players and 3/4ths of its spine was kept together over their careers by cheating.

1/2 there spine… Locky and JT never played together.

Right now and last year its 3/4ths. And Cronk came off the bench while Lockyer was still playing as well as when Darren was injured.

oooh, love it! great idea for a thread!

* Tigers can still win the comp this year.

* Darren Lockyer was overrated.

* As good a player he is, I don't like Robbie Farah. He has been grumpy and short the couple of times ive met him.

All my own work above.

Common knowledge…agree with KH too.

Shame its impossible to admire our kangaroos (C)....everything he's achieved has some stigma to it

Well…his nose would be! That thing would be huge in any country.

Smith, Slater, Inglis and the other major players that were directly involved in the Storm's cheating should have been booted out of the NRL for good. At the very least they should never have been able to represent their state or country.

I'll add a few more

The draw, and not playing each team twice is a massive joke. and following from that

any playoff/semi-final system rewards mediocrity and it should be first past the post.

Minor premiers should be the premiers, after 26+ rounds it's pretty clear who the best team in the league is.

when storm were caught for rorting the salary cap;
the NRL should have stepped in, shown some guts/ balls and sent Cronk, Smith, and Slater each to a different team.
Bellamy should have been told to coach the team who finished last the previous season.
If they did not comply, then their contract be terminated immediately, and not allowed to play NRL for a indefinite period.

That is probably a little harsh on the players and Bellamy. Basically I think the next year(s) Melbourne should have had a reduced cap.
