Beau Ryan at hooker?

please elaborate….

Ok. 2 other forum members have tossed the idea up and i have warmed to it. I think the only question mark on Beau being a good hooker is his ability to provide clean service all game. He nails every other part of the hooking role. He is super fit and would love the tough stuff. His defense is strong, his work rate high, and his speed out of dummy half would be a bonus we currently lack. His enthusiasm in the middle would be infectous. I can see him making a real go if it and it would allow us to throw more speed out wide in someone like Noufalouma.

Farah is making yards out of dummy half but doesnt look like making a break like he usued to. He clearly does his best work at both first and 2nd reciever where he looks dangerous everytime he's away from dummy half. Farah has had a chronic back injury that is affected by constant bending down and the high defensive workload. I believe his career would be prolonged by 2 years if he moves to 7, and his likelihood of playing Origin would increase as a halfback.

When I first saw the idea of Beau in at hooker, I thought no way, but this line kinda won me over. I'd imagine we could see quicker play the balls, quick runs out of dummy half, Beau could get things moving quickly for the side. The opposition may be on the back foot a lot more.

Certainly an interesting idea.

Much the same as the two or 3 other fans of beau at hooker, enthusiasm, work rate, agression.

His passes from dummy half should be good enough I think. I don't think you would need too much training for him to become an serge hooker.

I don't think he does have the fitness for a full 80, he played some minutes at lock last year and started sucking in the big breaths.

But to me he has the skills to warrant a try. For me it's all about getting Farah more room, as
I've explained my thoughts in a couple of other posts.

I think the more people think about it the better it sits, he is in the middle tapping peoples heads half the time anyway.

**"Haha Smeg at half, given hes the only one of that mob Ive met…hes more a winger type"**

If that's the case, then he'd be a perfect choice for half in a Sheens coached side then

**"Happy might need a hyperbaric chamber My hip is bloody sore Maybe replace me with Tiger 99 for the week or just send me to the glue factory"**

No excuses, Happy! :blah Get back into that team - it's only a flesh wound!

**"Coach would surely have to be Kul would it not?" :roll**

Nah, he's too young - you blokes wouldn't listen to him. I was thinking more of Willow, who should be on here any minute now telling me to GET BACK ON THE TOPIC!!! :rant

And desperate we are, Cunno! I like the sound of that oldies team - I'll volunteer as waterboy :stuck_out_tongue:

Agree with all, except I would move Blair to lock and have him in the guts, not budging out wide.

Not sure about Lawrence at fullback but at least he would contest every bomb.

Humble is a fill in utility at best, not a first grade fullback or halfback in any way, shape or form.

Beau Ryan at hooker, and Farah at 7.

i thought we were trying to win a game ? as usual, people over reacting after a loss.

in saying that, there will be quite a few changes due to injuries !

In - Nofoaluma (rookie), Reddy (return from injury), Miller (return from injury after 2 games back with 20s), Cashmere (new signing), Moors, Davis.

Out - 2 of Moltzen / Humble / Meaney, Heighington (injured), Groat (injured), Galloway (injured), Ayshford (dropped)

i have to be honest and look at his contribution so far.
we have a problem with penalties and he commits them every game.
we have a problem with hard yards.he gives none.
his defense is inconsistent.

he needs to be held accountable like everyone else.
he isn't effective as an 80min player.

we have had 2 golden point games and he hasn't been involved in one play.
when the game has been there to be won,he hasn't shown up at all.
i can't justify a starting place for him.time to send a message, unfortunately it is a bit late for sheens.

if you didn't know who blair was before this year you would not have him starting in our pack.

i can't blame sheens for playing favorites and then start blair.
can't do it.

lawrence is being wasted the way this team is playing.
can get some extra space to attack, can still work out of dummy half and can hit in defense on the try line.
his running ability could also be effective chiming into the backline along with set plays up the gut.
don't recall problems for him under the high ball when he started on the wing for us.

he is now a senior player in this team and can be an effective voice yelling instructions from the back.
time for him to grow as a footballer and take on the responsibility at kick starting us from the back to start our sets.
the best thing is that he is good enough to pull it off.
