Your unpopular opinions.

This is unpopular opinions thread right?

Just thought I'd make it clear exactly how unpopular it was

So we are held to judge by our forefathers…..I feel that it is the intent in how the term is used

for example the number of times Happy.... you yourself have described us a 'Mexicans' is in jest and I don't feel it as racist others may have a different view...

If somebody uses a racial term such as “Asians” or “Mexicans” with vitriol… it is clearly offensive. But if someone uses the same word in a neutral context, how can it be so racist?

Very good article here
http://intentious.com/2013/07/05/when-is-using-yank-[Racist or culturally insensitive words are automatically censored]-kiwi-aboriginal-or-asian-offensive/

Maybe my opinion is unpopular Geo and KS and I'm not trying to pick an argument

I'm not using the term to describe actual Mexicans or any South American country

Calling someone the shortened form of Aboriginal when talking about Aboriginals is offensive in my opinion

And before anyone tries to read anything into it , I am not Aboriginal

Many years ago I almost got in a fight inside a KFC store with two racists so and so's

I was sitting third in a queue behind a Aboriginal who was struggling to understand the difference between two meals The two clowns behind him were making fun of him

When they ordered there meals , the young girl behind the counter asked them whether they wanted original or hot n spicy

They said they wanted Aboriginal , I confronted the two blokes and told them if they didn't apologize ( I was fuming ) that the minute they walked out I would touch them up

One apologized ( not the bloke who made the comment ) and the other straight out said "touch me and I'll ring the cops" , (it appears being racist also means you don't have a bigger enough set to back your comments up)

I said I didn't care , and if it hadn't been for the Aboriginal bloke calming down anything could of happened

I'm not trying to sound tough , I just get angry when I see racist scum in numbers try and hold it over others

I don't think Geo or KS is racist either , I just think we need to think about what we say and who it can offend

Some people in this country's families have been through hell through being treated differently from others and every reminder of this is just setting us back further

Happy I applaud your courage for sticking up for what you think is right…nothing wrong with that or having an opinion on the matter...

I come from a European background but was born in Australia, life for me back in the 70s and 80s going to school wasnt all that good, being called a wog and a daygo didnt sit well with me and I had many battle with the people calling me names..also having my lunch rifled through and the fillings in my sandwiches have sand put on it wasnt good..So I can understand some of the arguements within this thread..Im not bitter at this but cant stand people who think they are better than me for the particular reasons I have outlined..
In this day and age as well as our multicultural background we must discard the very racist remarks all to common within our society...this is what causes rifts between each other living in the same communities.

On the other hand quite often in jest we call people from Melbourne Mexicans and have done for years, they dont take offence...so I can see for and against in the arguement..racial discrimination should not be tolerated....

More of my unpopular Opinions - (trying to keep this thread a little more light hearted)

* I like Michael Ennis

* I like Andrew Voss' Commentary

* I like the looseness Andrew Johns and Brad fittler bring to channel Nines commentary - even if they act like peanuts.

* I didn't see what all the fuss was about with John Skandalis.

* Gordon Tallis is often insightful in his commentary - ditto Mark Gasnier.

I'd disagree with all of that, bar the Vossy one. But i guess that's the purpose of the thread.

You do realise it's the "UNPOPULAR" Opinions thread, right?

You can't bash his opinion in this thread - the whole point is you are supposed to put forward an opinion that you feel the majority would disagree with - for example -

"Hisenberg thoroughly understands the idea of the Unpopular Opinion Thread"

Sorry grandpa

But you have to disagree with him, otherwise it will become a "Popular" opinion , and then should be taken off the UNPopular thread. (At least until someone else then disagrees with him. )
At that time it can go back on the UNpopular opinions thread.
But only until someone else says that he (or She) agrees with him.
Then…..................,,,,,,,,,

Tennis players grunting

They managed to not do it for close to a 100 years

So bloody annoying

While on tennis, how about tennis players double faulting. I mean they spend their entire lives hitting tennis balls and practising their serves, you'd think they would be able to get it within that little service square every single time by now! I was a pretty average tennis player, but I had a good serve and I hardly ever double faulted. If I can do it, sheeesh!

Oh, and this one will probably be more popular than unpopular, but I really hate this:

I suppose it depends what type of Tennis Players they are, and where they are when they are grunting!!

I have actually gone in and done this before, Geo, but it keeps coming back for some reason. The funny thing is that is doesn't happen on every thread - most, but definitely not all. It has been a while since I went in and turned it off (or so I thought), perhaps I'd better try again - thanks mate.

Actually I thought you were both sensible people I will need to re assess that

The difference between calling a Englishmen a Pom , and an American an Yank is socially they have always been classed as an equal

Unfortunately some of our forefathers thought that Italians ,Asians and Aboriginals weren't equals and feel that this term is racist and derogatory and was used by our forefathers as deriding term

Now do you understand ??

I'm not being PC , I'm being respectful to a race that some our forefathers would of eradicated of the face of this planet if they could of

I agree with this completely
