We would have registered the big doughnut without Benji on the field today. The 3 tries we scored were purely his individual brilliance alone. I agree with the big reaction that he hasn't changed much over the years. Brilliant player and clubman that sometimes doesn't play the percentages when you need to. He's playing pretty average this season. I probably agree at this time of his career it would be good for his game to have a new head coach and a different set of ideas and guidelines.

However look around and he is surrounded by nuffies out there today. We got a bloke who played park footy for 2 years playing halfback for us. No wonder he is brain dead after 70 minutes trying to create time after time for a side with little penetration outside and inside of him. Forwards can't get away any offloads and often get dominated. Guys like Heghto and Fulton are just painfully average and ineffective. Our outside backs are generally slow and can't capitalse on overlaps. Nuffies in key positions at hooker, halfback and fullback. Don't get me wrong they all had a dig today and played alright, however there is no attack without Benji. Today a lot of our guys are getting a wrap but there getting wraps based on guts and determination, not on class. Without Benji out there today, there was no other threat from our "spine', no offloads and no line breaks from the outside backs.

He deserves a spray from Sheens for being so brain dead at crucial times. However we might have scored about 2 tries this season without him. I saw a game last year against the Bulldogs when we didn't play where we could have played all night and wouldn't have hit double figures. It was dead set over after 20 minutes that game when the Dogs led 6-0.

Some of our players that have decent profiles like Lawrence, Ashyford, Moltzen, Heighto, Blair etc have not fired a shot this season. Then you got guys like Galloway and Tuqiri on big coin who can barely get on the paddock. We would be a dead set nailed on wooden spoon team if Marshall got injured the way some of these guys are going.

You can only do so much…

Like you said, Benji was the only one doing anything out there tonight. Look at it in a different light. We lost by only one point with only one bloke doing anything, wait till we get Robbie and Big Sauce back…

If we had Robbie out there today we would have won in a canter. Problem is now that after spending so much energy on getting a result, they have a short turn around against a team that is classy and one that we struggle against big time. Don't be surprised if they come out flat next week and then they are 1 and 5\. It's a long way back from there and panic could start to set in. We needed todays results be hook or by crook.

Eddie are you kidding? (maybe you are too young to remember the song).
He did as many stupid things as good - especially kicking.
The referees killed us with bad decisions at the end - but Benji contributed to our loss.
The other guys did their bit for the most part - but he takes ridiculous options sometimes.
We are not a one man team - no team is!

Pretty spot on, Eddie.

A lot of negativity towards Benji for not playing the percentages in the last 5- 10 mins, however, does everyone NOT realise : Without Benji, we would not have even been in the lead with 10 minutes to go, therefore we would not have had that last 5 - 10 minutes to protect the lead, rather we would have lamented another poor loss by the time it got to the final few minutes.. It's just a shame we can't shut out a game

That's also why this loss is so hard to take. The fact is, we have Benji, without him we had no chance, and with him, well, we were very very close and no doubting we should have won. I feel winning this game would have been our turning point in the season, but now it's possibly a turning point in the wrong direction and puts extreme pressure on our team now.

See, to be honest I was expecting a loss against Bunnies( i know negative), so to be up 16-4 with 5 to go, I was so happy and yet if you turn it around and say we lost 34 - 10 ( Like I was thinking it may have ended up) would that be any better ??? When you take a step back - We were close and showed Improvement and all this whilst missing key players such as Farah, Gallaway and to a degree Ellis. So Its still heartbreaking, But if I now think back to before the game started, the fact is we lost, I half expected it anyway But we Improved and should have won which has made the short term scenario MORE painful, but a bit more positive when you break it down…..So Its weird I know, but thats the Positive.. We are Improving... We just have to hope we dont get our heads down - This is where we need strong leadership from our senior guys and Sheens.. Be positive and Know a win will happen if we show passion and heart and commitment and work together as a team, for each other..

We need Benji and we need him to keep confident and back himself and have faith. Go Tigers.

You are dead right mate. Looking at the cattle we have had since 2005, without Benji we would not have made any finals series in 6 years. He is our attack.

Having said that, if Rob played today, I am sure he would have at least attempted to put that game out of reach with any easy FG rather than a try. Fact is though, 12 up with 6 to go should never equal a loss. We had done all the hard work to achieve that lead and it was crushing to see it evaporate like that.

Benji is our strike weapon. He should be unleashed with all due confidences when in the opposition half. However we desperately need someone to help get us down that end. Usually Robbie is good in this regard. His kicking out of dummy half get us good cheap field position.

I am so pissed off at Lui for his actions, not just because of what he did, but also what he has deprived this side of. He was going to be the third wheel. He could have done the ugly stuff with Robbie in our half to get good field positioning so that Benji could unleash his array of talents on opposition defences in the traditional scoring zones. We need someone to help him now….this season is starting to get away....

Team full of Maria Sharapova's. Can look good, hot at times. But destined to achieve sweet fa.

Don't get me wrong, he takes some brain dead options, and he deserves heat for 2 horrible plays late in the game today. I'm just pointing out that replace him with anyone else out there and it's probably 4-0 to Souths with five minutes to play. The three tries we scored were because of how brilliantly unconventional a player he can be.

Be nice to see a forward poke through and offload, or an outside back run 60, or anyone else make a line break or throw a nice pass for a try, or even create an opportunity. I just pointing out that we might be a genuinely hopeless team without him in my opinion.

Your probably right. Although it's a fine line. We have won more games by 6 points or less then any there team in the last 2 years. Get that rightful penalty for knees in the back v Dragons in 2010 and they prob win the comp that year. I suppose you could argue they should not have been playing the Dragons anyway as they should have closed out the game against the Roosters with a collapse that we are seeing too often late in games.

Good call Eddie. Humble played well and Moltzen played well but they don't ever create anything do they ? It's all Benji. Be nice to have a second option go to man like most teams.

This is seemingly why we've signed Anasta. With him today surely we take a field goal, and not go over the sideline on tackle one.

Benji was brilliant for 70 minutes today but still deserves criticism for his two bone headed plays. If they were a one off I would be willing to let it slide, but we've seen it all before.
