With Blore out for most likely the entire season, signing a second rower is now pretty important

Only recognised second rowers we have are Luciano, Tuilagi and Garner. I don't want to resort to putting Joffa or Seyfarth there so signing someone aa depth seems important

mate you now the kids, anyone ready?

Probably not from our bunch at the moment, they're a bit too young. Might be able to find a young kid somewhere else though

Justin Matamua re-signing is excellent news and smart business. Truly a standout junior who we have locked up before other clubs can come sniffing

Isn't it great now we now have Sheensy back and and there is a clear pathway for our own juniors. Lock up our own before looking elsewhere. They are the future of this club.

Seyfarth excelled in the second row in SG Ball. He was always mobile, had high work rate and was not afraid of heavy contact. His game lifted when it got tough. In tough situations, it's the good players that stand up. Let's not turn every big forward we have into a prop.

How does the salary cap work mate, are we a player down, do we get any cap relief or you have to promote someone from development or state cuo?

Doesn't seem fair we a player short all season

I'd say it will be Leulia & Garner's spots to lose now with the next candidate Tualagi. There was mention a couple of months ago by The Pom I think that we were looking at the uncontracted Shark Jackson Ferris as a potential Centre / 2nd Row backup. And don't forget we have Tom Freebairn on T&T so if he has impressed this preseason, he might just get a deal. Although only 19, I think Brandon Tumeth is going to be a fast developer, maybe faster than we think.

I think they can apply for salary cap relief with the NRL

I'm a big fan of Seyfarth but not sure if he has the mobility to play in the second row in the top grade at the moment?

I wonder if they're trained Tuki and Seyfarth at second row at all. Surely with the limited depth in that position they have some backup plan.

The other option which the Eels may consider is releasing Matterson. He played well for WTs and was never afraid of the physical side of the game. We're a much improved club in the coaching Dept with our new assistants and Sheens.

Ferris is not good enough.
He's short too.....

Wouldn't even be a good bench option.
Need to aim higher if we're looking to replace Blore.

um no. would divide the club (again)

Yep wouldn't want the cat Matterson back here. We couldn't guarantee him that training won't run over the allotted time. Weak maggot is a good fit as a Parra player.

Get to Rd 10 I think it is and we have 3 second rowers as development players eligible to be there as depth. I feel like Tumeth's progression in particular could end up being fast tracked if we need it.

I just hope they don't jump too quickly and get an average 2nd rower on a 2/3 year contract that then blocks the pathway for our young blokes going forward.

Could always shuffle 'Mr Utility' Peachey into the second row and get Seyfarth into lock if short on troops too.

If all players ripped in like Matterson did while at WTs I would be happy for them to complain about training running overtime.

Remember how many times Maguire told everyone who would listen how well the team trained? Then we would go out take a hammering.

I'd think our halves would like a big forward like Matterson protecting them in defence.

Lucky we held firm on Luciano and didn’t grant him an early release. Our back row stocks are low as it is. Hopefully one of the young guns takes this opportunity. I’m just unsure on who will

Matterson "ripped in"? That's not what I would call it when someone gets their blouse in a knot, kicks stones and moped about and basically holds a club to ransom until they kick his arse to the exit.
Sure he had a handful of games where he did some good things but I can't recall him doing anything much in defence and being a physical minder for the halves.
Plus once Packer and then Kaufusi bounced his head like a squash ball IMO since then he's been badly damaged goods. No thanks.

I thought he really slowed down towards the end of the season with us. Couldn’t keep up the intensity for the whole season. Was disappointed when he left but doesn’t worry me at all now

Yes he did. I recall a solo try where he beat four perhaps five players to score on a tough inside run. Matterson has courage on-field where it counts.

I don't want peachey used as a tackling forward, he's not there for that, we need solid backrowers for the softening up period and peach to come on as an impact loosey or fill in halves.
I didn't think Garner was going to get to much time on the paddock but now with Blore out he'll be needed.
