Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

With an experienced back rower a priority for 2023, looking through the uncontracted players that I think would be worth a decent contract:

Briton Nikora - The Pom has mentioned we've been talking to him but more than likely to stay at Sharks.
Cory Harawira-Naera - could just be the change & leadership opportunity to be the making of this guy. Has a strong battle for a starting 2nd Row position at the Raiders.
Jack Williams - if Nikora re-signs, I'd look at this guy. There is just something about him. Not flashy but gets the job done, strong defender & can play middle too. Could give him more than he's on at Sharks & he'd still be good value.

Thoughts?
Any of those guys would make our 17 right now.
If it were up to me I'd probably go for CHN. Williams is a battler for sure, but I think we have too many of those and I thinks he's more a middle than an edge. Nikora is a good player but I think CHN provides a bit more strike which has been lacking in our team the past few years.

We already paid decent coin for papali which I assume for second row, think we we spent decent money again on second row it would be to the detriment and possibly loose juniors. I'd say the plan is to develop within for that position.

CHN and Nikora are the ones - Sign them both ha

I like the way Madge and now Sheens are building this club.

Remembering we have been largely inconsistent and unsuccessful for the majority of our existence.

Only now do I believe that we have a stable foundation that we can build sustained improvement.

I really like the Madge culture. The Harder I work, the Luckier I get.

I don't understand why people say this. I don't want him to be "anything", I want him to be "very good" or better!
“Could be anything” is an each way bet. Crap or Great Signing. Like you just hope he is good or better. Lets see how he goes. Just hope he is not there to make up the numbers. Already have enough of them. Hopefully we can exceed expectations and come in above bottom four in 2022. It’s 2023 I am looking forward to when we truly will make an impact with some great cattle coming to the club. Will be exciting times then. To be enjoyed by all. More importantly will not be just for a year but for a sustained period, as true contenders and not the pretenders we have been.

Great analysis

Been saying this for months. Everyone said it after the last round round against the Dogs. Off season is a strange time. Everyone forgets how bad the team was the previous year and always develops a false sense of optimism. Which is fine if there are reasons for it, such as improvement in the roster like you pointed out. But we already had a weak roster, and we’ve been the weakest club in the player market. So naturally that does not bode well.
, it's always about hope with WT fans, not necessarily the reality. Can you imagine where we'd be if we honestly faced facts?
Anyway, IF Hastings is the player we hope he is and IF he brings out the best in Brooks, there's probably 5 or 6 extra wins in the tight ones right there. And IF our attack improves and our defence naturally follows, well....... we'll see. The roster isn't that bad, it's just been underperforming. Top 8 isn't that far away.

I am more with this, as I think the squad is okay and underperformed mainly because it wasn't utilised properly and has definitely been improved.

I expect much better results over this coming season and that we will see the change from the early rounds.
