Wests Tigers fans are expected to get their first look at English import Oliver Gildart on Friday night as coach Michael Maguire prepares to roll out some of his big guns for the club’s opening trial at Leichhardt Oval.

Halfback Luke Brooks is also expected to get some minutes against Manly as both clubs step up their preparations for round one as part of a double header which will also feature Canberra and the Sydney Roosters.

Gildart was one of two high-profile Tigers signings over the off-season from Super League — supporters will have to wait to see Jackson Hastings as he works his way back to full fitness after a minor lower leg injury.

However, Tigers fans can take solace in the fact that Tyrone Peachey is likely to pull on the club’s jersey for the first time.

A couple players might get some time, but there won’t be much gained from this weekend. Usually it’s the second trial where you play your best 17 and we can whip ousrselves into a frenzy of either false hope or wrist slitting.

The guys are going into pretty heavy contact sessions from last time I heard, pretty common for this late into pre season close to kick off…I’d say it’s just a little niggle not worth risking in a trial

I’m disappointed that Hastings is unavailable but I’d prefer to rest him and not risk aggravating the injury.

Hopefully some younger guys like Tupou and To’a get a decent run.

Agreed…you would think the NRL would be doing everything in its power to generate interest in the up coming season. 25 bucks for a trial game is crazy. Should be free for members of any team and ten bucks for non members….As usual the NRL get it wrong
