Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

I listened to his side of the story on bloke in a bar was pretty interesting i would like to hear the clubs side of the story before passing judgment but we have to admit over the past 6 years the club has done some very questionable things I can see why some players have had the craps with the club the handling of not resigning benji has to be up there with the worst as soon and they made a choice he wasn’t going to be needed next year he should I have been the first person told for him to read it in the media then have to ask Madge is terrible he is arguably our greatest ever player

I simply can't agree with that....
Benji thought he "could wait" until the end of the season to see if he "felt like" US giving him the best part of 400k and a roster spot, To go around again... At 36 when he wasn't playing great.
AND we already 4 Halves (Outside Brooks) that were contracted for last year....

The only reason the song and dance came about, Was because he looked at the situation realistically (for once) and realised there wasn't going to be a spot for him....
Then hit the panic button.
- What NRL Player / Agent waits until there is no contract, Before deciding to look look for a contract...
And what NRL Club waits until the death to sure up such an important position?

Truth is, He always knew he wasn't looking to retire - and in true Benji Fashion, He made it all about him...
As he said on fox, "I assumed there'd be a contract for me..... If I wanted one"
If any other player in the game said that publicly - about any club... He'd be laughed all the way back to the TAB. Not Benji though, They all crack out the violins.

So much love for Doueihi here - How does he play 6 last year with Benji on the books... Further to that, If he's not at 6 - How do we have Laurie (Another favourite) at 1?
It's not 2007 anymore - The club and the game had moved past Benji - The only one not to realise it... Was Benji.

He skipped out on his contract last time with us and made it all about him and how he'd been wronged... HE STILL HAD 2 YEARS TO RUN!! Now, He's got away with it again...

Like Gordon Tallis said a couple years back, If you could keep your job based on who you used to be - I'd still be playing for the Broncos.

To wind it up, Benji Marshall did a lot for this club - What we owe him is immeasurable.....
But we also did a lot for him, We nursed him through injury - We fostered our game to keep him in the game - We've all supported him through 15 years of his super hot or frosty cold....
AND he got paid...

The West Tigers may not be the Wests Tigers without Benji Marshall, In turn Benji Marshall may well not be Benji Marshall if not for the Wests Tigers..

We finished up pretty square.

Eloquently and accurately said

Excellent well thought out post.

Fantastically worded mate really well Said just for the record I didn’t want benji to play for us last year I just thought I could have been handled a little better

20/20 Vision in hindsight mate, I think everyone knows it could have been handled better - Including Benji....
If he wanted a contract extension, He also could have tried to have one negotiated earlier in the season... instead of just assuming because he wanted one - it would effortlessly fall in his lap.

Excellent well thought out post.

Not really mate, It's always how I've felt about the situation,
and moreso.... The reality of the situation.
There's lots of players that would like a contract - doesn't mean they automatically get one.

Either way, I see he's back around the place (again) smiling from ear to ear...
Despite his best efforts - It seems the club is "still" looking out for him...

Seems the raiders have a lot of depth in the centre position and looks like savage will get the fullback spot should we try and get charnze nicoll klokstad to play centre and cover fullback Madge has played him at centre before at an international lvl and he played great

From today's Daily Telegraph (apologies if it has been posted elsewhere)

At the other end of the scale teams like the Wests Tigers have to pay way ‘overs’. They have Luke Brooks on $900,000 yet we suggest he’s worth more like $550,000. James Tamou is on close to $800,000 but is no longer in that big-money league.

I don't understand, legally speaking, how the media can post salaries that are in all likelihood nowhere near accurate.

This is completely different to every figure that has been previously mentioned for Tamou. 😂. It’s more then double

No way tamou on 800

I hope he is - gives us a lot of money to play with for season '23 🙂
😏 Yep. Good narrative. maybe someone at the club club is messing with Buzz brain. It was reported he was on 300K when we signed him. Now its his last year, we are telling Buzz its 800 so fit more signing in for 23. And he’s dumb enough to print it. Straight out of the Roosters hand book
