Michael Maguire leaves club

Against popular opinion and aware of how bad things look for Maguire I just can't back this squad at his expense. I see no allegiance to the club from any of them and - if true - the one guy who I gave the benefit of the doubt to over and over again wants out without delivering then clearly we don't have the right players. With or without Maguire this squad is going nowhere and yet it seems the person most desperate to see the club do well is the one who will get sacked.
I don't believe it fair to rate any player until that player has been exposed to the coaching of another coach.

There is a big allegation here. You are assuming Madge knew he did his ACL. The ACL test you do on-field, you can get a false negative 1 out of 10x, especially if he didn't have a meniscus or MCL injury to go with it. He might have been misdiagnosed by the physio (again, it happens) and you can still play without an ACL. To allege that Madge knew GI did his ACL and forced him to play is wrong unless you have an article or something to prove it.

I was at the game - it’s not like Madge was out on the field testing his knee…
The way it gets bought up it’s like he was…

Rabbits physio is Robbie Farah’s brother - Knows his stuff…. For whatever reason he stayed on the park certainly wasn’t because Madge wanted to squeeze another few drops from his leg

Our own WTs' players knew he was seriously injured and demonstrated compassion towards him which made me proud of the standards of the Club.

Same thing. If we sacked him last year, we would have <1year to pay out, now we have 2.
Thats not right - there were some
Results determine fate. Three years of failure followed by an appalling start to 2022.
All in jest - just using the article to play devils advocate. I said last year ( and i'm sure my posts can be traced ) that Madge had 6 rounds to show his worth - no knowledge - just a gut feeling that unless there was improvement across the board he was gone. Obviously Madge would be more privy to whats happening than the guessing game that goes on here But there would have to be a few tremblings when Sheens starts saying nothing is happening.

Pascoe is the worst football recruiter in history hopefully he is not involved
As far as i know the only possible recruitment Pascoe has done in the past was getting Ivan here. I have never seen any evidence of any player that Pascoe has recruited. If i am wrong please provide some evidence to show that he has been involved in player recruitment. I am quite happy o be stand corrected.

you spoke to them? are you a doctor? were you on the field?
It was evident watching the game when one of our best ever players can barely hobble and our own players are demonstrating compassion for his plight that there is something seriously wrong. Also, there was the issue of him missing six months of football due to an ACL injury. That may be good enough for most, bur not you.

Apparently I wasn't the only one who noticed it. A few comments from NRL identities.

I always remember that game Round 1 2018 when Maguire was coaching Souths against the Tigers and Greg Inglis did his ACL early in the game and he kept him on the field for another 50 or so minutes.
If that is the game I am thinking of it was billed as Robbie Farah vs Wests Tigers after the scarecrow did that famous job on him.

From memory we won that game fairly well in the end but we let Inglis score while on one leg and we didn't target him like we should have as if we didn't want to hurt him, but even worse, Bryson Goodwin had a day out and scored not once but 3 times, we made him look like a world beater.

Nothing has changed because this team just doesn't have that competitive killer instinct regardless of who we have in the team. How often, even when we were winning have we gone on with it and put a score on a team, instead we just take the foot of their throat and more often than not let them back in the game.

There is something wrong at this club, we are just soft and I don't know what needs to be done to give us that hard edge killer instinct needed to bring us success or at the very least have us competing on a regular basis.

Looking for a couple of bright spots amongst the gloom, after only conceding 26 points in each of the two opening matches, our WT were 4 better than last year's average of 30 and nearer to their 2020 number.

Manly below us and last on the table is worse and we have until at least 7.45pm on Friday to hold onto that.

Would have said goodbye to Maguire at the end of 2020 and was shocked at the stupidity of WT's extension of his contract through to the end of next bloody year instead. I tried to stick solid and get behind their decision, but reality didn't allow that to last for long into last season.
I'm still laughing about the inquiry that was held and the end result was one of the inquisitors being shown the door.

Only at the Wests Tigers but I suppose as long as hat sales are up then all is good.

More football staff. Ivan, Kelly, hartigan, Madge ect

It was pretty obvious that he was on one leg and a liability as I have mentioned elsewhere. Just Madge managing the bench I guess, who really knows.

It's also true that we didn't do too much to test him out and target him, whether that was out of pity, respect for an injured player or just being soft, I guess is up for debate as different people will have different opinions.

Geez, we even let him score a try pretty much unopposed.

I was there too. I remember we had a scrum about 40 out and he was standing on the wing. Moses or Brooks put a kick in on the first tackle and he could only hobble as we scored.

At the end of the day, how long does the club give Madge to achieve results or start achieving results? The losing culture and mentality in this club sucks and I've had enough. When is the club going to wake up and get rid of this guy and find the right guy. We are so worried about the media hammering us for getting rid of another coach and yet the club festers just that little bit more. Madge has set the standard that if you train hard during the week than you're in the team, but what about the performance on the weekend. There seems to be no consequences for some of the pathetic displays week in week out, but as a player you know that if you train hard again during the week, you'll be back in again.

It’s been 5 years so the memory is fuzzy, but I’m almost certain our players took pity on him and did the bare minimum whenever he got the ball. I’m sure Gus pointed that out.

I still dont think sacking the coach is the answer....

Same here. I don't see sacking the coach improving us. His tenure has so far been a failure though and I can't see that changing.

I really think our recruitment and retention has improved though. It's still not good enough but there is a massive improvement compared to Cleary.

We've started to see a change in defensive style under Cayless which if we keep at we will be solid but at the moment we still have brain explosions.
When this happens you see Madge barking orders but the players get gun shy and switch off.
Is this Madges' fault. Players have to take responsibility for not playing basic football.
We've had a couple of unlucky tries scored against and unlucky not to score ourselves.
We led Storm but didn't play for full 80.
If you only started to follow the tigers from round 1 and never saw them play before you wouldn't call them a shambles.
I think our roster is to blame for our failings not so much Madge.
Madge must get his bench worked out and his game plan.
Players last week didn't know what they were doing.
As I said, players have to take responsibility.
As far as Captain goes, Hastings for me, one director.
Noone is talking about assistant coaches.
I know Madge has the final say but we have Gards, Noddy, Cayless etc.
In actual fact, go to the Weststigers staff directory and there appears to be thousands of support staff involved in putting a team on the park.
It seems a very complicated process, but football played at a basic level with intensity will get you winning imo.

P.S. sorry if posts are shoddy, set back with arm and have to text left handed, try it sometimes, bloody hard 🥴

Madge has been disarmed!

NRL360 host Paul Kent says the blame for the Tigers poor start to the season lays with the players and not under-pressure coach Michael Maguire.
Maguire’s future has come under scrutiny once again after narrowly avoiding the axe at the end of the last year and starting 2022 with back to back losses.
“How long has Madge got?” the Daily Telegraph’s Buzz Rothfield asked on NRL 360.
Kent didn’t hold back
“I don’t think Madge is the problem, it is the players, the players and I think the roster is terrible, it is out of shape, there is players there that are not Michael Maguire players, James Roberts has never been a Michael Maguire type player,” Kent said.
“He likes them tough and relentless, James Roberts has had to be conjoled his whole career, look he has got super talent but he has never fulfilled that.”
Kent said Maguire had been “disarmed” by the “soft” Tigers playing group.
“He can’t coach the way he wants to coach because he has to mollycoddle them. He has to keep the players on side because the minute he loses the dressing room he will be out because it’s cheaper to sack the coach than it is to sack the players.
“He’s been disarmed as the coach. He can’t get in and do it the way he wants it to be done because it’s so fragile there at the moment.
“He’s trying to nurse everything through and it’s not working”.
Despite being under pressure, Rothfield detailed a call he had with Tigers football boss Tim Sheens dispelled any rumours of Maguire’s departure.
“Tim wouldn’t have a bar of being critical of anyone, he threw his full support behind the playing group and his full support behind Michael Maguire,” Rothfield said.
“He wants to be patient, he said there will not be a knee-jerk reaction at the Tigers and he wants to give him more time.”
“The concern though is you are getting down on effort and energy in Round 2, you can have a mental week off after Round 10 or 11, you get through that Origin period.... but it is Round 2 and they haven’t turned up,” Kent said.

While the Tigers have some talented players within their ranks, Braith Anasta wondered if their salary cap is the issue, leaving Maguire with a playing group simply not good enough to compete in the competition.
“They have always paid overs for players who haven’t delivered, did he pay the price with the roster he has taken on or has he just not achieved,” Anasta asked.
“There was an epic hangover when Ivan Cleary upped and left them to go back to the Panthers because he had signed a variety of different players on long-term contracts big money, and it bit them on the arse,” Fox League’s James Hooper replied.
Rothfield, however, said the Tigers will need to make a call in a month.
“In a month’s time they need to make a decison the Wests Tigers.
“There’s two old hard coaches out there without a job. I’m talking Shane Flanagan, premiership-winning coach and Paul Green, premiership-winning coach.
“They are tough men and I think the Tigers need tough love.”
