Daine Laurie #237

I don't care what players do in their own time, as long as it's legal and they don't hurt anyone.

However considering our club had a big game in Newie the next day, it's inexcusable.

I want to call them clowns, but that would be degrading clowns. At least clowns have a trick up their sleeve.

This is a serious issue.

Anyone that can't link the unprofessionalism of being at a pub the night before a game and the soft crap that continually gets dished up in the field is kidding themselves.

Our club suffers from a lack of professionalism. And a lack of accountability. Players think they can come to the club and take it easy, have some fun with the boys and get paid.

This culture has to be stamped out ASAP. Really these players should be stood down this week to send a message, but with our current injury lists they may have to be fined. The captain needs to lay it down the Laurie, Roberts and Peachey they their conduct is not good enough and they've let their team mates and fans down.

I genuinely dont get this. What were they expected to be doing? What time do we think is a reasonable time to be in bed?

What if they were at a restaurant at 9pm? Or a coffee shop? Would that have been ok? They were not drinking which shows professionalism.

How's the Knights fan claiming to be disappointed to see players at the pokies. Luckily nobody in Newy plays pokies and a Knights player in the local games room would of course be heretical, rather than a local low-key approachable regular type guy who doesn't eat breathe and shit rugby league 24/7.
A Newy fan being disappointed is the funniest bit of it all..Imagine if said fan ran into Joey n Matty pre-game back in the day...

It's a nothing story.
JTJ had his best game for us, maybe he needs to go out the night before a game more often.
Jimmy the Jet strikes me as a guy with an addictive personality. People with these personalities tend to perform poorly in life when they withdraw from their addictions. They often incorrectly link their addictions with their performance. e.g. Have you ever heard of people playing well in sports while being hungover? They needed the thrill from the previous night to wake their brain up.

Perhaps pokies is the rush he needs to get him going. Not a good idea in my opinion as it's one of the easiest things to get addicted to.

Said it better than me.

It isn't the biggest crime but it does say a lot about their approach to the game. They are professional athletes and should be preparing as such. That doesn't include a night at the pub the night before a match. In saying that, if the gronks didn't play like the way they did, this article wouldn't have been surfaced. Them playing pokies doesn't contribute to the result, they're just living their lives.

Reality is that these guys probably trained during the day,had their video sessions and gameplan and talk over and done by 5/6 that night.....people forget that they are entitled to their free time...they werent drunk, molesting women or brawling ....

some people including the Newc fan should really get a life...its not like they were out until 5 in the morning on the piss....
Fair dinkum....not worth worrying over.....

I think this is a terrible look and probably explains Laurie’s form. Losing a few thousand dollars the night before isn’t going to put you in a good mindset for the game. It’s no surprise these two played the way they did.

Do you have proof they put a few thousand dollars through the pokies....and why arent they allowed free time after their commitments for the day...its their business what they spend...its only a bad look because we got beat...if we won you wouldnt even make a crap comment like that without thought...

Honestly just another opportunity for a trumped up headline and to put more crap on the club. It is seriously ridiculous that this is even written about.
This event aside, both these players, and a few others as well, do need an attitude correction. I think that Sheens ought to step up here and drag a few aside and read the riot act to them about what it should mean to represent the WT club both on and off the field. Sheens needs to outline clearly what is expected and the consequences of not meeting that mark have to be followed through with. Time to get really tough on this lot.

When you turn up and play like they do , then something isn’t right. They are professional athletes who get paid big money to deliver. If I did something the night before that impacted my performance then my boss wouldn’t be happy and they are no different. Would love to know when these two ended up going back to the hotel because I’d be pretty sure the night didn’t end up there for them.
