They have Burton & some huge upgrades in the forwards and backs at the Bulldogs this year and so far aren't scoring tries either. Yes Kyle played bad but he hardly had cattle around him to help take the load off an inexperienced half's shoulders.

I do think halves today get hammered & people have an inflated expectation of their role in the team when teams are not performing over the other massive gaps that those teams have which drive bad results.

Hopefully they get an extension done with Madden soonish. Throw a few more bucks at him and the likelihood of NRL action sooner rather than later and we should ward off these other parties.

I’m not sure why we are expecting Madden to be the great hope.
I see another 10 years of a similar pattern if we are replacing Brooks with Madden.
We need the best sharpest young half in the game and get him into our system. A lot like Newcastle did with signing Ponga.

Currently he is our cheap backup half. He might be the next big thing...we don't know yet. Better to extend him now, than later, when we have competition, especially if he goes well over the next period of play. We have the cap room too. I'm not saying making him a millionaire, just a few bucks and a couple of years.

Bottom line, I doubt Madden would extend knowing he is still behind Brooks and Hastings, and the Dogs have a no7 role up for grabs. Also when AD is back there is another contender for a half’s job

Madden now has three weeks to sell himself.
