Luke Brooks - Mega Thread

So keeping brooks and Madge is going to help this team??? Please be realistic it's people like u a and the coach having faith in shit is why the team is going shit!!!! Brooks and the coach are the worst thing that has happened to this club simple!!!
Read my post again. You missed the point.

.....and you wasted too many exclamation points. Ten points will be deducted from Gryffindor.

If you offload Brooks, you're left with no half depth, a two-year debt worth about 4-500k a year and you still have the Madge issues to deal with.

What is the benefit there?

If you think that simply getting rid of Brooks or simply getting rid of Madge will solve the problem, or even bring about major change, you're being overly simplistic.
Question is, which is better. Is it better to pay Brooks $850k to play first grade and underperform for two years or is is better to pay him $450k to play for somebody else for two years and have $400k to spend on another player and play someone else at half.
Genuinely, not an easy question. Would probably back option 2 but the optics of spending nearly 10% of our cap on players who play elsewhere (Brooks and Mbye) are terrible.

4 years ago your child won a ribbon in a school race, whereby there were only a few participants and all the good athletes were sick. You know it was a hollow victory, but at the time that doesn't matter and certainly does not stop you celebrating their achievement. And rightly so!

But 4 years later you are still endlessly reminding everyone about that race and using that as your source of praise?

Hmmm.
and Madden has won nothing

Absolutely. I think therein lies their dilemma.

My original post was more referring to the fact that sacking either he or Madge will not, on it's own, change our fortunes.

To be honest, I'd lean more towards option a, simply because I'm not sure we have anybody who can improve the team based on current performances, at least over what Brooks is doing, least of all sacrificing 450k to find out.

For the record, I think that a new coach may well be needed, and between the two, I see more potential success in Brooks at the club than I do Madge, at least right now. But that may change next week, it's such a tricky one.

Also tend to think that it may well be Madge's tactics stifling Brooks' effectiveness, rather than Brooks' ability affecting the success of Madge's tactics, if that makes sense.

I also think that they are just one small part of the problem. So the answer is a pineapple.

Need we mention -

Justin Pascoe
Multiple home grounds and lack of identity
Loss of connection to community
Clubs' inability to attract decent players (Pre-'23)
Line speed (or lack thereof)
5x Captain Lottery
Constant in-club media leaks
.... everything else.

if we had Douhie fit and Hastings fit then sure let Brooks go in 2023
we are currently paying 400k of Mmbye and potentially 400k of Brooks geez 800k on players to play elsewhere
Guarantee if we let Brooks go Hastings or Madden gets injured and we literally have nobody

Agreed. My first priority would be to write a nice reference for Pascoe and wish him well for the future ....... somewhere else.

It’s an easy call. Pay someone else to take him. We then achieve two things: starting a new chapter while killing off a competitor.

It opens another Pandora’s box for us re; recruitment.
We are already regarded as the club you come to when looking for a retirement package. Knowing that we’ll let you go to another club under contract is a big incentive for the type of players we don’t need here.

So suggestions that Luke is tanking seem spot on
I don't know who suggested it but since you mentioned it, that's a horrible allegation. Say whatever you want about his talent in attack or even value to this team but to say that he's tanking is insulting. You only have to look at how he puts his body on the line each week in the defensive line. To me, he's actually the best defensive half in the comp, he stands his ground against all sorts of backrowers.
