The fact Gildart is first choice centre is indicative of where we sit on the ladder.

There are some centres who can create a sense of ‘stand out of your chair’ expectation when you see the ball getting passed in their direction. Gildart could be one of those, but for now his mistake rate is too high.

Club has done nothing to address this... for years.

Just expect kids like AJ and Talau to succeed and then bring in Gildart who needs time in cup and expect the same.

I thought Momirovski was ok. With AD the other one.

You could see it coming a mile away Gildart being a failure. All the highlight videos posted of him over the summer were only building up massive disappointment. And it proves that a lot of people have no appreciation of just how much of a step up the NRL is. At least Hastings has played NRL before so he can somewhat adapt. He won’t be one of the competitions premier halves like he was in the ESL, but he should get a pass mark. Gildart though was always going to end in tears.

You’re never going to jump out of your chair for a player who can barely out run a 70 year old women. And this guy supposedly dominated the ESL. Imagine how bad some of his opponents must have been.

He can run - just don’t expect him to hold the ball while he does… it’s bound to come out somehow

Pretty hard to pick ‘em young. For all the youth that come through with huge wraps there are a really small percentage that kick on.

Gildart has had 3 games, I think he needs more time, pommy player take time to adjust. The dogs wanted to punt Thompson after three games but now he has value

I agree hugh there's a huge difference between ESL and NRL, I'm prepared to give him more time

He has split them a couple of times. It's just the last pass that is going astray. Roberts has also looked sharp.

I reckon they both deserve a fair few more chances.

I think Gildart has given some spark in attack. Still work to be done, but he is doing OK.

I think the club has been trying to do to sign a decent centre for a while but there has simply been no on the market willing to come here

I'd like to think you are wrong about AJ. I think he will come good, fingers crossed!

Outside backs’ pay rate has been dropping too. If the nrl was a circus, they would be the high wire act, and the people come to see the lions and tigers.

Who was the last quality outside back at the club? We’ve invested in youth - for the last 10+ years…
we gave them all so much money we couldn’t afford experienced quality!!

Youth is 50-60% of the answer - they need someone to teach them to toe the line and work for it.

At a time when the dominant centres / backs are tall, lean and fast athletes, we go out and get an average Joe who isn’t quick and is mistake prone. Stop signing guys based on them playing 1-2 rep games please. There’s a reason they were dropped.

100%. It’s been said by the experts over and over. More young guys succeed at Melbourne and the Rortsters because they are brought into a winning way, learning winning habits.
