Two decision last week that sum up the season so far.

If you go back and watch the game last week against the Titans there are two passages of play that sum up everything. Coaching, decision making, leadership and just football brains.

To give some context in the Storm games , Hughes took the ball ran a little wide and turned it back into Papenhuyzen..............result a try from a planned, thought out move. St George the week before did a similar move with Hunt turning the ball back to Duffy.....result a clean break. Manly do the same move with Tommy Turbo and we all know the results there.

But against the Titans on two occasions who does Brooks turn the ball back into ..............a fast running Jame Tamou. Not Roberts, Nofa or Laurie.............James Tamou. Guess what, there was no clean break.

Who decided this to be a good planned move, who didn't say nup he's too slow, who didn't think nup this is not on I will try something different. Who is making what decisions ..... or are they just too scared now .

However, miraculously the Titans did not score during that period.

Could possibly say something about them as well.
 
I don't know if the players are following Madge's instructions or just doing what they like. Certainly there has been little or no cohesion on the fired in 2022. What is all this a result of? surely the team can do much better.

They are also terrible, yet...they still won the game and the 2 competition points.

Meanwhile the Tigers are getting worse week on week. That fixture is now widely regarded as one of the worst (if not the worst) games of football ever seen in first grade.

Their prep was a shambles due to Covid illnesses, forcing lineup changes all week.
Even their coach said their hope was to not lose. Mission accomplished.

Yeah our runners are just sitting in their lanes waiting for the ball to come to them. Either they are lazy, or they’re being coached that way. Both outcomes are bad.
 
One decision that summed up the season for me so far.
The ball gets shifted late to the right in Laurie’s hands it’s a two on two but our centre and wingers are positioned outside the opposing numbers.
A) Laurie passes long instead of going to Roberts who is through the hole.
Ok
B) Roberts throws his hands in the air and gets disappointed and finishes his decoy run around the 20m line.
Meanwhile, Nofo takes the pass and manages to get between the front line and proceeds to the fullback.
At this stage Roberts although having a hissy fit is positioned in front of Nofa but in clear space.
C) instead of running towards the fullback and putting on an inside pass for Roberts, Nofa steps inside and gets hit by a defender eventually offloading to Lucy who runs about the same amount of meters to where James Roberts was standing in the beginning.

Sure Laurie should of played short to Roberts
However even though he didn’t we still had a 2nd chance to score a try.

Without the same rant as above the same can be said for when Nofo splits the defence on the drop out and gets tackled close to the line.

To make his run he runs past both Liddle and Tyrone Peachey whom were positioned infield and around the 15m mark.

In this sequence instead of staying in position and then becoming support players for Nofo both proceed to walk backwards over the 20m line. It isn’t until Nofo steps inside the fullback that they wake up and decide to run the other way.

I dont think we are getting worse. I actually feel we are seeing some small sparks as the season goes on, with the emphasis on small. I did not think for 1 minute we would win that game, or even go close, however I saw more commitment in defence than I seen for a long time. Roberts gave away 2 unnecessary penalties defending our line but at least he was trying to defend that line.
 
Yes apart from officiating our much bigger problem is attack note defence huge improvement this year but attack much worse .When we do make a break no one is there to back up .Key people responsible is coach and our famous 900k no 7

And thats the problem - there is no football smarts - these guys never see whats unfolding as they are too busy thinking about where they have to be for the next play.
