Hahaha!
That’s what I’m talking about.
I can’t remember when the ALP signed a trade agreement? Was it with Chile, back in 2012? Or there abouts. Worth what maybe $1.4m trade deficit?
Educate yourself tragic.
Chile was 2009. Malaysia was signed 2012. But what’s your point? The ALP hasn’t signed any FTAs since they went into opposition?

No thanks, I’m not interested in talking rubbish with you two. 🤪
I’m not rusted onto the LNP or ALP/Greens. I simply made the point that only one of those two parties gets the job done when it comes to increasing trade. When in government the ALP/Greens have a record of dropping the ball on this. This is not my opinion, it is historical fact.
Putting forward a rebuttal argument that the ALP/Greens can’t put a trade deal together because they’re not in government, displays as much immaturity as does calling another poster stupid. 😂
No thanks.

Only a government can make binding trade deals, when Labor was in power they made them likewise when the coalition are in power they make them. Its just the fact of life that the sitting government have the power to do it and the opposition have none in that regard. This also applies to all other binding deals with another country

With all due respect, I think Tragic and Yossarian know that. In fact if anyone in the country doesn’t know that then there is something very wrong with our education system. 😉

I’m still at a loss to understand what your original point was. These agreements are generally hammered out over many years by DFAT officers. Labor had Chile, ASEAN and Malaysia signed when they were last in government. Korea, Japan and China were well in chain by 2013.

There would be 3 main stages of a trade agreement. Initial proposal. Development. Contractual signing. My point is that ALP/Greens have been reluctant to work effectively in any of these key stages. The success that the LNP have had is remarkable given the unions have often instructed ALP members to vote against them.

Okay then. Well I disagree with your assessment. Coupling Labor and the Greens is hardly helpful to a serious, intelligent discussion. Nor are blanket assertions of how parties allegedly act. Also the idea that FTAs are, by default, always good is a rather simplistic assessment.

Yes, on the surface it would appear that the Chile FTA was a waste of time.

Well on that, the initial agreement for the agreement was made in 2006 when the LNP were in government. I don’t buy your insinuation that the agreement would have been more or less beneficial if the LNP were still in power during the negotiation and signing stages. Apparently bilateral trade is over a billion, substantially more than, for example, Peru.

Come in spinner 😂 I said “on the surface it would appear” and you make false assumptions that I’m being negative about your beloved ALP. 😂
It was set up for BHP.

Apparently we were all once covered, driving to and from work....

This all changed one day.

Being in a union has its perks such as travel insurance, which covers you whilst travelling to and from work....

I've been in a union for 10+ years and haven't used them once.

I use their discounts/rewards system though and like knowing I have that travel insurance.
