Alex Twal #206

Just on the offloads - he has 17 in his career (92 games). As a comparison Jarrod Wallace who can't make the Titans 17 had 35 last season.

I'm not sure if he has been told he isn't allowed to pass - it really makes him such an easy target for the other teams defence.

This!!!

He is an absolute target because he doesn't attempt 2nd phase play he gets zero support or runners off him so he becomes an easy target as the opposition also don't have to take an extra split second to look at defensive options.

Against the Warriors he had 2 runs which his arm was free he actually looked at another one of our players, motioned but held the ball.

Maybe it's the same as scoring tries - When he says "It's not my job"

I'd be interested in what else he thinks "Is not his job"
Winning I'd bet is one of them....

I think the bench rotation has been a bit negative tbh.
Once Madge is gone we will see the same players play better and harder, the 4 years of the same rubbish is doing no good for anyone
Injuries and a real lack of aggressive forwards doesn’t help. Zane needs to take some angry pills or something

Instead of getting stuck into players we should be encouraging them to improve their deficiencies. Twal definitely has a role to play in this club. We have been struggling defensively and you want to drop one of our best defensive players? I don't get it.

He's ineffective....
No matter how many tackles he makes - They have to hurt people.

I don't see anyone scared to run at him.

Does anyone remember when he first came on to the scene he had a brilliant offload and was far more assured and confident playing the ball and trying things out keeping the defence guessing....Am i making that up...?

Last few years we've seemed to castrate him and just use him as a ball carrier that just runs straight and nothing else...he barely bends the line or does anything of note any more.
He was good when he he first came in. But sometimes players plateau and don’t take the next step. He’s one of them

Woodsy came out and said it looks like the players are playing afraid to make mistakes.
Some of these players used to be better at their craft, under Madge they seem to have gone backwards, just like our spot at Round 26

At the current rate, Madge will def get us the spoon

Woods probably read that here. He was one of the catalysts forming the culture of non competitiveness and softcockery

One player who still looks like a first grader is Alex Twal. Just want to say thank you Twal for playing properly while the rest of the team collapses. Tackles well, runs with intent, rarely makes errors. Really good player and I always feel safer when he's on the field.

mmmhm dont know about that. Last year he was okay and if he plays like that you maintain him but this year he's been probably the worst forward in our team. Today 11 runs 72meters. As always he's defensively sound but offers nothing in attack, these days not even meters.

A big part of our problem is not being able to control ruck speed. Twal is a dominant tackler, usually able to control an attacking player and then put them on their backs for a slower play the ball. Most every other tackler on our team is messy, causing markers to not be square and defensive line to be on the back foot. It's ugly and frightening watching us tackle. Twal on the other hand tackles really well, you trust him. Tamou is a perfect contrast. He'll have lots of enthusiasm for the first 10 but his lateral movement is horrible and he reads plays badly so he always seems to be lunging and, despite his size, ends up in weak ineffectual tackles, often tackling very low around the legs, that has markers scrambling over themselves to get square.

I would love twal to run more and make more metres, but that's neither his role nor what he's best at. I'd still say he is one of few or only players on our team who actually performs his role well.

You need to look beyond run metres to judge a forward.

Unappreciated.

Does a lot of the clean up work.
Important piece of the defensive machine, a lot like Elijah Taylor was.

Needs to be unleashed from the coaching aspect as he has more to offer but always seems to be playing restricted.

Twal is bog average, a great reserve grade forward. He runs like a grandma and the word offload is not in his vocabulary. He can tackle wow, he is a bloody forward if he couldn't do that what could he do. Needs to be shipped off at the end of the year.
