Jackson Hastings #251

Im truly in shock of this bloke his leadership quality’s are top notch the way he puts the media in there place is so good to watch and way he keeps every 1 accountable is so good he is everthing we were hoping Adam doughi would be as a captain with them to in the side our future leadership is in great hands I hope they extend him for another 2 years very interesting to see how Madge fits doughi brooks and Hastings into the team

Locking a player down on a long term bargain contract does not usually work out if their value goes up. I don't know what the answer is, but it is a tough question.

Brooks has not been that great. He's been okay but let's not go crazy and say we've got an elite halves pairing haha. Hastings has been the man
 
I like the way Hastings nominated Brooks to kick the final field goal. He'd had two snaps and missed so rather than trying to hog a 'third time lucky' opportunity, he shared it with Brooks. To me that is an indication that he is both a leader and team player. Those kind of actions will help gel Hastings with Brooks and the team. His winning attitude is infectious.

Yeah, even if Brooks needs to be in the middle in defence. That said, it takes huge effort for a half to also take on that role later in a game and still contribute with the ball under the additional fatigue.

I am biased on this though, having called for Madden to be used from the bench for round one.

Hastings wise, we could see that his combination with Brooks was working in the storm game and the subsequent silly tackle in round two was very costly. They compliment each other, so it should be onwards and upwards from here.

Agreed, though the fact that Brooks told Hastings that he wanted the shot and act as his foil should also not be understated. The pair work as a combination, exactly as I hoped they would over the off-season.

They compliment each other well, And as an overall monetary value - They're on par with most clubs...
Both need to be extended for a couple more years on closer to market value for both.

I also wanted Madden to have some game time because decisions need to be made regarding his contract.
When Hastings was signed I was over the moon thinking he would be our footy playing 13, but as we have seen, nobody will replace him at 7, and like Brooks he is tough enough to give 100% for a full season. Is Madden patient enough ?

Durability and the ability to play with minor niggles is a very important attribute. Players that very rarely miss matches such as you named above bring extra value.

Also saw Hastings as an option for the 13, but he has taken the opportunity at half with both hands and whilst I prefer more variety from a lock, Joffa has done his job there thus far.

Let us see how Doueihi’s knee comeback goes and with the Peachey option thus far failing, maybe he can contribute there if WT have some fit centres.
 
Madden at hooker is a bad option, in my opinion he either starts in the halves or shouldn't be in the team. I don't get the ploy of keeping him on the bench, he doesn't offer speed or enough creativity to exploit a tired side off the bench. He seems more of an organising player which is why you start him or dont play him at all. As much as Peachy has been ordinary I'd still have him on the bench over Madden until Simpkin comes back.

Pressure from Souffs defense. He can pass, it's just his pass selection needs to be better, need to be in his ear to not be afraid to take the hit and just reset
