Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

I think if signed they would be holding off to see if we could get early but.... Now that we have picked up Naden maybe this year is out with no spots left.. If that's the case it would be good for the club to announce to fans.. I feel they have been a bit slack with updating fans the last 12 months in general.
I wouldn’t rule out the possibility of players being released to free up 1-2 more spots. Mikaele would have to be a chance if he’s gone next year anyway.

I think naden to covet centre so still think club keen to pick up this year for fullback cover.

The Tigers have all but lost giant prop Thomas Mikaele to English club Warrington for next season.

Wolves officials were at Magic Round last weekend and held talks with Mikaele's management.

The 24-year-old is off contract at season's end and the Tigers are keen to keep him.

Mikaele made his NRL debut for the club in 2019 and his best football is clearly still ahead of him.

But the Tigers will find it hard to match the three-year deal that Warrington has put to the Kiwi-born forward.

Warrington has been desperate to bolster its small pack for next season and has already signed one of the biggest men in the game - massive former Bulldogs prop Sam Kasiano from Catalan.
Can you lose something you’re giving away?

It is sad because we need more young players from the SW representing WTs. We have not engaged as well as we could with this area until recently with the new Pathways initiatives There is always room for improvement but imo the club will always represent Campbelltown/Macarthur region and the Inner-West. Let's get the COE built at Campbelltown similar to the one at Concord.
There bugger all kids from there representing anyone these days...
Next Crop will come again - Probably already has with the Matts winning the comp

Junior comps have hot years and cold years...
Works in cycles, Always has, Always will.

Hertherington I think would be an interesting prospect on an edge, he's fast and tough, give him time to work on his line running and get him to practice those suicide lines like Ellis and Lawrence use to run. He's got speed and cardio for a prop, not sure what his lateral defence is like and he would need to learn to control aggression, bit moving out of the middle might help him channel some aggression. I wouldn't pay him much, but we might be able to get him cheap, just a thought
We are chatting to him

You’re missing the point.
This isn’t a Wests - Balmain thing.
It’s an issue of identity
Playing a few games in the area every season isn't good enough to instil any local connection.

But playing none (All the other 15 Clubs) Is enough for the kids to identify / align with
another club?

He may have the opportunity to relocate with his family. The climate in South East Qld is very nice, it's more relaxed as well. I cannot blame him although disappointed at losing him.

Family - As in he has a missus and kids?
I can't see his parents and siblings uprooting and re-locating for him to be 150k for 3 years...

Surely he could get a deal in Aus ?
Lol, either way.... happy to move on from his contract.

"His best football is clearly ahead of him." ha ha. That's a nice way of putting it. Maybe if he actually tried and looked interested he could turn into a decent footballer. No great loss from what I have seen.

I think the grand plan is to move games to Leichhardt and Campbelltown 50/50. I believe the club appreciates the junior pathways and connection to the area argument and is trying to do something about it.

Prior to now, our finances had been terrible and we were forced to find income through stadium deals like ANZ and Bankwest.

With any luck, these suburban grounds will get an upgrade in the coming years.

As far as identity goes, Manly's feeder club is Blacktown. Melbourne have Sunshine Coast Falcons and Brisbane Tigers. Cronulla have the Newtown Jets and it goes on. We have a tighter affiliation to our reserves team than the ones mentioned in my humble opinion.
