Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

I understand that but we picked Papa up very cheap and I'm sure once here and he maintains his high playing standards we would look to extend and increase if needed.
But just because we snagged him cheap doesn't mean we will get more players cheap but the real balance for me is team morale. I think 750k for Angus would be max and other players would not be too concerned but anything over that might hurt some feelings..
Time will tell
600 isn't very cheap. But his form warrants.another 100k to be honest. We can upgrade end of next year if his form continues.

Yeah I'd offer 650-700k for Crichton. Take it or leave it

I wonder who else would be talking to Angus. I haven't heard of any other club talking to him, so maybe he will have to decide on taking a cut at the Roosters or taking up our offer?
The other option is Rugby and there is a World Cup coming soon

It’s only clubs like ours who believe remuneration for players extends to salary cap earnings in isolation.
Yeh.
Cobbo will have his 5 brothers and sisters plus his parents working at Red Hill.
We baulk at giving latrells fat brother a dev contract.
We have to compete just as hard off the field, behind the scenes.
Pascoes prob too shit scared now from the farah balls up to ever try again.

This should be Tamou's last year with us. He's playing alright for the moment but won't be able to maintain this level for another season. We can't count on him being effective week to week.

The extra roster spot is more valuable.
Yea its a tough one - we lose Mikaele leaving us with only Uto, Musgrove and Twal of the current FG props. Hard to say whether guys like Pole and Dias can make the step up next year. Ofahengaue could play prop but he has really cemented the no 13 at the moment. So unless we can sign another current FG prop i would keep Tamou for one more year.

People mentioning we need a few more signings but the way I see it we're looking pretty good for 2023 with the signings we have (if all fit and uninjured).

Ofanengaue has been great at lock. May need to replace Tamou but looks like we'll get one more year from him. Throw in Crichton and I think we're done.

2023 TEAM

1. Daine Laurie
2. David Nofoaluma
3. Adam Doueihi
4. Brent Naden
5. Ken Maumalo

6. Luke Brooks
7. Jackson Hastings

8. James Tamou
9. Api Korisou
10. Stefano Utoikamanu
11. Isaiah Papali'i
12. Angus Crichton
13. Joe Ofanengaue

14. Jake Simpkin
15. Alex Twal
16. Zane Musgrove
17. Alex Seyfarth

RESERVES BACKS: Jock Madden, Starford Toa, Jnr Tupou, Peachy, Kepaoa, Fa'amanu Brown, etc.

Maybe need one more big middle forward but on paper, this team isn't too shabby. Or am I missing something?
You missed Blore who will either slot in at 12 if we miss Crichton or at 17 in place of Seyfarth.

He's a Broncos fan and wants to develop his game with mates. Right decision to be honest.

Hel only be 22 next contract so hel make a Motza then
Regardless, my point is he won't be losing out on staying with the broncs.
Have a look at the leagues clubs in Brisbane and see how many ex broncos have jobs for life as development officers.
You don't think this was discussed when signing them?

There is a article in DT now about Bird and his contract with Dragons falling over... Apparently Tigers ready to pounce but they always add the word "Tigers" in articles for click bait.. Anyone have access to it who could post.
ack Bird is understood to be having second thoughts on committing his future to the Dragons with rival clubs aware of his unrest.

Bird’s management and the Dragons agreed to a new three-year deal two weeks ago after months of protracted negotiations.

But News Corp has learnt despite the contract being agreed to, Bird has yet to officially sign the deal.

It has led to rival clubs becoming aware of the situation with suggestions Bird may have cold feet about staying at the club.

Wests Tigers would become the front-runners to land Bird’s signature having had informal discussions with the former NSW star before he recommitted to the Dragons.

St George Illawarra officials are privately unconcerned about the development and remain confident the signature and official announcement will happen in due course. They have been given no indication that Bird is uneasy about remaining at the club and pointed to clashing schedules as to why no formal contract has been signed.

The deal was only secured when the Dragons upped their offer to keep Bird at the club. Bird was seeking a guaranteed three years but the two parties compromised with the Dragons offering two years with an option for a third season.

Talks dragged on with the Dragons eventually placing a deadline on the deal to be finalised. They happened well into the evening before terms were finally agreed.

The Tigers have also been reluctant about committing to three years for Bird. They have already some impressive recruits for next season with Isaiah Papali’I and Api Koroisau joining them in 2023

It is understood the Dragons guaranteed two years for Bird worth about $1.1 million with a mutual option for Bird and the club to commit for a third season. It was enough for Bird to take up the offer at the time.

Bird has re-established himself as an NRL player at the Dragons in the past 12 months following an injury ravaged three year stint at the Broncos where he played just 17 games. He played 22 games last year and has started in all but one match for the club this year.

Bird has played second-row, centre and five-eight already this season but is viewed as a back-rower at the Dragons. He played 80 minutes in the second-row in St George Illawarra’s 24-18 win against the Warriors on Saturday.

The Dragons are discussing if they will hand injured veteran Josh McGurire another deal with Tariq Sims already deciding to join Melbourne from next season.

I think Angus is worth more because of the fact he’s still an origin back rower , despite being down on form , and has been at this level for what 5 years ?
Paps was languishing on the bench for the warriors, got a prove it deal with the eels and has never looked back .
This is really only his second season at the top of the tree . And when he signed the deal he was signing off of 1 elite season .
It’s a bit of a steal , especially when you consider Luci is on 200k more than him next year .
Bad business by the eels in fairness . They really shat the bed with him , and offering unders at their dummy half .
Hodgson is a shell of himself , and it’s not getting any better .

In saying all that Angus has to be the preferred option .
