If Moses, Cleary, Munster, Cherry-Evans, even Hunt are all on $1M then I think something like $700k for a half like Brooks is the going rate. Compare that to what we paid Mbye and Reynolds it could even be considered a bargain.

Plus I reckon he could be open to an extension and renegotiate his pay to come back in line with that number for next year (plus say 2 more).

I'd love Doueihi as a strike right centre. Naden on the left (his preferred position). I think the powers that be are pulling together a balanced squad that could set us up for years to come.

Will Douhie want to play centre? I agree though. The balance is better with him at centre.

The only team currently in the top 8 that Brooks would make into in the 6 jumper is Brisbane and probably only a handful of other teams who aren't in the 8. At best he's probably the 11th or so best 5/8th in the league. Certainly not worth more than 500k. Plus he's reaching the back-end of his career - he is what he is and there's no more potential at this stage.

If Newcastle wanna pay half his salary, we're better off taking it. Of course no one wants to be paying players to play against them, but we shouldn't be cutting off our nose to spite our face either. There are more productive uses of Brooks' money and we shouldn't fall for the sunk-cost fallacy.

What I and others have already said - the downgrade (if at all) from Brooks to Madden/Doueihi is far less than the upgrade from a reserve grade level forward to a Crichton/Tapine, who we could afford with the savings of offloading Brooks.

Madden dug way into the line in attack and the chip and chase alone is something I’ve never seen Brooks do....ever!
I don’t mind brooks, he’s played pretty well the last month, but not we’ll enough ti block anyone coming through.
Madden was just as good as Hastings last night.
He deserves a contract for depth alone.

Rubbish , Hastings is way above madden , if he wasn’t there we would be a headlist chook . Let’s face it everyone is giving madden a gold pass only because they hate brooks and his pay cheque , it’s the clubs fault he is getting that money not brooks , and since he had moved to the 5/8 spot he has been terrific.

A few people rate him highly, would likely pick up our fullback position immediately. When Laurie is fit they'd battle it out with one of them going to reserves. Given our luck with injuries they'd both probably spend some time in firsts.

Either way we need a Fullback that averages like 200m a game and not 100-150m.
