I don’t think it should be a free-for-all.. like you i don’t want to see over population.
However a lot of businesses have been crippled not getting the labour they need to operate.
in too many cases, employers want to force the wages to stay at the same level, or preferably down!
At the same time, while they scream "we cannot find workers", their HR policy is not to employ unvaxxed, and elderly! So they have to change their HR policies first!

Compared to most countries, there isn’t a big difference between the two major parties anyway.
Agree. We are blessed to live in this country
One sways way to the Left and gets kicked out then they move back to the Centre while the other moves way to the Right and gets kicked out then they move back to the Centre again.
Just like a Merry-go-Round.

Ok, I’ll bite: Who has proposed that this is to occur or anything even remotely similar?
It's a simple statement, what part didn't you understand.
Our universities are full of overseas students but not many indigenous.
Our school teachers don't have the resources to teach indigenous children. In the cities it is not such an issue but in country and remote regions English is often not the spoken word.
What's been done, what are your suggestions to 'bridge the gap'
My statement is my gut feeling that more needs to be done and not forgotten or pushed aside.
In the election campaigns I didn't see enough from all parties to push indigenous affairs, some said little but not enough.
Anyway, I'm not going to comment anymore. The political topic is not for me...hot gas just like our politicians, not productive.

Nah I have a sneaking suspicion we are on the cusp of rapid interest rate rises and inflation and the ALP will be a one term government. I almost wanted them to lose this but I would prefer they implement as much climate policy as possible before they get tossed. Liberals will need to be actual liberals next time if they want to be elected. Centre to centre right is probably where 90% of this country sits.
I agree mate, I think we overestimate just how much control our government has, current rising interest rates, inflation etc are the result of global factors, I think the next few years will be very tough because of these global factors and Albo will cop the blame. Like you I hope they get cracking on climate action.

PS climate action can be good for our mining industry. There's more to mining than coal mining - renewable energy and electric cars depend on specific minerals and metals that Australia has in spades: nickel, cobalt, copper, lithium, rare earths, manganese...

I enquired as to who suggested we should (or would) look after migrants before our own - or was it just an unprompted comment completely unrelated to the discussion?

Yes America trying this now total division, kaos and economic ruin when you move to radical left ideology unfortunately... Joes policies are can anyone define a woman and when can we have our first pregnant man .just pray we are not that stupid

Congratulations on having the most irrational post in the politics thread.Biden is a long way from being radical left. What your comments show is that you are so far right wing it is scary

Funny you should mention the unvaxxed and elderly mate...I have been out of work for the last 6/7 months because I got terminated for not being vaxxed...The termination letter stated that "your work, knowledge and experience"was greatly appreciated and helped our business immensley, unfortunately you didnt comply to the Govt mandates and therefore we cant employ you any longer as we are implementing fully vaxxed to be in the premises,ie patrons and employees...
Im starting to get some jobs here and there but atm there isnt much available here...
I was also informed that the business paid me incorrectly for the 12 months I was there, they owe me back pay of something like $7/10 an hour for the period I was there...
Hopefully that will be forwarded before tax time and things should get better for me...
The hardest part for me was my medical history impacted my decision not to get vaxxed, they didnt care or consider that....

Support from Govt for an increase to the minimum wage to the Fair Work Commission.
Guaranteed continuation of the NDIS
Establishment of a Federal ICAC to investigate corruption, rorts and the pork
Greater representation of women in the democratic process
Strong financial support for continuation of Medicare and also superannuation
Policy shit to address the $1.2 trillion debt disaster
Policies to revitalise manufacturing in Australia
Increased grants to our Pacific neigbhours
Better relations with China.

A signficant policy shift from hard right to centre.
Just like that!

anybody who doesn’t think this is a good thing , and that we needed some more policies helping the day to day workers rather than big business , climate change and whatever are off their head .
Worldwide we have just come out of 5-7 years of absolute right wing lunatics running a fair chunk of western cultures. And the whole world needs a reset .
If we don’t change things around global warming , cost of living , equality and everyday way of life stuff , we are going to end up very much resembling dystopian movies like Elysium , Interstellar and whatever .
The 80s screwed with the boomers heads in a way we are all paying for right now .
Greed is not good . And the Covid policies we had in place that killed the economy were there to keep boomers alive .
And now they want the economy to still be catered for them .
It’s irritating beyond comprehension .
Literally the most selfish , entitled , generation to have ever existed. Thank god most countries are moving towards parties that actually care about the future , and hopefully we can fix the gigantic mess that’s been created these last 20 odd years of that generations control on the world .
Rant over !!!
PS . I’m not a 20 year old kid , this is a millennial 30-40 year old talking , who has a house and a good job . It doesn’t change how screwed up the world is right now !

What evidence do u have they care?
