Yeah fair point. When Dominic Perrottet and others are arguing we 'urgently' need half a million extra people a year I think it is crazy though.

anybody who doesn’t think this is a good thing , and that we needed some more policies helping the day to day workers rather than big business , climate change and whatever are off their head .
Worldwide we have just come out of 5-7 years of absolute right wing lunatics running a fair chunk of western cultures. And the whole world needs a reset .
If we don’t change things around global warming , cost of living , equality and everyday way of life stuff , we are going to end up very much resembling dystopian movies like Elysium , Interstellar and whatever .
The 80s screwed with the boomers heads in a way we are all paying for right now .
Greed is not good . And the Covid policies we had in place that killed the economy were there to keep boomers alive .
And now they want the economy to still be catered for them .
It’s irritating beyond comprehension .
Literally the most selfish , entitled , generation to have ever existed. Thank god most countries are moving towards parties that actually care about the future , and hopefully we can fix the gigantic mess that’s been created these last 20 odd years of that generations control on the world .

PS . I’m not a 20 year old kid , this is a millennial 30-40 year old talking , who has a house and a good job . It doesn’t change how screwed up the world is right now !

A shortage of workers is BS. I'm in business and there is only a shortage if one pays crap black money with no conditions. Businesses had it too good for decades with average unemployment at 6 to 7 % and people behind the door. My parents came here in the 50s and unemployment was sub 2% till mid 70s. After Nixon left gold standard and inflation went through roof workers chased indexation and were blamed for inflation, it was other way round.
Thatcher and Reagan were bought in to destroy the fabric of nations, that is the real middle class, not the landed class.
I believe the government should mandate the RBA to pursue an unemployment rate of 2% and inflation of 3% and including house prices in inflation number.
All other policy re immigration wage settings will work themselves out off that.

What are you talking about ? It’s not leftist politics that is the problem , It’s the fact everybody from every right wing party worldwide kicked the can down the road in regards to things like renewable energy , and cost of living etc , so they could buy their 5th house and maintain the wealth .
And now because economies worldwide are about to go into ruin and the planet is literally collapsing on itself , that the chickens are coming home to roost .
It’s not leftist politics , it’s people wanting their kids to have a future . You know kids ? The very meaning of why we are all here ? To provide a better future for the next generation .

I cannot tell you again as I didn't state that it was good policy and never have. In fact I have argued against parts of it in this thread.
Rather, was simply pointing to how that 3.9% figure came about and wanting the poster to compare apples with apples, rather than oranges and rhetoric.
Nah I have a sneaking suspicion we are on the cusp of rapid interest rate rises and inflation and the ALP will be a one term government. I almost wanted them to lose this but I would prefer they implement as much climate policy as possible before they get tossed. Liberals will need to be actual liberals next time if they want to be elected. Centre to centre right is probably where 90% of this country sits.

Probably, but if they're in it for the right reasons then they should be happy to wear that. If they can implement the framework for a long-term approach to climate change, introduce a federal integrity commission and make structural changes to aged care then they'll be making a massive difference as, off the back of last night, I can't see the Coalition going to the next election with a proposal to unpick those. They have the opportunity to actually make change rather than piss around desperately trying to cling to power. Let's see if they do it.

I heard analysts claim that whoever won this election would be belted at the next.
I also want climate policies, especially concerning the reef, but not at the expense of getting business roaring again. Big builders are falling off the perch for example.
