Societies rot from the inside. They preach equality and justice but can't apply it to their own and seek to and have been exporting their warped sense of justice under the name of "democracy ".

Checks and balances are purely academic. All nations need a mirror and a fence that's why a balanced world is a must with many poles.

Alternatives must exist if only to compare otherwise we won't even know what freedom and justice even looks like and will not have any recourse for salvation if a global leader goes off the rails.

Well said MM. A unipolar world and reliance on the west is what brings us here today. Embargos, commodity shortages, war, inflation, immigration issues etc.. For far too long the east (Russia / China) has been considered the boogeyman and demonised. The US are not the arbiters of justice or democracy, anybody with half a head could reason as to why. I hope we can take a step back a bit and consider re-building relations with our neighbours in the pacific and Asia. I would love nothing more than for us to be prosperous, we have a beautiful blend of people and a unique set of ideals as a nation that we should be working very hard to preserve and no longer taint...

Yes, those countries are definately not the answer for World peace,

But the US must do much better with their foreign relations which is currently at an all time low,

And peace begins on their own soil by taking better care of their citizens, because peace at home would then mean peace in the World,

And unless they find true peace at home by eliminating the high rate of poverty and mass shootings, then their version of justice and democracy would remain to be seen as not democracy but just Hypocricy.

The good old Texans are willing to ban abortion to “protect the unborn children “ yet once they are born they prefer to protect their right to possess an arsenal in their homes. The good guys with guns bs has already started and the poor children have not even been identified.
Tragically I doubt a damn thing will change and Americans will continue to see mass shootings and just go and buy more guns.

What a seriously sick society they have over there.....still living in Cowboy n Indian movies.
The power the Gun Lobby NRA has over politicians is just frightening and apparently so entrenched I cant ever see it being any different.
Our ex PM John Howard had the guts to stand up in front of a fairly hostile crowd and demand a change here in Australia and I applaud him for that.

I was working in Texas in 2008 and occasionally went to the local gun range. 9mm ammo was about 5c a round so you could hire a handgun and shoot 200 rounds for about $25. Bass Pro warehouse stocked every brand of bullet you could buy and the little boxes were piled to the roof. A few weeks before the elections, Fox news claimed that if Obama won he would ban gun ownership. Within days, you couldn't find a single round of 9mm ammo. Every lunatic with a gun went out and bought up every bullet that was available, millions of them, as well as any gun they could get their hands on.
It's too late to fix it. This has been going on since 1776.

Unfortunately the extreme right wing of politics in the USA supports the insane gun mentality in the country so realistic change is near impossible.They do not understand that the entire world views them with disgust because of their attitude.They are the richest country in the world but have one of the poorest attitudes to the care and well being of their own citizens

Abbott was a disgusting politician and a complete bully conversely his wife is a terrific woman and has all the good charecteristics he lacks.His achievement of being kicked out by a safe liberal seat by a talented independent woman was ignored by his party despite her getting the vote that they believe they own.Fast forward 3 years and other liberals in the same sort of seats got exactly the same treatment.The Liberals need to quickly move away from the far right of politics,Dutton will only hasten their demise despite what the Murdoch media tells them.

They can’t move away from Murdoch. The Libs got Google, Facebook et al to pay Murdoch.. all in the guise of redistribution of advertising revenue. Murdoch will forever be around the Libs neck.

Except for sport, of which there are very few participants, there is absolutely no reason for anyone in a metropolitan area to own firearm.

It is simplistic to blame one side of the political divide for the mess in America re weapons.
It doesn’t matter if you are white, black, brown, Asian or native, it doesn’t matter if you are male, female or whatever and it matters not whether your politics are red or blue…guns are everywhere and everyone either has them or has access to them.
