IMO Finucane is a bust; it's only going to get worse over 4 years. Moylan is a passenger. Hynes is a good footballer, yet to be seen if he can carry a team for a whole season.

McInnes tries hard but is not big enough or dynamic enough (has to be one or the other) to be a long-term lock.

Lots of injury concerns - e.g. lack of depth in the centres with Ramien down, having to play Connor Tracey and Talakai. They are still fielding Tolman, Fifita and Wade Graham who are all very well past their best.

They are comfortably a better side than the Tigers but I think they are a country mile of the top couple of sides, and I think their 2022 draw has flattered them. Like I said - 1 win from 4 attempts against Top 8 sides, plus two losses to Canberra inside 12 rounds.

I watch Sharks very closely every week because a mate of mine is a mad Sharks supporter. He is not overly optimistic that Sharks are going to the next level.
I was agreeing with you - I look at all the other squads, and look at ours - compared with results, I honestly can’t see how anyone is surprised!!

@batboy yeah playing for Souths, a better team and challenged the Grand Final - he was out for ages with an elbow too if my memory serves me correct.. Anyway take a look at Newcastle they have superstar player Kaylyn Ponga, origin players safiti twins, Daine Gagai, fringey in Badman Best, Klemmer Ex rep They have one more win than us, O'Brien isn't a good coach

Really, they were shot with those players and others more on their prime like Klemmer and Frizzel and the coach before as well…
As well as with all the money and players that Bennett bought with him - we’re shit then too…

Why? Because the joints broken… ain’t no one fixed it yet - Bennett quit rather than try to fix it (still building clubs 10 years on)

I don’t think people have realised how Hastings operates yet, he’s a tyre pumper. He pumps the tyres of team mates and coach to try and get the best out of them. He’s always been confident over confident and he is trying to spread that around like a culture if you will.
Having said that I don’t think he’ll be following around Madge for the rest of his career like a dog ala Benett and Boyd. Yes I’m sure he appreciates the opportunity but that came from the club in collaboration with Madge not solely due to Madge.
Yes if Madge goes I’m sure he’ll be disappointed I doubt very much he’ll down tools or request a release, he may even sign an extension who knows.
I think people do.
I think the team does also.
How bloody sad is it that you need to rely on one particular player to spend all his energy directing these professionals on the field.
We failed with Brooks at Halfback because he doesn’t do what Hastings does at the Tigers.
Can I ask if you’ve noticed any other player in the other team, directing and touching the ball as much as Hastings.
We have the DUMBEST forward pack in the comp. But they could make up for it with effort but yet when challenged they fold.
Anyway I’d prefer to have a team full of players whom don’t rely on an infield coach to get motivation and direction.
As I mentioned they are professionals. Been playing the game since under 6’s, shouldn’t they know where and when to run the lines required by now?

I'll give you Ben Hunt and Sims,
Others haven't been selected for origin in years, most been out for a while/have had injuries: Jaydn Su'a, Jack Bird and sex pest DeBelin missed a whole year. It's Griffens first year mind you.. He got rid of a few players and has bought shrewdly too, this is my opinion anyway.
2nd year.

Madge thinks we're a trophy team like Souths and Wigan where we could just crash & bash, play a possession/high completion game - run 4 times and bomb on the 5th, he hasn't got with the times or evolved his coaching style. This is largely his team too It must be said...brooks stifled rhythm of the pack on the weekend I felt. I Would have ran him on the bench with Madden starting.

Edit: we were headless at hooker too

Yeah true, on his 2nd Madge on 4th, that's why they have double the wins, but who knows .. 😆

No not to the extent Hastings has had to do, it’s probably more to do with the fact we’ve been running around rudderless for god knows how long. The stats don’t lie Hastings touches the ball more often than all other halves in the comp for some weeks now.
I think we would get much more out of him if others could shoulder the responsibility, Jacko wasn’t great he had an off night. But the other option did absolutely nothing kicked out on the full twice and he’s probably on twice the coin.

I understand what your trying to say. But I have a concern that to get our two big wins, it took one player to lift the players.
Once that player is out of action or not in form the team falls apart. What happened to everyone in team being clued into what’s necessary to get the job done.
I can’t remember what game I watched but it was a lower table team but in the middle third I saw the props beside the play the ball directing the outside runners to be ready for a tip on or to run support. I don’t think I’ve even seen our forwards look at each other in attack.
Now with Saviour Hastings in the side everyone can clock off even more so and tune in and out of games when it suits them.

Yes headless at hooker.
Still I don’t think a one dimensional game plan stops the forwards from being able to think effectively.
And defence is where I’m directing most of the criticism. Garner is probably our most switched on forward but it’s a shame he has basically the frame of Sam Walker. If you put his head on Lulias body you’d get a competent back rower.

Exactly - who knows…
But you can’t deny they have developed a close relationship - very quickly…
Some personalities are drawn to each other, but if Madge has gone - Jacko won’t be short of other options… without the relationship with the coach to consider, he may well explore those options more so than if the coach was here… then he leaves - and takes the air out of everyone’s tires with him
Maguire and Hastings may have developed a close relationship. Hastings may also have a close relationship with Sheens. Hastings still has at least another season at WTs so he won't be departing in the short term. Speculation about where Hastings will end up is just that and should not be a consideration in moving Maguire on.

What I believe will happen is they will sack Madge; Hastings, Api, Papali, Douehi some others will leave, or get out of their contracts and we will end up with Paul Green as coach. We will have Brooks and Madden in the halves, Nofo on one wing and finish 10th for the next two years then 15th after that, then we will sack the coach again and start all over. Great times.

Good squads make good coaches it's that simple. Our current squad compared to most they face is just not good enough. In a physically demanding competition try as they might there was always going to be games when they get exposed. Its happened to most teams other than Penrith who are pretty much injury free and superior to all.
The irony of Sheens being the decision maker when it all started with him moving on good club men to buy Adam Blair at a time when players loved the club and we had a healthy junior system - and changed the fabric of who we were.
Do "players sack coaches" Mr Sheens. We will see.
