Most of the news surrounding Madge is guess work. Sheens is doing the review and the board will act on his decision. Sheens hasn't given any indication on what he is thinking and will talk to some of the senior players and staff this week i believe. It seems as though the push by some to get rid of Madge is less to do with an anti-Madge agenda but more to do with getting a high profile target while they can (while they're available).

There has been some chatter that Ciraldo is much more interested in the Tigers than he was previously. He is particularly impressed with the young guns coming through from last seasons Jersey Flegg squad and from the Wests side of things this season. Add in the Penrith connection with guys like Api, Blore and Daine specifically who he has worked with in the first grade and 20s team over there. Gus wanted Ciraldo desperately but Ciraldo told him that he was not interested.

Sheens also holds Kristian Woolf in high regard and would be right up there with Ciraldo.
Apparently Ciraldo has re-signed a 12month contract, with a get out clause should he find another job.

Don't get the Ciraldo hype, he has been in charge of one of the strongest junior sides of the most recent era, a monkey could get them to perform. He then had a brief reign before Ivan took over with again a bloody handy team. He may do well but lets not get too carried away with the bloke until he works with some of the reserve graders and journey men that we have and delivers.

I get the Hype, Do I fully believe it? kinda.

The problem with Coaching is it's a coaching puzzle. Haslier, Bellamy and even Bennett have focus areas of the game, they know what they are good at and they know where they need to get help.

Ciraldo is the defensive coach for Penrith. He gets their defense and can probably coach it. Will our attacking structures improve under Ciraldo, NO! Hopefully though Sheens breaks out the attack playbook with whomever the new attack coach is, we should be seeing awesome set plays coming out of our coaches.

Madge was meant to:
restore order - yesish
Instill defence - no.
train grit, trains our team hard but were still not gritty.
help our attacking structures. Our attack improved but only because we imported Hastings.

Were ready for either an upcoming coach to be a junior coach here for a year then take the reigns OR for a full cleanout. My option is that we tap Cooper Cronk.

If Madge goes I can only see one coach who could turn us around and also bring in a few players , I feel he is not popular with some but I want results now , it’s been to long since we played semis , I don’t care about the past , Flanno is the only guy available that I feel may make a difference , Green had a strong team , so he is out ,
Ceraldo won’t take the job in case it cruel him
Flanno would be the most determined coach we ever had to get us going , my concern mostly is with our decision makers , a mid season review after end of season review , this better be the time for correct calls as the last review did nothing

The way to go.

Not sure what the last review revealed, however, there were sackings and Madge survived.
I assume some goals were agreed upon during the review process, which were kept in the secret vault. They’ll probably dust them off and revisit those goals to see if we’re going forward, reversing, or stagnating.
I love that the club is having regular reviews.
I don’t like that some of the details aren’t revealed for public discussion. Also not happy about the review process continually becoming a platform for sackings, it should be a tool for development and progress toward goals and seen that way by players at other clubs.
Surely the board can see if they sack the coach, it will have a negative effect on recruitment.
I wonder if this review announcement was a partial reason for our flat 2nd half performance against bunnies?
But Lee assures us that nothing he or Justin do has any affect whatsoever with on field performance. So I guess I’ve answered my own question?

The bench rotation has been mentioned a couple of times on here. I think that is the sort of thing that should be escalated to Madge and the coaching staff.

It's not that simple because there may be more to it but at least a clear issue gets raised.

I don't care if we sack Madge. I honestly don't care who gets sacked. We are such a dud club we need to improve.

My only concern is are we improving via sacking Madge. I'd rather let his contract expire and we don't re-sign him if performances don't improve simply because I don't think Madge himself is an issue.

I said at some point I have a friend who works with the team. He likes Madge. I spoke to him yesterday and he said one of the frustrating things is they train really well but sometimes they don't put it on the park.

Ciraldo is not a fraud. I can speak with some fact on that, but wont go into detail.

Ciraldo will not be coming here. Of that I am 95% certain. He will be waiting for as long as it takes, and may even pop up at the Storm in a year or two. You heard it here first.
That makes sense, but wouldn't someone like Riles be in the front running for that job, given that he has served under Bellamy?

The hype actually stems by the fact he like Payton he hasn't just been an assistant coach, he is more focussed on pathways & junior development as a coach 1st then an assistant. He has applied his trade as a coach 1st then assistant for 8yrs.

He has actually been very heavily involved in the Panthers pathways for 8yrs and a big reason why the frameworks & success has formed. He coached the Panthers under 20s and was a winner, before then they didn't win. He has then been apart of various roles with the NRL side which has done very well in each role. He has also been pivotal in roster management within the lower grades also for longer term security with the Panthers. He has alot more on his CV than most 1st time NRL coaches have in their lifetime.

Sure you can say anyone who coaches the Panthers team would be a winner but cmon they have been on top now in the lower grades since he took control for 8yrs well before success at NRL level the last 2yrs.

Alot of the other coaches that come from under Bennett, Bellmey or Robinson are assistants only they never have been actual coaches hence why they struggle.

People call out Barrett with the same brush & go no. But a massive difference is Barrett never coached before accepting a role, he then went back as an assistant then back to coaching. He never actually got to apply his trade before accepting a coaching role.

If Madge goes whoever replaces them isn't going to have an easy job by any stretch but they will for once come in with a blank canvas to work from. Maybe having a coach with a large junior pathways/development background could actually work for us. We brand ourseleves on that lens and let Ciraldo do what he has done extremely well at the panthers with a massive focus on youth policy. Time and a Place opportunity perhaps.

I wouldn't be upset or meh if Ciraldo came and replaced Madge, Flanno/Wolf or some other names I look at and just see like for like or worse. But if Madge goes I wouldn't let him go unless we had a commitment from an impending coach before hand. We need to keep things out of the media as much as we can and make the decision/appointment swift.

360 reporting were after Ciraldo.

Braith said Tigers are a more likely destination than Dogs.

Sheens said our juniours coming through are the best he's seen in 20 years.

Ciraldo talking to Panthers about extending but he may take a job elsewhere if it's the right gig.
If a change is required, this is the only outcome I'd be happy with.

It was the board that gave Madge a 2 year extension so if they sack him a quarter of the way into the contract and pay him for not coaching, then isn’t that what they’ve been doing for a decade?
We’re always hearing they train well but can’t put it together on game day. I was great in the gym landing every punch, but missing quite a few in the ring 😂

very good post!

I'm with you, but is Ciraldo just an overhyped version of Barrett, the guy who was supposed to turn around the Bulldogs attack, yet failed badly
Yeh, that was a little embarrassing. The best attacking coach in the game with the lowest number of tries scored. 🤔
