Michael Maguire leaves club

I think there is a purpose to Slater at Origin.

I think the benefit of giving Slater a go here or any well known past player especially recently retired great player may be in helping recruit top quality talent.

I also think that has a very limited shelf life. So Slater comes here and with spending top dollar he might be able to jag a decent player or two. That window would only be for a season or two at best though.

It's not a good way to build your club.

I really think the Tigers need good juniors coming though. I think our recruitment has been pretty good. Our retention hasn't been good but it's hard. Aloiai for instance is a gun middle forward. Luc is a gun edge forward. The problem with these players is you have to pay top dollar to keep them. Melbourne lose players of that caliber all the time and they just replace them with another player of the production line.

I don't see changing the coach as improving the team significantly.

You just can’t compare Melbourne and WT.

If we accept the proposition that he’s gone ( which I am not convinced is the best course) which is likely:

I’m not sure Slater and co are proven.

Maybe Tim slides into the role as an interim measure or one of the assistants is promoted or we have two coaches.

Now for some controversy!

And i appreciate he struggled badly with the broncos, but seibold did a great job lifting the bunnies post-Madge. Virtually the same side Madge couldn’t get excited, seibold got them straight into the finals.

So love him or hate him, he has a proven track record of post Madge recovery.

And I think it’s more or less accepted as fact that at the broncos he was white anted by officials and players from day one. He said he wasn’t told about this before he signed.

Maybe hes parachuted in for the rest of the year.

My friend @stryker 69 -he would probably reach out to Toovey but he’s skeptical that there isn’t a lot more to fix under the hood at club and official levels and he’s more than frustrated by player flake out. He’s the one screaming at the Telly pointing at the massive gap on the right side when we studiously go left!

Morris might be worth a shot as did quite well at the sharks.

Paul Green, Neil Henry etc, a few old boys might be the go instead of an origin candy store popper.

But like everyone else, I’m boxing in the dark.

We won’t know who is the best coach until he’s actually given the he job because it is a very hard job. Well paid and people love it, but it’s not for everyone.

Nope sorry . Nathan brown was already the st George coach before he went , and returned ,same thing for Steve price . Potter had moderate success no where near the level of Woolfe or Madge or Robinson .
And who did terry matterson coach ? Wasn’t that like 25 years ago ? Hardly applicable .
The list is few and far between of guys who dominated that comp and returned here .
I’m not talking about guys who coached in both .
I have a recollection of Matterson coaching Rangi Chase at Cas and them going Okish...
Rangi is still playing - So it can't have been that far back.

I said there's coaches that have had success over there have come back here and not done much... All the guys I mentioned fall into that category!!
Woolfe didn't exactly kill it coaching Townville ressies either outside that 1 year.

Do Magpies juniors have a strong enough affiliation with Wests Tigers? Or do they see their career opportunity as having to wear a different jersey, and therefor when a more successful club comes calling the decision is a lot easier because they are conditioned to one day leave their club.

Even if QLD win, its no reflection on Slater as a coach. First of all, at that level, it’s man management. Secondly, he’s coaching 6 weeks out of the year with all of QLD to choose from. Very different to coaching a mediocre club in the week to week grind of the NRL.
Mal Meninga says hello.

Exactly gnr, Meningas nrl coaching stat's at the raiders are very ordinary, a qld team full of champions his stat's are completely opposite, does anyone really think that qld era was because of Meningas coaching???
We could've coached that champion team and got the same results.

I have had a good think about punting our coach and thought Flanno would be the guy to replace Madge , but like most on hear I’m not sure punting him is the go , I would like to see him coach us with API and Papi in the team along with a few new recruits, maybe he is just like most , if your team is mostly rubbish you won’t win , but having a 70/30 split of solid players and some average changes everything , Madge is probably 50/50 at best , adding those other guys we have signed plus a couple more , 1 good Prop , 1 Good Centre , 1 Good backrower Madge may look like a champion coach and we are in the top 6

I wonder if we can get Jakob Arthur here, then make Brad Arthur do an Ivan Cleary on Eels.

Or sign the Walker brothers then get Sam Walker to do an Ivan Cleary.

Don’t bother with that clown, mate. He’s a pathetic sycophant when it comes to the playing group. Literally apologised on this forum to players because he didn’t list them amongst his list of best players. Absolutely pathetic.
Not to mention he literally lies and becomes obtuse when you call him out on it.

Nathan Brown put on notice at the Warriors, very timely considering the talk around Madge. I wouldn't be surprised if they made a play for him.
I was thinking that too. Considering Madge is the Kiwi coach, he may know more about the Kiwi Juniors as well.

Mate Paws is entitled to his opinion as we all are,the thing I dont like is he and others are willing to throw Madge out the door without reflecting on what Madge walked in to when taking the job,Madge fully knew the situation but still hammered away at changing the culture, attitude and work ethics amongst the players, obviously some didnt like change or leave their comfort zone....
The ladder position doesnt worry me as much as others,I know that it takes years to mould an NRL team to become a consistent top 8 performer...
The cap mess, overpaid players with little input and limited depth has made it all the more difficult to reach the goal..this year the injuries have taken its toll on working ourway to the top 8...
To be fair to Madge,if the suspension to Jacko and numerous injuries to key top 17 players hadnt come along I honestly think we could easily be sitting 6 or 7 from 12..
But thats NRL,so I dont blame Madge for all the despair...I still support him in what he is trying to achieve at our Club....

This is too important to get wrong and if there is no solid plan to Get a Gun Coach then we look like unprofessional again.

I think most players would prefer to stay at their junior club but they also want a chance and dollars.
