Wests Tigers Coaches

24 players have made their WT debut since the last player debuted for WT after coming through the WT pathways system.

1 of the last 48 players to make their club debut for WT came through the WT pathways system from junior reps to NRL.

Thats how bad it has been lately with our pathways. They have been completely ignored.

The situation was identified and a new effort and structure put in place.

Hired Matthew Betsey as the new Head of Pathways who joins the club after a successful stint as the Coaching and Development Manager at Cricket Australia.

Hired Brett Kimmorley as pathways coach.

Existing pathways systems improved and expanded.

A new focus on giving the kids a direct path to NRL. A step away from buying journeymen at over infalted odds. Doing our best not to lose the ones we want to keep by this more professional and serious approach.

Sacking a coach who they/Sheens saw as not the ideal guy to bring the next crop of youngsters through.

An emphasis on recruiting a development coach to take care of, improve and get the best out future home grown talent.

These are just a few bullet points highlighting how we have addressed the issue and have put all our eggs in to finding and developing the next lot of kids coming through. Its not everything but its enough to get the picture.
Excellent post.

Fair enough. I've just got a bit of a bugbear about people with prominent roles inside clubs, especially ones which involve the actual running and recruitment, having influential positions in the media at the same time. I think its a conflict of interest and very hard for them to remain impartial. Again, a very pessimistic view.
I get it
Where does it stop?

Ennis commentating on games for the club he works for,
Anasta gets every Roosters game
Cronk on the QRL Board
Smith, JT on 9 last night...

It's out of control...

Anybody not playing first grade . I’m not saying they should be, just there’s a chance , that some might have been not that great because they felt they were no chance at first grade .
It should give people hope. Even if it’s false hope .
Thanks for clarifying. I’ve read it literally rather than in the hypothetical sense ☺️

This just reeks of when Taylor was sacked and everyone thought we’d never look back. This looks to be another false dawn.

I have a sneaky feeling it is a flip of a coin between Woolfe or Ciraldo.
Woolfe has benefits of coaching personalities down on confidence and uniting them to rise against the odds.
Ciraldo has the benefit of some of the Panthers pathways and being able to take the current systems and inject them into our team.
As good as Ciraldo could be I’m just not confident this is as simple as the Cowboys job or the Sharks job.
I'm basing my thoughts only from what you have written here @Needaname
but to me it sounds like Woolfe is the one.

I still can’t get my head around Ciraldo as our first grade coach AND developing our juniors through our pathways system.

Tamou said Ciraldo had a big influence on a lot of current first graders as they came through the grades at Penrith - but he wasn’t the Penrith head coach either.

The only sense I can make of it is that a development coach like Ciraldo would be willing to give young guys a chance at first grade when they were ready but also stick with them even after a couple of ordinary games.

Last year Madge picked Cini on the wing at Wollongong and he played ok. The next game Cini made a few costly errors and we never saw him again. This year in the trials Madge picked Dillon who held his own but is currently playing Ron Massey cup.

Idk why people think we’re even a chance of getting Ciraldo, given his close ties to Gus. As if Gus wouldn’t have head hunted him.

There's a lesson in all of this. The incoming coach needs to demand a 5 year contract and what ever you do, don't ask for an extension. Every coach in Wests Tigers' history who has been given an extension has been shown the door within 18 months.

To me it just shows how far removed from reality our management is.Bellamy could not get our current roster to the top 8.It is completely delusional
Bellamy would be my definite no. 1 choice and the only choice to get WT to a Premiership before I fall off the perch 🙃 🤣 @jadtiger with our current assistant coach [is it Andrew Webster?] staying in that spot under Bellamy.
Only problem is Bellyache has just recently signed a 1 year ext with the Storm.
So,,,,,,,unless WT have been able to get Billy Slater which I doubt very much, my choice has to be Shane Flanagan with Andrew Webster or Ciraldo as his Assistant.
As far as Flanagan being a drug coach prev., I'm positive that will not be allowed to happen again and everyone should be entitled to a 2nd chance.

The fact that we've leaked our negotiations again puts risk on this deal happening.

No one knows who's coaching the Dogs or Warriors next year, but it seems common knowledge we're going after Ciraldo.

Last time we went up against Gus for a coach we lost even though we had said coach contracted. Supposedly it wasn't Gus that approached him, but he was there at the time.
