Yes, what makes a good coach? Surround him with good players and support him with a great front office

Maguire was "proven". 3.5 years of disaster.Ciraldo is totally unproven. Hasn't even coached state cup. Yes, he may pay off to be a good coach, but Penrith will be no real barometer of his ability due to the insane amount of talent they have. I mean they turned Cleary from a coach who couldn't even make the eight here into a premiership winner. Any other coach would have taken Penrith to that premiership last year. A gold standard example of the players making the coach rather than the other way around.
Mystery prop coach in the form of Curtis RonaGood morning fellow forumers, and ladies.
What tasty tidbits of rugby league rumours are we going to throw around today.
I'm keen for anything whacky, entertaining and of course our usual expert opinions.

Agree, coaches are not that much different to players, in that you don’t really know how good they are until you see them under pressure.Ciraldo is totally unproven. Hasn't even coached state cup. But is it 12 games. Say for instance we do sign Morris do you think south’s will say stick aroundNoddy was given the team for 12 games.

I think James Tamou was on to something when he mentioned the science behind the inverted U curve.
I realise it’s only bs pr that we hear every time a key person is shown the door. When you peel away the layers of bs what you find is a consistent story. The failures lay square at the feet of the sacked key person and we’re trumpeting in a new era, a new way to do things, a new direction.This.
It’s virtually impossible to make an accurate prediction as to the success of the new coach.
Madge had all of the qualifications in the world, but could only get the side to their optimum rarely.
All we can do is speculate that a certain coach may be able to twist the players tail and raise them to optimum. And as JT said, so many as possible up on the day and that takes group and individual focused effort.
Then the issue of consistency.
Perhaps true also that in the whole of the NRL there is a chunk of players whose bad or ordinary game is on par with a factory or good to fair game by many of our players.
We are in dire need for quality personnel who play hard and well every week.

The way things are looking at the moment hobbo, reckon a fair few supporters would be happy with 10, we look lightyears away atm. It won't take much just seems really far away thoughPretty much …
3 years sheens said ..
It’ll be more like 10 😂
You can be down on the club, that is your prerogative. I chose to take a positive view because the COE, the junior initiatives, the appointment of staff for the Pathways, the new COE at UWS, the appointment of Sheens to oversee football ops and guide the Board, the performance of our Wests HM and Balmain SG Balll teams and importantly the appointment of a new coach provides supporters with much to be happy about. I hope the new coach is John Morris and have been consistent about this all the way through.Yeah, so what should a club do after 11 years of failure, chance their arm on someone who they don't even know if they have it at the lower levels to start with.
That's a very Wests Tigers move...
I'm sure I'm not the only one to say here that all I care about is our roster.Yeah, so what should a club do after 11 years of failure, chance their arm on someone who they don't even know if they have it at the lower levels to start with.

It’s just such a pathetic position to be in after 11 years of no finals to come out and admit you are still 3-5 years away. Sheens probably doesn’t care and probably thinks “none of what has happened the last decade is on me because i wasn’t here”.Yeah, so what should a club do after 11 years of failure, chance their arm on someone who they don't even know if they have it at the lower levels to start with.

Unfortunately you aren’t going to attract those players with a John Morris type coach. He‘d need 2 or 3 seasons of consistent finals before he can even make a dent in the player market imo.I'm sure I'm not the only one to say here that all I care about is our roster.
If we got 3 top notch forwards in the class of Tapine and another back in the mold of Manu, then I wouldn't care if the coach was Morris or whoever.
There's still no guarantee with the appointment of a "new coach". I think someone said it already we are a club that kills coach's careers. You can be down on the club, that is your prerogative. Off field, the club is doing well which is reflected in increased allocation to the football dept.

So what, he wasn't first choice anyway.Imagine if Flano said no.

I can’t be too hard on Maguire after what he endured. He may have been blunt with some, but overall It was obvious the players wanted him as coach.
Ciraldo apparently changed his mind because there was still a lot of work to do with our roster. I think we’ll run with Noddy , then have another shot at landing Ciraldo for 24. To be ready, we will need more than the usual turnover number of players.
Wouldn’t give CC another sniff at the job personally, prima donnaI realise it’s only bs pr that we hear every time a key person is shown the door. But imagine if the Walker Brothers said NO!
