Luke Brooks - Mega Thread

If I'm Luke's manager as soon as I heard he was getting dropped during a bye round lol, I'm on the phone to the CEO, Chair or Head of football and find out who is responsible.
First question.. what the hell are you doing??
The decision is making everyone's job harder and upping WT cost of Brooksy moving on.
Bennett and Dolphins will not pay a premium for a reserve grader.
Getting him back on the park and in his best position so he can do his job and I can do mine and bring your cost down!
Honestly this club is being run by people who would surely be better at something else.

Who cares. It's not our problem. The only way it would make a difference is if we were over the cap for next season or we were bringing in a marquee player for next season. If either of those things were realistically going to happen then I'd agree with you but I can't see it.

Play him in reserves if that is the right thing for the club.

The only one who really suffers is Brooks because it lowers his chances of getting a contract for the following season.

The real dilemma facing Brooksy
Its true if you want to believe it, it’s not the money. He is facing a best case worst case scenario . why, #1 he leaves and we make the semis #2 he stays we don’t . May the force be with you Luke, take the better offer .

I’m not very strong at math, had to leave school soon after turning 14, to get a job and support my mother and younger siblings.
If Brooks is dropped or shunted to the forwards he becomes less attractive, and therefore his value declines.
If the club wants to move him on they should be finding a way to make him more attractive, so that his manager can realistically ask a high price, and the club can if they want to sell his contract. By dropping him, I would estimate the club could lose perhaps $200k, or be stuck with Brooksy until his contract expires?

You don’t need to be good at math to have common sense. It’s footy not rocket science.
Kudos to you for having your family as your priority.

He is on big money next year so we will be paying 500k+ for him to play elsewhere. It's worth the burden.

I don't think it is - When you consider we'll have to pay 2-300 to replace him in the squad.
Better to just keep him for the pissy amount of savings...

The other upside - The longer we hold, The more desperate he may get or a suitor might get...
Improves our sell price...

However, I would suggest we'll be front loading him most of that contract this year and selling him for a clean sheet next... We had money to spare this year and we've sold players on top - More money to spend that we don't look to be spending.

I still don't think we need to be in a rush to sell him though.... Or front load him.
Would rather front load someone who's definitely gonna be here...

Oh, I think the club would rather pay $500k than $700k.
I don’t know why they think they’re clever by leaking he will be dropped. Did they suddenly realise they made a mistake and undropped him, thereby infuriating Doueihi?
This is the sort of behaviour you see in an organisation which has no clearly defined positional responsibilities.

You are right but he only has one more year left. He can't affect our cap post next season so let's just write it off and make the best decision for the club going forward.

There is a concept in economics called sunk cost. The idea is that you've already spent the money with the key point being to forget about that cost and just make the best decision going forward.

Just say we lose $200k in next seasons cap for arguments sake. I think that money is well spend it we can say well Doueihi and Hastings are worth sticking with for another couple of years or we need to go to market and buy better halves. We basically know that Brooks isn't going to be here post next season.

Not the best business strategy....
- Still need a back up half in the squad....
- They still cost money....
- Probably not much change out of 300k

So it's cold 200k Loss + the 300k replacement.
Then there's the issue of finding a suitable replacement that's happy to play ressies,
and if the issue of weather the replacement is as good or better.

If it costs us anything - Best business is to keep him.
We won't replace the position or the calibre of player for the money it will cost us.
And he's already here.

There's absolutely no point.

The problem with that is you could possibly move Brooks but i doubt if you can move the leakers on the board they are quite possibly untouchable by the constitution of Wests Leagues.
That’s the reason we’ll always flounder around trying to get out of our own way.

I love that we're bickering over who gets a start over the likes of Doueihi, Hastings and Brooks....
They're all off contract the exact same time as Munster - Why TF aren't we going for him???

Would certainly end this crap.
Because we live in the real world and know that won’t happen.

Abso-bloody-lutely make a play for him.
He'll want to come to us considering we'll make the playoffs next year with a host of new talent. 🤔
