Luke Brooks - Mega Thread

He set up two tries and put in some good kicks.

The problem with his detractors is that they don't see any of the good stuff he does.

I've already stated how poor his option taking at critical times is.

In all seriousness can anyone justify picking Hastings and Doueihi ahead of Brooks. I think they can overrated due to Brooks continual dud plays at critical times.
Can you tell me what good kicks, i saw 1 in first half we were attacking on parra's 10 straight into a eel who took it to the 20 from there eels scored, well done brooks, he also kicked one out on the full with 1 & a half minutes to go, it was well out, and i saw him kick for line after tiges got penalties, so what good kicking are you referring to‽??????

Doueihi, Joe O, toa, Laurie, Simpkin, garner, Madden, Naden all have better instincts and read game better than Brooks. I'd look at them before playing Brooks.

Go and rewatch the game. He put in heaps of good kicks. He was our no 1 kicker. I can think of 1 kick that was a dud and that was at the end of the game trying to win it.

The bad option that he took when he didn't get that kick off was atrocious. I can't defend that. It was diabolical.

Seriously - go and rewatch the game. I'm no Brooks lover.

He sets up lots of tries...when the games are already lost.

He completely botches all the key moments when the games are in the balance.

And I have been a Brooks fan since Holy Cross, but he can't do it mate. Not when it counts.

Me too, I still like Brooks. He's doing his best, I don't blame him personally. It's just not good enough. Can't read game and can't execute.

His two try assists were simple catch and pass.
Hastings was the one who saw the space.

I completely agree. When it counts he stuffs up. I get it. I've been watching him for years. I've been stating make Hastings 7 and Doueihi 6 all season.

I don't agree with these comments because they aren't fair. Hastings definitely read the play but so did Brooks and Brooks has the speed and passing ability to make those plays.

The problem with Brooks isn't that he is terrible. The problem is at key times in the game he comes up with dud options.

The problem is that if Brooks had been first receiver he would have turned a hospital pass inside so some random forward could get smashed.

Doueihi put up some excellent bombs and did a huge amount of hard slog hit ups off our own line. That's the only opportunity centres get in our games. Ridiculous you criticise him. He got involved wherever he could.
And as for rankings of halves, it's not hard at all:
Hastings
Doueihi
Then anyone else bar Brooks because Brooks is not able to play in the halves. He's just not.
didn't get involved in defence 11 tackles, 5 missed or ineffective

Interesting assessment.

I love Doueihi.
Thought he was a passenger tonight.

Good kicks though.
He's an out and out #6 imo.

Built in excuses..

- played out of position
- returning from injury
- upset

I'm not a fan of excuses. I'm not a fan of the excuses for Brooks or for Hastings or for anyone.

I'm not hard but when I hear people tell me how they couldn't do something because of someone or something else I always think you soft weak pathetic loser.

In life you go out and get stuff done and you cop it on the chin when you stuff up.

Exactly. He did nothing. I don't think people get I'm one of his biggest fans.

I've been one of Seyfarth's biggest fans as well.

I change my assessment based on the data provided to me. When guys play ordinary they are ordinary.

Doueihi did nothing. It was a terrible performance. I'd honestly think about dropping him to reserves and give him time at 6. Let him prove himself there and see if that is his position.

Likewise man.

Underwhelming & disappointing.
Supposed to be a future leader.

You ask me to watch game again, to see his good kicks, i dont have to watch it again, i know what i saw the first time, and ive been watching the same sh-t for over 9yrs already, time to find a player with football ability.

How can you expect brooks to magically counter the fact that we always give the opposition penalties in their own 20/30m area, we literally give them the length of the field with penalties and 6 agains, how can we apply pressure when we consistently put ourselves under pressure?
Our bigs rarely offload even though they have arms free and players to pass to, literally just look at them and fall to the ground.
How can a play maker set plays up when those surrounding him look uninterested?
Yes brooks made some dud plays tonight but the pressure this guy is under constantly is tough.
As a player he has very little talent surrounding him, poor roster management from the hot heads above him, numerous coaches, no consistent strong spine or halves combo, no consistent strong goal kicker to turn try’s into 6 points, constant BS leaks to media,
Poor coaching game structures etc etc.
I do feel brooks needs to move on, but to say he is to blame for our losses is just ignorant.
The issues at our club are far more deeper than blaming Luke brooks.
