Wests Tigers Coaches

Benji Marshall is going all-in for the Wests Tigers, resigning from his high-profile media commitments with Fox Sports and Triple M.

The NRL coach in-waiting has made the tough call to step away from the major NRL broadcasters simply due to the demands involved with helping resurrect the Wests Tigers.

“It’s been born out of wanting to get started now with Tim (Sheens),’’ Marshall confirmed.

“There’s plenty of work to be done as far as planning for next season, how we want to play and what type of roster reflects that style that we want to play.

“No doubt it was a tough call as I have enjoyed my time with both Fox and Triple M thoroughly, but I’ve never been half-hearted about things and I need to focus on the Tigers, so that we’re ready on November 1, not just getting started on November 1.”

Working as a commentator and panelist providing expert opinion, Marshall had developed into a hugely respected voice for both networks.

In turning his focus towards the rebuild of the Tigers, Marshall has also given up his own Monday night show on Fox League.

“Benji’ will be replaced, beginning next Monday night at 7.30pm, with a new one-on-one interview show.

The show will focus on delivering the biggest interviews in the game.

“We’ve loved working with Benji, he’s a superstar of the game and we look forward to continuing to work with him as coach of the Tigers,” Fox Sports executive editor Luke McIlveen said.

“The Tigers are a big club with a rusted-on fan base and his next journey 20 years after leading them to a premiership will be fascinating.

“Our new Monday night show straight after NRL 360 at 7.30pm on Fox League will feature an exclusive interview with the biggest names in the game – beginning with Benji, The Full Story, next Monday.”

Appointed assistant coach to Sheens for the next two seasons before taking over as head coach from 2025, Marshall wasn’t expected to begin working with the Wests Tigers until November 1.

However, Marshall met with Fox League and Triple M executives last Monday to explain why he needed to step away.

“Everyone at Triple M congratulates Benji on his appointment with the Tigers,’’ Triple M Head of Sports Content Ewan Giles said.

“His insight is first-class and he’ll be a tremendous acquisition for the club.

“We wish him all the best.’’

John loved Ringo. Doubt he would have ever said anything negative about him that wasn’t tongue in cheek. Didn’t really care too much for Pete Best though.

Impressive, would have been difficult to step away from the easy money, heres hoping they can all pull off a miracle

Have you seen McCartney though. He could do it all and I think without any training. Play guitar, piano, drums and sing and he could do it better than other people.
Chris Rea was another, he played all instruments on a number of his songs, some weird instruments at that

John loved Ringo. Doubt he would have ever said anything negative about him that wasn’t tongue in cheek. Didn’t really care too much for Pete Best though.
Was well regarded all round I believe - And anyone who doesn't think he's a great Drummer doesn't know their arse from their elbow. His style influenced plenty of great Drummers.

There's a difference between the Drummer a song wants and the Drummer a song needs....

Neil Peart is god though....

So who’s coaching Robbie? Sheens is showing complete disregard for this season. Probably wants to keep his 49% winning record in tact
I thought the same at first but I fully understand why he is holding off.
He has so much to arrange prior to Nov 1 with getting Assistant coaches sorted, Player retention, Signing players and also preparing for Benji.
I see Benji has also resigned from all his media commitments today so if anyone doubts his commitment they are kidding themselves. You don't give up a high paying media job for coaching unless you are 100% committed.

Full respect to Benji and his commitment..
There is not many guys out there that would walk away from a high paying media job to take this on as its a 24/07 job..
What pleases me the most is he is doing it now so they are prepared at Nov 1 instead of starting then and taking months to prepare..
IMO I think this might end up been a magical signing and start of our success.. Finger crossed

The massive Madge lover, P K nt. Absolute waste of space death ridding the club. You’d swear Pascoe must of slept with his misses?!?
After all the crap he has dug up on us over the last few years, he then cry’s about spending $50 to stand in the hill. Man has an axe to grind!!!
Like many have said, The Tigers rate for some reason so I don’t see it as hating on us, more delivering content that will help ratings. We’re kind of a big thing….apparently.

Tallis hasn’t much time for most coaches. I’ve been to a couple of events with Tallis involved as a guest speaker and he also has little time for Wayne Bennett either.
I know Gordie through some promotional work he does with my employer and I can tell you Gordie does have plenty of time for a beer.

I hope this report is enough for all the keyboard coaches to drop off and give the guys a chance
no chance, misery loves company.
I was as shocked as many regarding the news, but surely we cant do any worse than the last 15 years or so. The new building in concord should also assist in getting this team back to a top 8 side, willing to see how Benji goes as a coach, if he surrounds himself with good smart footy people then his main job will be the man management which i think he will excel at
