Manly Inclusive Pride jersey backlash

It's supporting a minority group who cop it in society. It's getting better but it's far from good enough.

The evidence is pretty clear - just look at anyone who is arguing against wearing a jersey celebrating this minority group.

I love the woke comments as well. It's interesting how this doesn't apply to the indigenous round.
It has already been explained to you why we have an indigenous round.

I’m all for the boycott. If you want to be gay or bi or whatever then go for it. I can’t see how having an opinion against these notions has been taken away. Freedom of speech is now thst these groups can say or do what they like which I agree with. But you would be absolutely slammed and shut down if you have an opinion that is opposite. I think it’s disgraceful.

Spent their childhoods drawing pictures of stick figures underneath a rainbow
- Now they have a problem with Rainbows...

None of them have a problem with jamming their believes
(post game prayer, Bible quotes, lord and saviour down everyone elses' throats - every opportunity they get) with zero consideration for anyone else's believes.
Show me when any of those Manly players preached in your face, or anyone else's. You either accept a right to object on religious grounds, or you don't.

No it hasn't. It hasn't been explained at all.

I like Indigenous round and I also think we should support a minority group who cop it in society. The whiners are proof of how tough they have it.

You don't have a good argument other than you are a bigot.

Older gay people can remember what it was like to be on the outer of society. Now being unaccepting of those now on the outer is arguably hypocritical. If using power to get your way is acceptable, then it's a might is right argument on a moral level.

This might be considered a dangerous idea, but both the players and the club can be within their rights in this instance at the same time. I wouldn't boycott the jumper but I respect the rights of others to do so.

I don't accept it as anything other than being a bigot. Religion is not an excuse for poor behavior.

Is religious terrorism cool ? If you say no then you don't have an argument.

When two young Morman lads knocked on my door one morning I asked them in for a beer which they politely knocked back....now that's conviction.
Lol, a former flatmate had a religious older guy knock on the door preaching the bible, but he had his young adult daughter with him who couldn't hide her voluptuousness under a thick jumper. My flatmate said he felt he was going to go to hell for what he was thinking.

This is a more intelligent argument but the problem as a society we have to and we do condone various actions. We do this all the time.

It's about progress as a society.

Not wearing a jumper = terrorism. Wow. Unless you can demonstrate that their boycott somehow materially hurts LGBTI people, then your bigot argument is nothing but a slur.

Far enough, but it's a dangerous road. We had the same debate over the morality of allowing or disallowing communist parties to run in a democracy, which they clearly didn't believe in. At what point do we draw the line? It's an age old dilemma.

Speaking of which, Geoffrey Robertson is coming to town.

I can prove it easily. It shows that certain sections of society still hold them in contempt. If they didn't care they would wear the jersey with pride.

They are not asking them to be homosexual for the day. They are stating we support a minority group who have had it tough in society.

In this instance because they are gay these players (and there are a lot of them) are stating being gay is so abhorrent to us we will not even wear a jersey supporting gay people's rights in society.

Bigot is not a slur. It's the facts of the situation.

I'll add it's so weak to hide behind religion or wokeness or whatever.

I was thinking of Geoffrey Robertson having this discussion.

To me this issue is real simple though. It's simply about showing support for a maligned section of society.

If the players were asked to have a gay romp with each other I could understand not doing it but this is nothing like that.

Contempt is an assumption. They are devout so take the bible strictly at its word, that it is wrong. That doesn't mean they are contemptuous. No doubt they believe gay people can be "saved" which is offensive to gay people who believe they are doing nothing wrong, to which I concur.

As for bigot, you might be right, but they could also consider you bigoted for being anti-christian, which again is an assumption.

And I agree with you on that, but I don't think it overrides religious beliefs or convictions. The proof of this principle is whether people apply the same principle to different religions. Christianity, Judaism and Islam all have their haters as well as all other religions. Certain politicians fail this simple test.

I bet none of these players who pulled out would knock back attractive lesbians who turned up on there door
Of course they would.

They wouldn’t have to worry about ever being classed as unfaithful either, as being good Christians, they surely don't have sex outside of marriage, or even prior for that matter.

This club is a disgrace to society, They all know about upcoming feature rounds within their club ,and to say the players were surprised and decided to pull out is just ANNESLEY in repeat. BEYOND POOR . This action from these morons could trigger other morons not to turn up in protest. A small crowd will now be disappointing , but I’m hoping it’s a sellout . If these guys don’t like the game or movement, they should find a suitable competition where they can play their eyes out.
As long as you think this is right.

The club should donate a corporate box to a gay pride, media or mardi gras organising group and then tell the players that have stood down, that they will be working corporate engagement.

A win over the roosters puts them in the 8. A loss likely drops them to 11th or 12th. For and against may also take a hiding. Sure these players will be popular with supporters when Manly just miss the 8
