Let’s be realistic

@teddy23 hit the nail on the head - our roster this season was always going to finish around the bottom of the ladder.

As much as I love the club and will stick by it, I know that most of the blokes that pull on the jumper every week were not wanted by their previous club, and were let go so their club could spend the money on a junior that was on the way up.

If we're going to be a competitive club in the future, you need to look beyond next season and perhaps even the season beyond that.

Is the club doing enough to ensure we have a big pool of 17 year olds, in the hope that a few will be good first graders in 2024-2025?

A centre of excellence alone won't do this, we need a big effort from the club, with many people involved so we can finally develop some genuine talent that's on the way up rather than signing has-beens who are on the way down.
Absolutely beautiful 🤩

It's funny because I think the club got Sheens back because they've been unable to own their problems, get to root cause of them and deliver a plan to fix them.
The bad thing about it is it's upended all sense of stability and created some short-term setbacks. The good thing though is he doesn't really sugarcoat our problems.

My main complaints about the Madge sacking - aside that it should've been done last year and not when it did occur, is Kimmorley should not have been brought in as the interim coach and the declaration this year is a basic write off is a little discouraging or disheartening.

I don't disagree with you as we have to recruit a lot better but neither of the blokes you mention will be playing in the semis either.

Yeah but Newcastle's woes are not linked to the likes of Frizell and Klemmer.

A ridiculously overpaid marquee fullback who is not delivering on the promise and easily injured, lack of quality halves and average outside backs.

Frizell and Klem both have good go forward, have an offload and pretty dependable defenders.

They are far and away better than anything we have.

IMHO, the NRL organisation should not be anyone's benchmark, as they (ATM) present extremely low standard, they could not run properly even under 10's lemonade sell!
Our benchmark should be the NBA, NFL, NHL, Premier League or as the team the Storm, Golden State Warriors or San Antonio Spurs.
😂 it’s still better than looking like a Cup side.
I think the new CoE facilities will help improve standards.
I like what Pascoe said.."We're not silly enough to think that just because we're going into a world-class facility that that automatically defines a change in results," Pascoe said.

I wondered about the declaration that the last 12 rounds were a write off. The first thought was that it was designed to take pressure off everyone. However, it buys time, similar to the concept of not seeing results for 3 years.

What is the problem ? The problem is we don't have a top 8 roster !
The 2nd problem is we find it difficult to attract top tier players!
The 3rd problem is that the 2nd problem is directly related to perception and that is we are perceived as a disjointed club that doesn't represent any particular area . I don't think having a nice training facility is going to make a huge difference in that perception . We must become ONEclub in all grades and have One home ground .
However if we could somehow land a few more top tier signings we could get what's seen as a critical mass of talent and a talented pool attracts more talent . When prospects view the roster and see it as a probable finals bound squad then many things will start going our way
Improve the roster win majority of games and we will have great momentum

Since when has this club ever handled something without completely butchering it? They could have even tapped Madge on the shoulder and said you have until the end of the year and you will be released, paid out & you can control the narrative in regard to your finishing up.

Sheens also should have immediately assumed responsibility this year. Probably doesn't want the stink of this year attributed to him and thrown Noddy under the bus instead.

9th, 11th 13th and now 16tb .that's conclusive evidence that the club is run terribly .
-continual poor roster and even when we sign players that were good performers at their previous clubs they turn out to be a big let down when they come here and quickly fall out of favour and spend more time on bench or Reggie's than nrl .Many examples Reynolds Gildardt, Peachy are just a few
Now these were not dumb signings at the time but what happens when they get here ? Is it coaching ? Is it motivation ? Whatever things have to change dramatically if Tim and Pascoe have some 5 year plan to get to finals im sorry can't take much more mediocre performance
The fans expect and deserve Wests Tigers a top 8 team in 2023 nothing less will satisfy .You need a couple of top tier recruits

What are your arguments about the mess that Madge created?

Going by the number pattern, I’ll take 15th please. Thank you

These are a few -

There is the roster.
We've seen more second phase play and expansive football (prior to Hastings injury while he was 13) than we've seen in 3.5 years.
Our players appear to have been removed from the harness that held them back from playing their natural football and football which is consistent with WTs' DNA.
Our hooker, the halves and our fullback have the freedom to follow their instincts on the field.
These improvement we have seen must have an impact on the perception of the club and have a positive flow on to recruiting, sponsorship etc.

We know also from Sheens' comments that he rates Brooks and made mention that Maguire's style of football frustrated Brooks.

You live in fantasy world if you think sheens will turn this around.
He’s already thrown Noddy under the bus
Club has.
Hasn’t it been mentioned that Sheens name is etched into the desk of the coaches office at the soon to be opened COE. Um where’s Noddy gunna sit?
Is this another Gus Gould / Laurie Daley moment?

We've won a single game (with an asterisk on a potential second) since Madge left.
As much as he had clearly done his dash with us, to think that he was the single issue holding the club back is an incredible exaggeration.
To think that the corporate world is looking on at our club in any different light is laughable.

It was the way we won the Bronco's game, played against Nth Qld and also the Eels. We exposed the right hand defences of three top 8 sides through players using their instincts, second phase play and expansive football. This was a significant departure from the Maguire years most noticeably the use of Hastings at 13.

I don't recall writing that Maguire was the "single issue holding the club back" therefore I agree it is an incredible exaggeration but not of my writing!

We have many sponsors, including Brydens and the homepage of the WTs includes a corporate engagement page. Obviously the club believes there is corporate interest in backing WTs and playing a more attractive style of footy and winning a few games assists.

Coincided with the return of AD.

Three of the teams we have played twice with the two coaches are 3/0 to Maguire - Parramatta, Bulldogs, and South's. If we measure success by winning the whole arguement that one style of footy is more successful than the other based on this year's results with this squad, doesn't gel. The few wins we have achieved have been built on the back of commitment on the day, and some leadership on the field.

But but we are looking more attractive when we are loosing. Surely that’s got to count for something!
