Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

He is playing big minutes at the moment when we have so many that can do that job. I would put 5kg on him and play him in shorter more explosive bursts. He makes around 150m a game playing 60-70 minutes. I think he can make that same 150m in 40 minutes, therefore providing much more impact.
He would be massive under this regime.
How much are we willing to pay ?

Sounds like Sheens wants some money to spend in 2024 also to ensure we keep all upcoming young guns..

I can't see him breaking the bank to keep Joffa and by @THE_POM 's update - he has other offers on the table. Also mentioned Joffa has knocked back our initial offer but isn't being too unreasonable with prices.

End of the day, we need some forwards. We're losing a lot and haven't made any signings (other than the re signings, Apia and maybe Papaliii)

I'm trusting the process.
Expectations are low.

Sua should be approached. I wonder what Tim could do with sgi Laurie?

He seems to have some factory ability and robustness and we could pick him up cheaply.

But more so, ld like to see more bodies in motion next year and try a few different things. Offloading and second phase.

I hope he can break through with Muz as well.

All retained players can hit the exercise bikes during the holiday. 50 kms a day for a start.

If what the Pom says is correct, then he is asking for market value to stay. That's a win IMO. He is about to hit the best years of his career

Absolutely agree about Sua. Joffa with 5kg, shorter bursts, Sua and Paps in the backrow, Stef fit.....that's a top 8 pack.

I doubt we'd get better than him, on the market.
Unless some off season shuffling causes some one to become available.

I'd like to keep him but I wouldn't be breaking the bank for him either.

Now latest story Dogs seriously want Munster
So the maths doesn't add
They bought AddoCarr,Burton ,Tevita Pangai, Burns Stimson
Vaughan plus Kikau, Mahoney ,Sutton and now Munster ?
We lost Mikhalae,Luciano,Kelma,Garner and add back Api and Papalii

Can all this add up to the same cap?

Weve recruited NO ONE since the coaching change
Is that because we are the "Pariah" club?

Funny place this forum.

We have a forward who has Rep quality and is 26yrs old, made the most tackle breaks (50) & meters per game (124) of his career whilst increasing his tackle count by 30% (900+) on any other season he has played for a team who have often given up but then go meh we don’t need him.

We are rebuilding, youth needs experienced heads around them - the right ones.

Joe has shown this year he is the right one. The guy has had a dig all year leading the way when others just gave up. He didn’t take the easy option out and has often had zero support.

We won’t find better quality /age-experience than Joe to compliment Api/Papa next year.

From the sounds of it, his asking price won’t break the bank and is fair.

But hey we have Twal and Seyfarth so all good right & some wonder why we keep losing….
Good call pay the man he has earn't it on this year alone

If it’s between Sua and TPJ both seem to want out

TPJ in a poor team just doesn't deliver. I was all for getting him from the Broncos but he has made very little impression at the Bulldogs. Might be a project for Bennett. Can't see what value he would offer for us. The red flags are flying for all to see.

Many years ago we offered Bellamy the keys to the Tiger kingdom but baulked when he said he wanted total control.
Same with Bennett, too much control the board said …..,
I think you’ll find that when he leaves Storm that will be it in a coaching role.
Maybe GM of football but not as coach,
That was never the case with Bennett.
You need to do some more background study.

Gus and the dogs recruiting like crazy and the roosters can recruit any and all they want .However the Storm in last few years seem to have a knack of finding unknowns ,run of the mill players and juniors from whatever cup comp and turning them into stars . I know Bellamy is a great coach but it can't be all on him .I think its the whole system .Scouts, induction staff, fitness trainers , medical and rehab .Its the whole package .
We probably don't scout as we just pick from our cup, flegg etc,
We seem to have squad who run out of gas after 50 min .How fit are we?
We seem to take forever to rehab some players
So my point is that to be attractive it involves all of the above not just who is the coach and of course winning?
With our existing roster winning won't be frequent .MUST RECRUIT

In all serious, @TSP

If Lawrie and Sua want out...
& there's truth behind Sua's manager offering him to the Tigers -

They meet a need we're currently needing.
I'd take both.

Lawrie, 350k?
Sua, 450k ?

2 year deals with CO for a third.
Let's go.
Yup, there’s often some seriousness afoot on our sacred game day.

We gotta clean up these player contracts as well, especially this “ x must be the coach” business.

Same as this “ I must play half” hurrah.

Definitely know about Bellamy and that was my understanding of the Bennett situation but happy if you can fill me in on your info. as to why he knocked us back.
Yep you are right about Bellamy episode.
On the other hand Bennet story goes like this.

In the middle of 2018, with the Broncos administration throwing shade all over their most successful coach, the Tigers were back in Sydney not sure if their coach Ivan Cleary was going to be on or off the bus.

Cleary had a contract for both the 2019 and 2020 seasons.

But by October, 2018, Cleary was up and gone — returning to Penrith and hitching himself to a five-year deal and the opportunity to coach his son, Nathan.

To say the Tigers — in surprising contrast to how they’ve operated so many times before — were caught short and left to madly scroll the internet for a list of off-contract coaches is wrong.

They had a plan.

Wayne Bennett was its name.

Not long after the whispers about Cleary returning to the Panthers began to develop into the sound of crashing cymbals, Tigers CEO Justin Pascoe took a flight to the Sunshine Coast to meet Bennett.

Wanting to keep the meeting out of public view, Pascoe took the unusual step of hiring a hotel room at the Novotel Twin Waters for the 90-minute meeting.

Pascoe picked up his key for Room 243 and the pair laughed as they opened the door for their first face-to-face meeting inside the quaint hotel room.

They hit it off.

The old fox and one of the game’s new breed didn’t let their difference in age, or experience get in the way of a good laugh and a plan for Bennett to take over at Concord.

So comfortable was Bennett in Pascoe’s pitch, he approved the financial terms that the Tigers were proposing.

But then came the sticking point — and essentially the deal-breaker, which led the Tigers to then ramp up their pursuit of Maguire, who they had also circled.

Reading the tea leaves that Cleary was certain to seek a release from his contract at the end of 2018, the Tigers told Bennett they would need him to begin as head coach for the following season, in 2019.

The problem was, Bennett had a contract with the Broncos until the end of 2020.

He simply wasn’t willing to break that Brisbane deal and walk away from his players to join the Tigers in 2019.

The Tigers only needed to wait two months and they would have had Bennett.

What we all know is, Bennett was eventually sacked in December, 2018 — two months after Cleary walked — so that the Broncos could bring in Anthony Seibold.

Those two months cost the Tigers the signature of Bennett.

When Cleary walked, the Tigers were in a hurry to appease fans and sponsors with the style of leadership that shows a clear direction.

With that intent, the Tigers weren’t prepared to play the waiting game for Bennett which revolved around the timeline of a bumbling Broncos board.

From the departure of Cleary in October and with Bennett unable to sign, Pascoe went after Maguire.

Bennett has rarely spoken about how close he came to joining the Tigers.

However, he revealed just how close he was with this short grab last year, when denying reports that he had shaken hands with Phil Gould to coach Penrith instead of taking over at Souths in 2020.

“The truth is this; the only team that I ever talked to was the Wests Tigers,‘’ Bennett said.

“There was a three-year deal with them on offer and I would have done the deal with the Tigers if the Broncos were upfront with me and told me they were going to sack me for 2019.
“I gave my word I was staying at the Broncos and I intended to honour my final 12 months, so that’s why I knocked back the Tigers.‘’

Excellent response. Thank you for clarifying that. Maybe a pity the balls weren’t in alignment as Bennett would have been a coup,
If Pascoe could hit it off with Bennett then maybe he’s not as bad as we think, or was that his moment in the sun.
Go Tigers !

you don't break the bank for a player like Joffa that is what puts us under cap pressure.
we need to th throw big dollars at quality, joffa is very good but not worth throwing money at in a bidding war with melbourne over
You do realise we'd be paying 100k more than what Melbourne would offer. Players need more money to play for us

In any case paying Joffa 500k is fine. Hes a leader and makes his tackles and busts his ass, a decent role model moving forwards
