Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

1. Will never happen
2. No club does that -every club changes them every few years as a money making exercise.
3. We are already doing this a lot
4.Supposedly this is happening, but realistically we don't even have a game-plan at nrl level so of course the coaches at lower levels are adapting a game-plan to suit their players.
5. There is one NSW Cup team. Branded as Magpies but many NRL clubs use other club's brands at that level (Newtown, North Sydney, Blacktown, Mounties etc.)

So really we've already done most of what you say.
1. It should…not speculating as to if it will. That’s up to the club. There is support from the fan base though. It’s been 22 years since Wests and Balmain merged. Anyone under 27 or 28 would have little to no recollection of those clubs and plenty of the old heads are seeing it that way too…it’s the club that is holding onto to this 79 home grounds each year mess.

2. St George and Souths don’t change their jerseys. Penrith have gone back to their 90’s strip, with a non-traditional away strip. Parra have been pretty consistent. Bulldogs? Roosters? Manly?

3. Yes we are…just need to get it right. A good start.

4. Hopefully we get it right…it will make a huge difference to the future of the club.

5. Who are the Magpies? Who are Balmain? We had a WT cup team at one point…why was it changed? We should have one identity from the ground up. I realise there will be different opinions on this…just my 2 cents on the matter and I think many agree.

When Mick Potter arrived and described the club as different to any other and is a political hotbed. There is your answer . Signings are affected by perception right or wrong perception is everything
And perception can be changed , by just accepting our inability to recruit stats and focusing on ‘development’ we are only adding fuel to the fire. Nobody wants to play for Worsts Tigers.

In relation to this point expecting anything but another couple of seasons of poor performance is unrealistic but you never know. 2005 was a season we were picked for the wooden spoon like next season. We don't have the talent like Benji, Prince, Robbie and Hodgo in the spine for next season but we might outperform last place.

It's not exactly encouraging but we did cop it with injuries this season big time.
I dont recall anyone picking us for the spoon in 2005. We finished 2004 one win away from the top 8. Prince was in his 2nd year at the club, Benji (and a few others) was finding his feet in first grade after debuting a couple of seasons earlier. Sure we were a long way off premiership favorites but nor were we tipped for the spoon.
Facilities are important in the modern game and for the modern player.

Imagine going to work as an employee and your employer has run down offices, lack of equipment to do the job and low grade resources in general?

Now, go up the road and another company has top class facilities with everything you need to help you succeed.

Now, is 10kg, really 10kg? I.e is an office, really an office because it has 4 walls? Of course not…the standards between the two are vastly different.

Not everyone, but I would guess more than 70% of the players in the NRL would pick the club with better facilities with all other things being equal.

Certainly, the COE shouldn’t be relied upon to attract talent as there are many factors that go into ones decision to sign, but to say it has no impact in a players decision is like saying there’s no point in Mercedes making luxury cars, because the Suzuki Swift has 4 wheels and gets you from A to B.

Of all the factors that players consider when signing for a club, having the COE removes the facilities consideration…one less obstacle to signing better talent.

As a club, we simply don’t get the basics right. In no particular order, we need:

1. One home ground
2. Pick a home and away jersey. Stop changing it!
3. Pathways investment
4. Consistent game plan philosophy through all grades. If a rookie gets thrown in, he’s familiar with our style of play!
5. A Wests Tigers NSW cup team…none of this Balmain or Magpies split.

If we start there, we will have taken a big step up from where we are today.
I agree with a lot of what you have said but fail to see how points 1, 2 and 5 matter at all whilst 3 and 4 would undoubtedly help in player development I don't see how it would help attract a potential recruit.

With David Fifita on 1.2M (apparently), would he be worth Tim asking (Titan's management) the question about? I think us at 800K, with Titans chucking in 400K, might work for both parties. Frees up 800K for them and we get a gun. I think that the 800K we would be paying would be slight overs, but it's be a handy 2RF pairing (him and Ice).

Doubt it.
