Leichhardt oval's end

You may live in the West (with 2 AFL teams & one major stadiurm) but your notion of relative geography in the Sydney basin is appalingly woeful!

To compare any Sydney team with the Cowboys in Townsville - with their closest major competitor or stadium 1,300 km away....

If you really had a point to make - you could find a better example!!

Perth numbats....
It was demonstrated again and again (NZ, Newcastle and GC), that one town team option does not necessary guarantee any success! They can still be mediocre, and receive the spoon year after year, regardless of millions and good will invested!

The Wests Tigers are bankrolled by Wests Ashfield, the COE is in Concord and Balmain has a strong junior system, so I can't see the club moving out of the area anytime soon. We could shift our Leichhardt games to the SFS if Uncle Nick obliges. Though it is a public asset, the roosters of course should decide who plays there.
Why would the rorters have the right to say who plays there, and as you stated it is a public stadium, it should be shared, and the obvious one to share it with would be souths, redfern oval is a lot worse than leichhardt oval, and it is only about 4 or 5 kl from each other.
I think you may have missed the sarcasm there @Dennisspicer1

I just don't get multiple grounds. If the cowboys played one game a year at 1300 smiles you'd think they've gone mad. It's nonsense.
Because:

We need to play at CS to appease the old Maggie’s.

We need to play at LO to appease the old Balmain boys

We need to play at ANZ to inject some cash flow.

We need to play at Tamworth to grow the game in regional areas and appease the NRL.

If we just focus on small obtainable goals we won’t need to worry about creating a brand identity that has a vision for its future and focused on its primary objectives.

(Sarcasm obviously)

I'm glad you said it was sarcasm because I'm afraid a few fans and obviously the club thinks exactly this way.

If you are really lucky one of the above mentioned may make a quick speech from the safety of a sponsors/board private box in between the stuffing of prawns lobster caviar and hors douvres washed down with copious amounts of alcohol before the carnage commences.Who knows they may have even found a bottle or two of Bazza's Grange he forgot to take with him.
A good time will be had by all except of course for us supporters
Yeah, what’s wrong with subsidised pies, hot dogs and beer for the supporters.
I see the new stadium is lowering beer prices tonight, it’s called creating atmosphere.
Mind you I wouldn’t like to be walking home through Moore Park, could be fiery !

I was told ages ago by someone thats in the know that the eighth wonder would be demolished at the end of the 2023 season.
the land is state govt owned and the money from the sale would be put to better use providing better health faciliteies for the people of greater sydney.
so look at it this way balmain tigers fans youre losing a run down footie ground but you will be providing better health care for yourselves in return and you will find your new balmain leagues club will be up and running in no time at all at all.
a minority of one eyed balmain tigers fans will say this is disgraceful, but the more reasonable thoughtful and understanding balmain tigers fans will quickly realize the medical facilities provided in lieu of a crappy football ground will provide a lot more than you realise today.
plus we will get to play most of our home games at only two grounds the new sydney football stadium and campbelltown.
Are you a Greens councillor?

I get where you are coming from but the reality is someone has to run last - unfortunately this year it's us. There have been some pretty ordinary sides get the spoon recently and i don't recall seeing any of their admin, coaches etc addressing their supporters. And nope i won't be there.
Newcastle have brought in Peter Parr and the Bulldogs Gus. Broncos jetted in Ikin. Front office is where those clubs identified their issues.

Cmon, Surely everyone realises this is Darcy big noting himself and trying to get the government to chip in money to develop the ground. Nothing else. The fact is the ground is in much better condition than it was 10 years ago and there is no reason or rationale why it would ever be closed.

It's one of the most used grounds in the country. League, Union and football all regularly play matches here, and it is regarded so highly that high profile international teams use it as a training ground (Brazil, Socceroos, next years womens world cup etc).

I wouldn't complain if money to fund a new grandstand wrapping around the western and northern ends of the ground is developed, but nothing will change if the funding isn't given. And there's also no reason why the Inner West/Leichhardt Council would ever sell one of their best assets.

I wouldn't say it was in better condition, it's collapsing 🤣
BB I assume WT has a lease for the use of LO by the Leichhardt Council??
If they do why doesn't the coucil keep the place safe and in good working order just like a retal agreement.
All these other agencies you mentioned would be in the same boat wouldn't they.
It sounds like the council is raking in the dollars without providing a good safe product.
I'm ignorant of all this BB so just asking. 👍

Leichhardt Oval should be fixed up and become our one and only home ground.
The club should should organise complimenary buses from Wests Ashfield Leagues Club (plenty of) to make getting to and from the ground easier, with the benefit (for WALC) of patronage before and after games. A full LO = 3/4 extra wins a year, IMO.

Well they used to have buses from the LClub to all Sydney grounds, even LO.
Went up to Penrith one day, great camaraderie and would leave about an hour after the game so you could get in a couple of schooners before going home.
Toilet stops were a bit of an issue but a bit of prep with a water bottle, wide mouthed of course, took care of that.

I got a bus from Wests ashfield to Newcastle around 88. Had a great trip

If our grounds won't be rebuilt and I doubt they will then we should move full time to Commbank. Campbelltown is too remote and Leichardt to decrepit. We have Commbank and it's top class facilities. Maybe 1 game a year at Leichardt perhaps v Eels to escape their home ground

You spelt parramatta stadium wrong.

Less then 10k from the COE and not far from Ashfield. How long before squatters rights kick in.
Why did we get out of the Homebush deal?
Does anyone else play out of there?
If we can get it as our own I’d be in. Drop the wests and become the Sydney Tigers. Before people get upset I was a magpie.
I'm not upset at all, Buttface, as I respect your opinion. On the flip side I was a Balmain supporter since as long as I remember, but I have grown really fond of being the Wests Tigers and would not like to lose the Wests title. Go figure eh.

most boys and girls leave home eventually and then go on to bigger and better things
get used to no leichhardt oval or as it is leichhardt rectangle in 24.
Yep, and when most kids move out for the first time they live generally live in a run down slum. That being said I am guessing that you suggest Campbelltown?

Campbelltown is the only viable option at present
If only Campbelltown could get crowds than that would be the solution. But if LO is at its end after next year it’ll just mean Tigers will have to sign on again with another big stadium as moving out to Campbelltown is still a long way off. Probably should go back to Homebush. I know Parra’s have better facilities but its a curse for us. Only time we should play there is against Eels when we are the away team.
