Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Brooks go to a top 8 team you deserve it not knights.

We've probably backed ourselves into a corner letting Madden go, we simply cant afford to let Brooks go now unfortunately. I reckon Brooks will stay take his over inflated salary next year and be on his way. I dont think he stays and extends his deal ala Lawrence, just my opinion though.
I dont know if Madden was the answer but a lot hinges on Hastings if he plays at lock both Madden and Brooks look better, arguably Madden was better bang for your buck assuming Hastings is around.

Ok this might go down like a bag of cement for some but if, and a big IF, Papaali wants out of the contract, I'd be supportive if the Club can win out of it.

What I mean is that the club he goes to or stays at (let's say the Warriors or Eels as mentioned) provide an outcome better than IP coming.

Eels - Shaun Lane + Will Penisini for 2022 onwards (both off contract 2023)
Warriors - Josh Curran on lower contract than IP (I reckon he will be better than IP and has the type of attitude we need). Then we use the $$$ we save to land another experienced backrower John Bateman or Tyson Frizell.

The only way out that will be acceptable is if Wests Tigers win out of the deal otherwise the club will be crucified.

In much bigger sports than rugby league , trades & player movements happen immediately . They move states & countries in a heartbeat .

What’s BS is signing players 12 months in advance . Ipap needs a year to go from Parramatta to Concord . Lol .

If players don’t like professional sports go get a job in a factory .

We should implement a trade window during the Origin period. All off-contract players do the deals during that period. Deals cannot be made outside of that period. Only can sign contracts if player is off contract at the end of that year.

I do agree in principle.

However as soon as you slightly entertain a deal it weakens your bargaining position.

Gotta stick to your guns. Play for us or sit out for 3 years.

Brooks is welcomed out the door, any day, anytime

The club never wins when someone wants out, make him honor his contract, if he plays like shit , drop him to KOE, just don’t roll over again or someone else will try this caper

Yeah mate I play centre but can also cover wing and I know if the ball hasn’t traveled 10 meters on a kick off not to touch it do I get the job?
Justin Pascoe - "WT are pleased to announce the signing of @finnzo on a 3yr deal. The lad will bring plenty of experience and knowledge to the club and i'm sure that he won't touch the ball like our dumbass centres did to cost us the game. Tim Sheens and I are looking forward to working with him in the coming years.

Rubbish.
The contrary; we cannot afford to keep him.

It’s like saying Jimmy the Jet is gone we can’t afford to let Talau go now.

I don't care who we let go. Hastings is the no 1 guy I'd like to keep but he ain't the Turd. If we can survive that we can survive any of our current players going.

I have no problems with Brooks but it needs to be a decent contract for us. I thought Doueihi was the guy to lead us going forward but he was worse than Brooks this season.

We need to get our cap right and build around quality juniors coming through.

Joe O was our best player by far and he isn't a rampaging prop that is irreplacable. I'm glad we kept him though.

We looking forward to Finnzo brining his basic knowledge of the rules to the club it’s an area the club has identified needs looking at and this is our first step towards fixing it

100% agree in alot of other sports its easy.
It’s also alot easier when a player wants the move.

Same as alot of sports have drafts as well.

Rugby league is just a red tape sport which is why a trade is actually difficult.

Let’s face it if you’re a good player who would actively want to move to the Tigers unless it didn’t involve commercial terms being very favorable for them especially when there are a fair few clubs now with cash for next 2yrs available in Sydney area
True but rugby league is a pretty small fish when it comes to professional sport worldwide. As Vlad stated in "true" professional sports the player rarely gets a say. All the trading is done by the clubs and the player is told when and where he is to report for his next "job".

Whilst small fish we can say why this and why not, the reality is Rugby League is it's own beast.

Rugby League is also a true professional sport.

In the big sports star players absolutely get a say infact most often they provide a preference on the team they join or force to be traded, the non stars however don't get a say and just get traded.
If the team they want to be traded for doesn't have the goods then the teams don't move said player. Happens a heap in the NBA.

NBA however also have a draft which enables it easier for trades as you can trade for future & $$$ as well as players to meet the budget/roster needs.

Football however its a buyers market so trades don't really happen as it's a cash play which includes teams getting cash and royalties over time (some bake in performance metrics, if player a gets promoted to EPL they get a cash windfall within x years)

Trading of players between teams actually isn't that common in most sports.

That logic seems fairly sound, that is until you consider that we let a coach go and the best indication was that we had another one lined up to come in and take his place.
That's assuming they're linked. Far be it for me to put my slant on matters but Maguire had to go. Ideally it would have been good to have a replacement in place but it wasn't mandatory. The club had put in a framework with Sheens above him to manage the situation. The club cops a lot of criticism, but I don't believe it is warranted in this case.
